About 40 years ago, British Caledonian operated Edinburgh-Copenhagen and Glasgow-Stockholm (or it might have been the other way round), in both cases via Newcastle, using the BAC 1-11.
The timings were such that passengers could change flights at Newcastle, so BCal effectively ran flights to both Scandinavian capitals from both of Scotland's major cities.

A big drop in QR figures from October (>7K) to November (5.7K) - was there a capacity or frequency cut ?

oooft that aint good. These ME routes don't tend to have significant season fluctuations except the May/June dip, so the change from a historically summer month to November I dont think tells that much. This route should be high 80's by now after almost 8 months of ops as are the other QR routes that started around the same time. Think the only outright cancellation was this month after the lightening strike of a 787. There were persistent delays last month but that shouldnt affect the calculated load, although some will be going back to AMS and LHR as their transit if the delays with QR and EDI security are to continue.

Uh oh, despite the potential negative effects on NCL... I do wish QR the best of luck from EDI... Although after 8 months of EK serving NCL (un-arguably a much smaller/poorer market, albeit on a higher frequency but about the same size aircraft) they had 12,525 pax for April 08. Even our first November, only the third month, had 11,191 passengers :/
I do wish QR and EY the best of luck at EDI, but I think by this time next year unless QR about doubles each months figures, 2016 will be a matter of one or the other. I'm sure it will pick up...

'10-millionth pax' expected today
EDI to hit the magic 10 million pax in a calendar year target today:
BBC News - Edinburgh Airport set for 10 millionth passenger in 2014
Also, new TOM flights to Cyprus and Gran Canaria mentioned for winter 15/16. Anyone know whether Larnaca or Paphos? Hopefully Larnaca since Easyjet already offers Paphos.

Any idea when the change takes place? I'm off to Paris in June, and would like to get on an RJ85 while they're still flying. Looks like I might have to fly from Newcastle instead

Ups and downs I suppose given the route was down 2% in September. With all this apparent 'impressive' growth perhaps yields explain the reduced frequency low cost offshoot service.
