The question is where will the aircraft go in place of BOD? The days and timings lend it self to re-instate the Tuesday and Thursday Nice which were originally cut for 2014 after some indifferent figures in 2013. The Saturday Bordeaux rotation was planned for morning and could easily do Spain if it started out at 06.30 - Mahon is crying out for a weekend departure as there is just a Thomson flight at present.
The Tuesday morning A320 BOD rotation has been replaced with a MON Charter - BHX - JSI - KVA - BHX operating every tuesday from the 27th May - 7th October departing at 10.55am.
There also seam to be quite a few changes going on with the timetable, looks like all Tuesday HRG's have been dropped with HRG only operating on Fridays. Sundays in the summer timeable have been shuffled around twice now with GIB moving to the afternoons to replace PFO and a PVK MON charter replacing the GIB in the am slot. Thurs/Sat am only 8 a/c needed and Tues/Wed pm's only 8 a/c needed the rest of the time its 9 needed still showing as 7 321's and 2 320's.

Flybe summer
FlyBE Schedule continues to be ever-changing, now the double daily BHX-HAJ only appears to commence mid-May. Appears to be work in progress in the schedule, as w/c 7APR would currently suggest the following schedule BHX-HAJ: BHX-HAJ Dep 10:55 Arr 13:40 BE431 Dep 14:30 Arr 17:10 BE433
Yes, had an e-mail from Flybe to say that our 5pm flight to Hannover in April had been changed to 10:55

Cheers for the update and most appear in Cosmos other than Preveza, which i believe is about the third time it has been on sale for summer 2014 but still shows flybe.
However what you say makes sense with Sunday Paphos cut and GIB re-timed, the aircraft will go to PVK.
Ryanair
Milan MXP remains in the drop-down yet it must be certain that Bergamo ends this month as it is not on sale and still some gaps in the schedule.

PVK is mainly served for those hiring boats for the week e.g. Sailing Holidays Ltd. Previous years they were only served from MAN and LGW but have now been expaded to BHX although believe the flight is shared with other operators to make it viable.
Interesting advert in the back of the latest edition of Flight - Biman looking for a CMI partner to help it operate flights to the USA with two 777's which it states have a lady been purchased.

An amazing amount of changes going on both with Monarch and Cosmos.
The Monarch Preveza on a Sunday now has flight numbers and times arriving back into BHX at 17.05 and they have brought forward the evening Ibiza to 18.05.
As you say the Sunday GIB is now Luton based in 13.35 out 15.00, Paphos on Sunday remains cut.
The BHX-Skiathos-Kavala-BHX IT on a Tuesday is now bookable and has flight numbers.
Other strange appearences in Cosmos - a Friday Skiathos appears as Small Planet (was due to operate) but can't be booked, the Peloponnese is available from BHX in the holidays section (I managed to get a Thursday date) but again when you try to finalise booking it doesn't work. The start date matches the Zante so maybe just an IT glitch. A friend also noted a Small Planet Kos on a Saturday at one point and I definitely saw a Sunday Monarch EFL with hotels but I actually selected Parga as the search criteria so again possibly another IT glitch.
Chania remains in the ZB booking engine but not bookable.

Customs checks
Friend coming back through BHX Tuesday, and through the 'nothing to declare' channel, had to put all bags through a scanner, seemingly to detect imported meat products. Is this a new feature at the airport or is it only used when asian flights are scheduled?
I fly through BHX regularly but have never seen this procedure in operation.
Just curious...

BHX will have yet more runway night closures 5 days a week November and December 2014 due to major problems with the current runway resurfacing.
It is already extended till the end of April 2014
I assume they cannot finish the LED runway lights until all the resurfacing is done..so does that mean no Cat 3 till Jan 2015 ! ?

Custom Checks
Custom Checks are carried out at random intervals, but are more likely to take place when passengers from far-flung places are arriving. However, it may be pure chance, but over the last few months I have seen the checks taking place more often at those times where I usually arrive.

Direct China Charter flights - this summer
I've had an e-mail from BHX today stating that China Southern is to offer a short series of charter flights to Beijing this summer (between 22nd July and 6th August), using an A330.
Not a long series of flights at all but I think this is positive news and shows, I suggest, the runway extension being put to good use.

Judging by the information in the link provided by the airport it is a single tour being offered. Looks like the aircraft will position in on July 22nd to operate the outbound, then return on the 5th August, positioning out. Appears to be operated by a Birmingham-based Chinese-focussed travel agency. Nice flights for Birmingham, but doesn't look like the toe is going quite so far into the water as the initial comments suggested.

Curious Pax.
I think that at present no new schedule flights have been agreed between the 2 countries, so perhaps charter flights will be a way forward .
It is interesting that Al Nippon also intimated 18 months ago, they were looking at possible charter flights to BHX for the same reason ,high demand from tourists looking to go to Stratford and Warwick Castle .
Whether they will materialize seasonally too, well no indication of that at present, but perhaps China Southern have set a president.
Will be interesting to see if China Southern extend the number of flights in 2015, or get the go ahead if they are interested in full scheds perhaps summer only ?
Still a great start, and made possible by our runway extension.
