777s at Lgw have been used in the past on S/H only when there has been disruption and /or multiple S/H aircraft u/s. Othertimes they bring in someone like Titan.
With the LGW S/H fleet going to be all Airbus from later this year , it is hoped that serviceability rates will be better than the old 737s.

The shortest LGW route that has seen the 777 in recent years was SSH, which I think was tried for 1 Winter season.

It did a min-rest stop in Egypt rather than turning around and coming straight back.

If Ireland have decided to play in Rome, then Scotland's task at Murrayfield on Saturday will now be so much easier!
Might even avoid the wooden spoon!

Good to see another BA route from Gatwick. (Vienna) I make that a total of 62 destinations including winter and summer seasonal routes. Not bad at all.
Summer looking like about 130 to 140 movements a day, (I know a long way behind Easyjet) again not bad considering a couple of years ago it was about 110. Also a total of 35 based aircraft in peak summer up by about 4 or 5 on a couple of years ago.

Hope that doesn't sound too nerdy!! I promise I do have friends!!

Agreed. Perhaps Scotland simply rolled over against Ireland just to stop England winning the competition?

Great news that BA are expanding at Gatwick on European routes other than the sunshine routes. Vienna is a good choice for a new route as Austrian and BA flights are generally expensive from LHR, as is Easyjet from LGW. Hope the new route performs well as it may encourage BA to develop further European capital city routes from LGW.

BA operating larger A321 and 767 aircraft in place of the usual A319/A320 on some of those flights that are operating. The flights that are operating are experiencing long delays on the flights operating to France. As well as slot delays on flights overflying French airspace

Long haul 767s - if the Aer Lingus take over goes ahead, then larger aircraft may enable a more efficient use of slots - would it be possible to reuse some of the BA long haul 767s that are due to retire shortly, taking out the club and premium economy seating and fitting more economy? Or are there reasons why this would not be practical/cost effective?
