with the new Airbus reconfig there will be even less reason to upgrade as the onboard and overall experience is barely different. People continue to pay for it and the avios bunch lap it up, so there is no real incentive to change it. The US carriers, are , surprisingly making excellent changes to their medium haul biz class. Just look at Mint and AA, even on narrowbodies

Does anybody know why a BA A380 has just declared an emergency (A7700) going into Heathrow, only one hour after a Qatar B777 en route Doha to Montreal did the same thing over Ireland and diverted into Manchester?
Creepy coincidence.

Coincidence, yes. Creepy? Not really.

The A380 was a medical emergency so needed to get on the ground as soon as possible. The aircraft is serviceable.

And the QR diversion to Manchester was also medical. Just unfortunate coincidences no conspiracy, unless as has been said you want to believe so.

British Airways to operate from Gatwick to Grenoble and Fredrichshafen from December 2014 to April 2015 using A319/A320 aircraft. Club Europe Euro Traveller available. Both services to be twice weekly on Saturday and Sunday. Looks like they have converted previous charters to scheduled flights.

Could be that they are in addition to the charters. BA clearly believe they can break into the ski holiday market.

Most of the charters are operated from Heathrow. I would expect to see these still operated next winter as BA are always keen to pick up extra work over the weekends from Mark Warner, Sartadur etc when the schedule isn't as busy and there is more slack in the Airbus fleet.

Mark Warner do have charters from Gatwick as well - Grenoble and Friedrichshafen this year, and they have a new resort in Austria next year, so have seats on the Monarch flight I believe.

Re the London Gatwick fleet:
Boeing 737-400 fleet will reduce to 12 by end of April
A319 Fleet will possibly go up to 10 by end of summer and possibly 15 by next Spring as all the Boeing 737s should be gone by April 2015.
I thought the A320 fleet for summer was 3 but cannot confirm this.

The 10 leased AirbusA320 will begin to arrive October 2014 and all be in service by April 2015. All will have had maintenance and a full cabin refit before entering service.
Short haul fleet next summer 2015 looking to be 10-12 A320 and 13-15 A319 aircraft.

The Boeing 777 fleet will be 10 based all summer. However aircraft sometimes rotate LHR/LGW depending on maintenance and technical issues. May sometimes look like 11 as swaps take place.

Hope this helps.

They will continue to operate these flights until the introduction of the W14/15 schedule on the 26th October.

BA currently plan to operate the 787 on the rotations shown below during W14/15:

The 787 freed up by using the 767 on the HYD has allowed BA to go ahead with introducing the 787 on the CTU 5 x weekly and increasing the frequency on the AUS to daily earlier this week. BA's 5th 787 was planned to enter service earlier this week, in time to operate to CTU and the additional AUS frequencies. The aircraft's delivery had to be delayed by 3-4 weeks due to production problems at Boeing.

BA originally planned to operate the 767 to HYD between the 5th and 18th of May. BA decided on HYD after looking at the routes planned loads and the operational requirements on other 787 routes. Unfortunately BA was forced to bring forward the start date for 767 ops to HYD after one of BA's 787's had to be removed from service for unscheduled maintenance on it's landing gear and undercarriage after a bird strike in YYZ the day before. The last minute change in plan resulted in long operational delays on the HYD route

The 787 is due to resume operation of the route from the 19th of May. BA 787 delivery details are below

G-ZBJE - Due 10th May
G-ZBJF - Due 18th May
G-ZBJG - Due 1st July
G-ZBJH - Due mid July
