They were very clear in their announcement last week of the new agreement with Luton that capacity will increase by 20% over the next year comprising new routes & increased frequencies on some existing routes so can only assume these new routes are part of that plan

Last airline to offer Copenhagen from Luton was Debonair?

Both CPH & LYS are indeed dropped at STN in favour of LTN . Great news to see new routes being added by easyJet & obviously these will be just the first in light of the growth commitments at LTN.
They made the same commitment to Stansted

The agreement with STN was only a framework, LTN is a commitment I believe.

Assuming LBC can get the investment promised out of the AENA consortium to commence expansion. Might be a clever ploy by easyJet to play Satansted and Luton against each other development wise?

The deal between easyJet and the airport raises the stakes for the Secretary of State. It now looks harder for the Government to be seen to deny a project that has the commitment of the UK's largest airline and which will bring significant economic benefits.

Buster you are right, there hasn't been a service to Copenhagen since Debonair, so it's been a LONG time. It's a route which I think will fit well into easyJet's Luton operation.

I wonder if, when further new routes are added they'll also be routes switched from the current Stansted operation? If so, Asturias, Bilbao, Cagliari, Dubrovnik & Munich would all be good.

I think that Ryanair's domination of Stansted and the fact the Luton has a better catchment mean it will be favoured by Easy- Stansted has a problem in that it needs to reduce the dominant position of RYR to tempt more airlines in.

Travelled Luton to Barcelona and back last week- overall not a bad experience - even for a 7.50 departure the airport wasn't really overcrowded though it was rather Wizzville. Security Okay. Arriving at the airport a bit dismal though- any one know if the long corridor to immigration is constructed in a way to encourage flaking paint or whether they just haven't painted it for ages- and couldn't the walls be brightened up either by advertisements or artwork?

El Al

Tomorrow nothing inbound (thus full) and 3 outbound on booking engine. I bet they could do 5 a day if they had the capacity?

Every April and September we have the same thing. There is a period of a few days of intense activity from El Al sending B777s, followed by a return to normal.

There will be another peak beginning about 23-Sep-14, a complete absence on 04-Oct-14, and then another peak 02-Apr-15
There will also be a smaller peak around 02-Jun-14

Dates each year vary slightly, but an appearance of a El Al B777 for a few days happens in April every year

I guess one of the major attractions of using Luton for El-Al is their ability to ramp up their schedule at certain times of the year to reflect demand. They couldn't easily do that with just a LHR operation. With Luton they have the flexibility to drop in extra flights on a range of plane types that enables them to fulfil that demand.

I see Monarch have now gone up to 2 x A321's & 2 A320's at Luton. When does the 3rd A320 join the fleet?

Presume Thomson's fleet increases from early May?

Rumour has it that Monarch will actually be closer to six LTN based aircraft later this summer (the aircraft do some 'W' patterns). Frequencies are being increased and new routes of Antalya and Naples are being added.
