That'll be popular with folks headed into Silicon Valley. Guess they think they can do this without impacting SFO traffic (for those not familiar, the airfields are only around 35 miles apart)

With VS to end 747 ops at LHR, I guess their capacity to SFO will be reduced anyway?

I feel the launch of San Jose and San Jose by BA next May will probably lead to another Grenada/Granada situation at some point! Seems like a logical new route for BA anyway given the strength of their transatlantic network and the presence of the Silicone Valley nearby.

I know that it is still 9 months until the launch of SJC. BA have just updated there schedule for May 2016 and SFO is showing as continuing 2 x daily with a 747 and a A380 operating daily. BA currently operate a 747 9 x weekly and a A380 5 x weekly.

I think there is enough demand to support all 3 flights during the summer season. It wouldn't surprise me however if BA decide to reduce capacity whilst continuing a 2 x daily frequency for the W16 season. BA could continue a daily A380 service and replace the daily 747 with a 777 or 77W

While a Sydney NSW v Sydney NS (ie New South Wales v Nova Scotia) situation is of course possible with BA flying to San Jose, one would assume that AA / DL / UA are much more prone to this problem centred on San Jose, being major airlines based in North America... if these 3 carriers can deal with it, so can BA

BA will take delivery of it's first 787-9 in about 2 weeks time. With 10 more 787-9's joining the fleet in the next 10-12 months. I wonder if the next 787-9 route announcement will be another new one or for an existing one.

So far BA have announced that the 787-9 will be operating as follows:

DEL - BA257/BA256 - 5 x weekly from 25OCT15, increasing to daily from 24MAR16

AUH/MCT - BA073/BA072 - Daily from 26OCT15

KUL - BA033/BA034 - Daily from 05DEC15

AUS - BA191/BA190 - Daily from 01FEB16

SJC - BA279/BA278 - Daily from 04MAY16

BAH/DOH - BA073/BA072 - Daily from 26OCT15
afaik the 73/72 rotation is AUH/MCT. The 125/124 is BAH/DOH.

Something is not quite right there!

BA will increase the frequency on it's flights to LAS from LHR from daily to 10 x weekly from the end of March. The increase mean that BA will operate a total of 13 x weekly from LON to LAS

BA will also increase flight from LHR to SEA to 12 x weekly from the end of March

Amazed to see in the photos of this incident just how many passengers are walking away from this incident with their hand luggage and trolly bags...... seems they value their possessions more than the safety of themselves and other passengers! Do wonder how you mange to come safely down a shute in such circumstances with two pieces of hand luggage.

According to Jethro's Fleet Listings, one of the second hand A320's that was planned to join the LGW fleet as G-GATO, will now no longer be added to the fleet. Does anyone know why BA have decided to not take this aircraft?.

Jethro's Previous Updates

The same update show that BA now plan to add a further 4 787-8's to the fleet. Does anyone have any further info on when these aircraft are planned to be delivered?.

I've got three questions for anyone in the know.

Is the grounding of G-VIIO causing scheduling problems or is there slack in the fleet? Are there any plans to station another 777 at Gatwick?

I see that there were a large number of cancellations to JFK over the summer - generally one r/t per day. Were these commercial cancellations due to lower loads than forecast? Presumably its demand in the premium cabins that matters on this route and this drops in the summer.

Linked to this, I see that G-CIVF has been reconfigured as "High J" 14/86/30/145. Are there plans for any other aircraft to follow? Presumably it will mostly work the JFK route.

Of course it will be causing problems. However there is usually scheduled to be a standby 777 at either LHR/LGW depending on the time or day... This will now obviously be a much rarer occurrence. So any delays will most likely last longer than if the standby a/c was available to be subbed into the schedule or the chance of cancellation (eg. tech) could become more likely.

I see that there were a large number of cancellations to JFK over the summer - generally one r/t per day. Were these commercial cancellations due to lower loads than forecast? Presumably its demand in the premium cabins that matters on this route and this drops in the summer.
There is always at least a daily planned service reduction to the JFK schedule over parts of the summer months, in particular during the school holidays. Why it was continually displayed as a cancelled service on websites such as Heathrow airport etc. is unknown.

Linked to this, I see that G-CIVF has been reconfigured as "High J" 14/86/30/145. Are there plans for any other aircraft to follow? Presumably it will mostly work the JFK route.
There are to be 18 in total to be reconfigured to the Super Hi-J configuration. These will all be ex Hi-J configured aircraft. They will initially operate on routes to JFK followed by BOS, LOS, KWI, DBX among a few as more become refreshed. The few remaining ex Hi-J aircraft that will not receive the refresh will be reconfigured to the Mid-J configuration.

G-VIIL has just re-positioned from LHR to LGW, not sure if this is just standard or to replace the lost G-VIIO.

Not a direct replacement as IIL is a 4 class airframe IIO 3 class. Might be just a short term fix

Seems to be a pattern, G-VIIK returned to LHR yesterday after spending a couple of days doing LGW/BDA and LGW/BGI rotations.
