thanks for your post about North Star. I've tried to cut through all the spin and waffle to figure out what it means
noted that there are still dozens of available slots available outside the morning 'peak'
Mystic Buster predicts more announcements soon!

AN12 today
On its way, currently crawling up the west coast of Portugal at 24,000ft with a ground speed reported by FR24 of 100kts which probably isn't accurate as it shouldn't have any headwind. Means it's barely halfway so arrival here may be late. Doesn't show up on planefinder so use FR24 if you want to track its progress. CVK7058/UR-CBG.

Yeah unfortunately it looks like it will arrive during the 2 or 3 hours of heavy rain and wind that are approaching. I decided to work instead, Maybe next time!
Whats all this more Vueling flights then? Speaking of Vueling I never realised they had A321 in their fleet.

Are the south stands now in use for commercial pax movements, or are airframes not flying, just moved there? Image was taken today by a good friend and ex airport employee on his way to Hurn.

You need to look more carefully vintage ATCO. The mid term car park has been extended in preparation for the closure of the part of the car park that is needed for the taxiway extension.
The south stands are at the moment used just for parking and with a new fence sitting in the middle of the access road from the eastern apron the stands can't be accessed without traveling down a taxiway. I think this fence is temporary until a new fence is put back in close to the ring road but I am no certain of that.

I would think the reason so many are parked on the South Stands is to keep as many of the hangar lines free, there is so much maint work TUI, MON & EZY cannot keep up, EZY cannot find a sub-contractor in western Europe, have to send them the Eastern Europe.

The hangar line is also mainly full but not with aircraft in for maintenance but with unrequired aircraft. Remember it is January so demand and schedules are light mid week.
Those south stands will be expanded to 6 stands as part of the airport upgrade.

The airport is tendering for between 7 and 14 airside bendy buses on lease with a capacity of up to 160 passengers each from 21 March 2016 to 20th March 2021. Don't know if this tender is for replacement buses or additional buses.

Development weekly update
The new apron and building continues to grow at Signature.
No activity yet on opening up the compound on Stand 9L while the compound and building site for the new pier is still being fenced.
The windows by the check-in desks have been closed off thus blocking the view together with the area where one of the two new entrances will go.
Work continues on the foundations of the passenger footbridge between the short term car park and the multi story car park.
Work continues on excavations for part of the multistory car park. With the existing exit road passing through what will become the car park work is confined to the former easyjet HQ site.
No work has started yet on either extending the ring road from the south stands or the drop off area.
Four more coach bays are going in across the former bus station making a total of fifteen. A site access route will prevent any more bays going in until the terminal is finished. Also a new passenger route is being created, which is yet to open, to move passengers away from the existing crossing point .
At the moment the old pedestrian crossing remains open but to the left of this photo the tarmac has been marked up for digging out. The fence on the right marks the edge of the terminal extension.
The first excavations occurred yesterday for the new duel carriageway after the car park fence was removed this week.

Thanks for the updates LTNman, always interesting to read your posts.
Rather a specific question but I wondered if anyone here knew the answer. Having looked at the plans it appears that the current staff search/temporary arrivals area will eventually become the domestic baggage belts and arrivals hall. Does anyone know if crew/staff search will still be provided at LTN or whether crews/ramp staff will eventually have to go through the main terminal?

That's a good question as the plans haven't got anything marked up as a staff entrance but there does appear to be 2 x-ray machines and a large object x-ray machine and body scanners in a similar area where the new service road lorry parking area is. On my plan it is marked in dark blue in the old terminal.
At the moment all goods passing airside for the terminal get scanned under the new terminal which is also the main staff entrance and is a real pain to access through many twists and turns and multiple staircases when staff were stopped from walking down the service ramp which is due to disappear anyway.
I don't know if this undercroft staff entrance is closing down but air crew don't use that one anyway as far as I am aware.
