You all know full well why Brits go on holiday in the summer and not the winter is because parents are fined for taking their kids out of school and the long school break happens in the summer. If the government finally wakes up and allows schools to have several 2 week breaks throughout the school year instead of one long one in the summer then you would see a change in travel habits.

Perhaps because the UK's maritime climate is unpredictable at any time of year. We can have warm sunny summers or cool wet ones. Winter can be cold and damp or clear and bright. You don't know what you're going to get, so how can you plan your holidays around the weather?

The other issue is that family holidays need to be planned round the school calender. The longest school holiday is during the summer. Go figure.

Balance of probability with the weather though...

And I re-iterate my above question about American school holidays.. And is there a Scandinavian viewer out there who can answer re: Scandischool breaks?

That's not really the point though, is it BN2A. Do the Americans, Scandis etc fine the parents for taking kids out of school? If so then you have a point....if not...

You have a valid point.
However l will ask you one question.
Does every group of passengers who travel in the summer, have rug rats or older kids in tow?

None of this is relevant to the Thomson feed, should be just for Thomson affairs, not the American, Scandinavian and British school systems and if you got fined or not.

American School Holidays

l can only speak for down here in Florida, but here the kids can have any time off in the year as long as its not exam time. All they do is go to summer school during the long summer break and make up the two weeks, summer school is available for the whole summer break if needed..

From personal experience, changing the school holidays would be good and bad.
- Pros would be that habits would change, people would be more inclined t go on holiday in slower months of the year which could help the industry out, although downside to this is lots don't want to go on holiday over Christmas/new year and cant afford it in January, so December/January will always be slow, an added downside is that it would probably then not be worth sending aircraft to Canada/Scandinavia if only for 2 months, assuming there were to be longer holidays in October/November and February/March.
- More downsides, prices for people without children would then become higher for more periods of the year and they wouldn't like that
- Finally less important it, kids love looking forward to the long summer holidays and it would take about one cycle of school age kids to get over the loss.

I don't think any changes will happen and I think UK carriers have probably learned to manage with seasonal demand. Getting rid of APD will come first.

Back to TOM, reckon they'll get any 789's? I think they could managed with about 4/5 789's but The 7810 is probably a bit out of their league.

Are Thomson planning on using the 787 on any short haul routes next summer? Heard a mention of BHX with some 787 short haul flights.

Thanks.

I wouldn't have thought any B787s would operate short haul out of BHX. When was the last time BHX had B763s on short haul? Also how many 763s for LGW short haul next year?

Thomson have 4 767's for next summer and they had 5 for short haul this summer 3-4 at MAN and 1-2 LGW depending on the day. They also have 2 extra 787's for next summer so not sure what they are being used for?

Also Aberdeen base is being operated by Europe Airpost and Exeter sees a Norwegian TFS based 737 for their TFS flight.

G-OBYE working TOM4141 from LPA-LGW as we speak. I wonder if this is just for the Xmas period or due to a fault on the scheduled B738?

Back to the original question........
Yes the 787 will be doing short haul next summer,15% of the programme!1 aircraft at LGW and 1 at MAN I think, don't know if they will wander round the uk!
Thomson will be receiving one of TUI Nordic's 787 summer 15 as the Nordic programme has proved not as busy as forecast, so tuig arrives in Jan from charleston,2 more 787 by end of May,presumably tuih and tuii.
Due to the Nordic programme not being as busy as predicted, there are not too many Thai trips but are now discovering CUN,MRU and PUJ as there are flights to those places from Scandinavia.

Does anyone know if the Costa Rica flights from Gatwick will be winter seasonal only or if they will run into summer 2016 too?
