Inevitable or not it's sad to see people lose jobs with an airline going down......best wishes for speedy re-employment for you all......there but for the grace.

Your right mate it's a good leveller might make some of us realise the grass is always green judging by your comments on your airlines woes. At the end of the day working for SIL was very sivilised but it did'nt work and won't pay the bills from now. As Lou Scannon says working for Laker was the best ever airline we've ever worked for and i still have fond memories to this day.
Staff will always remember their career at SIL as it's likely to be back to the grind from now on!

I personally think it didnt help having all SIL financial info available on the network. There must be some regret on the AIM listing. The demise was very public.

Someone stole one of our awards from the lounge this morning, along with the Silverjet toy lorry!

I understand that G-SLVR and G-SJET are parked at Luton. Anyone know where G-SILC is and where these aircraft are bound?

G-SILC is in the Monarch hangar in LTN where it was undergoing its C-Check, and I believe until the company goes into liquidation the planes will be grounded at LTN, racking up parking fees none the less!

I do feel sorry for many of the staff at sj, it not nice to find out you have no job its happened to me in the past,

however as ex FJE staff i feel its a bit what goes around comes around, when FJE were taken over we were told by mr hunt that he compared the Charter crew to taxi drivers which put many peoples backs up as we got the feeling he did not value the fje crew, then we were told dont worry we are keeping fje only to be told we were not needed, but we could apply for SJE, even though we were working for the company, when people did apply most were told no thank you.

However for the vast majority of the crew a SJE i hope you all get your money owed and there will be airlines ready to snap you up.
hold your heads up high.

but i have no sympathy for one LH. I may get flammed for this post but that is my opinion.

I see SJET is in the LTN engine bay at the moment, asides from being tech does this hint towards anything?

Thumbs up

r-u-m-o-u-r... in response to your question wrt stranded crew:

The MD (JH) of 'Zoom UK' arranged for SilverJet's crew stranded in New York to be brought home with us last night (on our JFK-LGW service).

I am sorry for the people that worked for SJ it is a difficult time but this can not be such a surprise unless they only listended to the CEO.

I had a lot of shares and have lost a lot of money but am wondering how much has the CEO lost, did he put his money where his mouth was or did he just waste millions of other peoples money?

Remember what he said when Maxjet went out of buisness last year? It was a Christmas present to Silverjet. I wonder who this will be a present to with SJ now off the scene?

Considering this comment and the underhand and untruthful way he managed Flyjet I think that it is poetic justice this has happened to him.

Even if he has not lost all his money I am sure that his reputation in the city has been damaged, who would now give him money to start any other buisness?

Well if all else fails he can start driving taxis!!!

What goes around comes around.

As an EZJ pilot at Luton, I am very sad to see Silverjet's demise. It is very sad indeed for all involved - most of all the crew, both FD and CC. We lost a number of really good CC to SJ, and now we are recruiting seasonal CC for the Summer only, so it is unlikely that a lot of them would be reconsidered for employment with us at LTN, assuming they would want to come back. We also lost some good engineers, although I thought their engineering was done by a sub-sid of My Travel - I'm not 100% sure.

However, at times like this you are glad to not be at the bottom of anyone's seniority list (if we had one) and also personally I am glad to be in an airline that hoepfully has the cash and knowhow to ride the economic wave, and fuel bill.

There are more airlines to fall this year I'm afraid, and I hope that I've picked the right place to ride the rough waves. It sounds so selfish but when you've got mortgages and hungry little mouths to feed its vital.

My heart goes out to all the people who will inevitably lose their livehoods over this, and I hope that there are suitable employers for them all asap. Good luck.

Stranded Crew

The crew that were left in Dubai flew back with emirates last night. Silverjet actually paid for them to fly back buissness class and arranged a coach from LHR to LTN. I think all crew are back safely now.

Nope. That sounds like a business analysis/current affairs program on TV? I made my comment based on being a Pax for 40+ years. I worked in MUC for 18 months and knew the route very well in the Go and DebonAir(!) days. Although I hardly use STN as it's a long way from me.

I made a very very small investment in SIL at 15 p per share - I really thought they could do well.

Never flew with them but did with Maxjet. Great concept will work someday.

Hope the employees find jobs quickly

SquareOne, Just because G-SJET is in the engine run bay does not mean it is tech, the bay is used to park aircraft, when not in use.
LTN will not be over the moon about 3 B767s being parked 24/7, they have not got the space.

Post What a shame.

Leased, Slim.

If someone were to do it properly, the model still holds water. B777-200LR perhaps, LHR-SYD non-stop all premium? Yesterday's aircraft, old routes, old thinking...nah.
