Lots of LUFTHANSA announcements today....expansion plans from 7 UK airports, even BMI Regional announcing an LH codeshare on its German routes from Bristol....nothing involving Newcastle though.
I was hoping for a FRA route announcement.

Don't worry, they'll come to their senses soon and wish they did it years ago I might have said it before but by all accounts HLX was very pleased with NCL... Didn't they operate Munich, Stuttgart, Hanover and Cologne at the same time?

Easyjet
Bristol. No morning flights except Monday. Other days mainly 2 afternoon/evening flights or one afternoon/evening flight.
Day return only available on Mondays I think.
From what I have seen the whole winter schedule is not very passenger friendly.

HLX may have been pleased at the time but post recession we are living in different times. The LH to DUS is the only viable option with any longevity that I can see operating to Germany.
HLX/EZY could not make their German flights work from NCL. I know a couple of the routes HLX flew were popular due to military families stationed out there but my understanding is that this market is now a lot smaller than before.
In terms of EZY have any routes got new increased frequencies? Or are the aircraft just going to do less flying in the winter months?

Jet2
I see that Jet2 have began to release summer 2015 flights, already Blackpool and East Midlands have had a new destination added. I didn't realise that East Midlands now has more routes by Jet2 than Newcastle. I wonder if there is any new routes planned for Newcastle, and that its strange Larnaca and Zakynthos and Kos are not offered from Newcastle already as they are from EMA.
Has anyone also experienced the airports new Aspire and Aspire Plus lounges and two new eateries, The Beer House and Flying Hippo? With the new location of the Aspire Lounges I guess in due course the old lounge will be turned into retail units.

BRS/Easyjet
The no morning flight on Tue/Wed/Thurs actually starts mid Sept. Then its Mon mornings only from OCT.
Many of the winter flights are operated by BRS based aircraft.
It seems odd to have 2 afternoon/evening flights within about 3 hrs to and from BRS on some days with nothing in the morning. Of course on some days there is just one flight per day in the afternoon/evening.
This used to be a very very popular service. Cant see it staying that way.
Your right Hipennine its bizarre, as is the LGW going to once daily some weekdays from OCT.
Have a bad feeling about Easyjets commitment to NCL.

easyJet NCL-BRS
The annual passenger figures from 2006 to 2013 are as follows. It will be seen that the major fall was in 2008 with the 'peak recession' years of 2009 and 2010 also seeing substantial falls. Recent years have been fairly steady but if this reduction in the schedule continues next year then obviously numbers will fall significantly.
246,000; 246,000; 202,000; 187,000; 166,000; 168,000; 171,000; 175,000
NCL-BRS is still the busiest route by passenger numbers between two English provincial cities.
There is an hourly train service and this may be taking some toll although it was thought that like, GLA and EDI, NCL was far enough from BRS to favour air over train.
The BRS-LBA link ended last year and BRS-MAN some years before that (neither with easyJet) and it's believed that the hourly train service between Bristol and those cities might have been the main reason as they are closer to Bristol than is Newcastle.

Interesting figures/information from MerchantVentura thanks.
I think what is so odd is having the 2 rotations within 3 hrs or so of each other, both in the afternoon/evening.
Surely it would attract more passengers if one was in the morning and the other in the afternoon/evening as it will still be in Mondays. I dont think that it is down to aircraft availability.
Im sure that the air service has a much shorter journey time than the train making it very attractive to many, however these new schedules will possibly help kill the route off.
Have they cut flights from EDI and GLA?

This will kill off the route. Same happened with the NCLSTN. They changed the schedule so there were of no use to anyone, and then the route was dropped.
The drive NCL-BRS and the train both take around five hours. Given travel to airport, check in, wait, board, fly, arrive, bus to city (adding £14 return), then it's not surprising that it's difficult to compete with the train on a city centre to city centre basis.

The Bristol Airport bus costs £11 return, not £14. Unlike London, the train to Bristol is too slow to do business day trips. Day trips by plane would be possible if only easyJet ran a sensible timetable.

The drive takes 5 hours unless there's an incident on the M1/M42/M5, and is massive hassle from a drivers pov, and is totally unproductive time for the businessman. The train is frequrently late or cancelled and regularly overcrowded. The train is also frequently spectacularly expensive. I can't do a days business in the SW going by train unless it includes an overnight. Yesterday, I flew to BRS, hopped in a hire car, drove to Exeter, did 6 plus hours of business, then reverse and was back in NCL by 20.50 (ok the flight was 10 mins early). And managed to fit in a fish and chips stop en route back to BRS !
I know it all comes down to yields, but those Bristol flights are always pretty choc-a-bloc. Remember that the annual figures quoted above date back to when Ezy operated 3 return flights per day.

Why oh why when we get these train vs plane comparisons does everybody assume that everybody is going from city to city centre - now that the EXT service has gone NCL-BRS is connecting the North East and the South West.
