Only a certifiable lunatic would let documentary filmmakers through the doors

they aren't interested in making "good tele" - which these days is an expose and every lunatic they can round up to comment

PS ask for control over the "final cut" and see what they say........

Can anyone help me. I'm flying to Dubai in October in premium economy, but one way this will be a 747. I heard they have been upgrading to a new style premium economy cabin, will this have happened on the 747? many thanks

On the contrary, this turned out to be a nice bit of PR for Heathrow:

No reason why a documentary on BA shouldn't be equally beneficial for the airline.

Whilst I agree that i woul dnot let the 'tellt tubbies' anywhere near something I was working on/in - the PR people these days see it differently.

Did easyJet suffer from that long running series about them? Did it give them a chance to show them being reasonable to the punters? Perhaps they could explain the detail of problems and situations to an audience.

There was also the series Airport that did similar. Personally, I think it will be 'same old - same old' and boring.

ps
Just seen an episode of 'Watermen' about a water provision company in the Midlands. All the staff came out of it well. Showing them being patient with the public and revealing just what kind of stupid things get put down the waste water system and how much it costs. Public 0 - Watermen 1

The recent Airport Live at LHR featured BA well with shots of the paintshop and turnaround. Not sure what you're real concern is here, if it's managed professionally, then BA should be in a win win.

NickBarnes,

All 747s have the old seats. There are plans to begin to refurbish the aircraft with these older seats (the newer 747s that aren't being retired imminently and the non-Thales 777 fleet). However, no dates have been set. They need to start the short haul refresh first!

Therefore, in answer to your question, no - you'll get the old seats.

Come on crewmeal it's not that unbelivable, we are talking about Unite here! I suppose that after quite a few years of either no pay increase or below inflation rises the rank and file might expect a decent rise. All this time the pilots have been getting their special share deals etc.

Interestingly, it's the mix fleet union that have mentioned the 'S' word. They've finally cottoned on to the fact they are being exploited. For instance they have not been included in the company wide pay talks.

A friend in the know has also stated that one of the new cabin crew followed by the series packed it in shortly after filming.

Another outbreak of BASSA-mentalism is unlikely to succeed, the whole point of Mixed Fleet is to keep turnover higher than it was to ensure a better mix of young and enthusiastic over old(er) and well paid. Competitors like Laker and Virgin saw Cabin Crew as easily replaceable, in order to compete BA did have to slash costs.
Unless BA are not holding up their end of the contract, it's misleading to claim they're being exploited, unhappy at the hours and rates one has joined is not the same thing at all.

I've no axe to grind. Info comes from a good friend of Mrs PC, who has worked for several airlines encompassing all iterations. Charter, full service and low cost. She was enthused by the glossy promises of BA mixed fleet but finally chucked in the towel when the reality was she could barely cover her living costs, resorting to borrowing from family at times, had zero work life balance and was on the brink of exhaustion. She now wears orange and earns more, substantially more, is able to enjoy her income and retains a modicum of normal land lubbers health.

But see nothing of the places she flys to.

That is one of the main reasons young people want to fly for BA it's wide route network and opportunity to see a fair amount of the world for free.

There is no ballot for strike action on MF. Unite are polling members on whether they'd be willing to consider strike action.

There's no doubt MF crews are working extremely hard on a tough contract but as a separate bargaining unit their leverage in terms of raising the prospect of strike action with BA is very limited.

LGW - LCA

Hi,
can someone enlighten me as to how BA can offer an inferior in flight service on LGW- LCA as opposed to LHR - LCA? Same airline yet only a 'wrap' served on the LGW flight as opposed to a full tray from LHR! I am really miffed as I wanted to fly from LHR but at the time off booking the outbound was an horrendous night flight so changed to LGW which was an early morning departure. Since booking the LHR has changed at an early afternoon day flight and the LGW to a later afternoon departure meaning we get back to LGW after midnight. Not so bothered about times but how can it be fair that they offer such different meal services on the same 5 hr flight!

I may be wrong but could it have something to do with 767 vs 737/A32x?

No. It's down to different products being provided for what BA perceive to be different markets. At Heathrow, BA is is competing directly against Cyprus Airways who offer a full meal service. At Gatwick BA is competing directly against easyJet and the likes of Monarch who offer a very 'different' service.

Talking about BA catering, I wish BA would offer a normal sandwich (either bread or roll) on qualifying european routes instead of those dreadful wraps. I have spoken to many cabin crew members about this and it seems that the anti-wrap feeling is pretty general.

I have 4 more flights coming up in the next few weeks (with wraps, I suppose).

Does anyone else feel the same way?

But my issue is that their website states that they offer a meal/snack according to the duration of the flight. So if the duration is long enough to justify a full meal from LHR how can they not do so from LGW. They are both band 4 European flights. Isn't there cause to complain here re what they promise to offer?
