Steelwork is being added this week to the bus station infill. Too early to say if this is the final push to complete it or just a section going in.

Well that's not a recent image since the AtlasGlb there hasn't been at LTN since last October... but yes there's a fair few, maybe 1 in 3 movements as a rough average.

June and early July has always been a busy month for biz jets. Come the end of July they normally drop off until September.

Around 100 movements a day, would be more if they had space and not slot restrictions at times.

From a planning application in March until full planning permission approval only took 3 months which is remarkable for a £200 million project. I guess it helps when the council is giving itself planning permission.

http://www.london-luton.co.uk/blog/j.../wizz-to-luton for video and full article.

The five million passengers WIZZ carried through LLA in 2016 accounted for around a third of all flights from the airport. This year we are expecting to grow by 13%, in 2017, taking us to 6.3 million seats by the end of the year.

Another food outlets has opened in departures. All the additional retail units will be in the new build but there are still a few outlets to open in the original departure lounge. The corridor to the left in the photo will eventually lead to pier B.

Indeed - Newcastle has a dedicated Metro station inside the terminal, it's just off a main road, has loads of parking and it has a large & somewhat undersused terminal that only looks anywhere near busy when the daily Emirates flight comes or goes

But the new rail link will make a big difference for Luton

Especially if the new franchise agreement for the East Midland line specifies 4 non stop trains an hour. Together with the DART link it will be a game changer and make some other London Airports seem more remote from the capital.

LLAOL brought out a paper written by rail consultants with the amendments to the timetable but it is another story whether the actual trains can take the extra capacity. 4 trains an hour would spread out some of the issues but many passengers would continue to use Thameslink as it connects directly to so many stations. Stopping trains would increase from 7 to 10 an hour in each direction if the extra trains were added meaning a train would call in at the station every 3 minutes on average.

Signature's temporary terminal that has been empty since the beginning of the year has finally been removed from the North West Corner which has become airside again. Two of the portocabins have been relocated to the rear of stand 58 which is a Signature apron next to the Gulfstream hangar.

Gulfstream are rumoured to be considering moving away from Luton after outgrowing hangar 125, as there are no hangars big enough that are available at Luton for their requirements.

Construction update

Work started on Monday on the remaining infill.

The first two entrances are taking shape that will be used to coach passengers to the south apron.

On the ramp side the panoramic windows are being installed. Pier B was meant to be completed 6 months after the terminal was finished but it looks like it will be finished first with a completion date of the end of this year.

In the original animation the airport produced saw this junction put in with only shuttle buses using it to reduce the journey times back to the station. While the access was put in to cross the dual carriageway it has never been opened probably due to safety concerns as the bendy buses would overhang the central reservation.

They already have H2 at STN

Do Signature still own H125?

I could be wrong but I think it is leased. There was talk about doing a hangar swap with the Signatures new hangar fronting the cargo apron but I heard it was found to be unsuitable.

Stansted would be a natural alternative as Gulfstream moved to Luton from Cambridge so where existing staff live would have to be a consideration. The other option would be to build a purpose built hangar and apron to their specification but finding the land at Luton would be somewhat difficult and that is assuming the airport agreed.

http://www.gulfstream.com/product-su...-centers/luton

The Luton, England, Service Center serves as Gulfstream’s European maintenance hub.

The facility features a hangar, offices and warehouse and is staffed by more than 185 employees. The 75,000-square-feet/6,968-square-meter hangar can accommodate 10 to 12 aircraft supported by a 10,000-square-feet/929-square-meter warehouse stocked with US$40 million in parts. The office space includes six customer meeting rooms and a lounge. Gulfstream Luton is located at London Luton Airport (EGGW).
How long has Gulfstream had a facility at Stansted? It must be an overflow to Luton as it has a Luton phone number

Looking at the new Pier B, it appears that the access to the south side of the east apron will be directly from the stairs with no pre boarding zones. Surely the airport haven't been that short sighted to build a new pier the same way they originally built the old pier and then just spent money changing... or have they?!

Pier B
On the initial plans it stated that there would be four pre boarding zones , presumably all on the north side of the pier. I think that the south side will be for dropping arrivals off only from the south stands and that departing passengers will be bussed from the north side.
That's only a guess though!
