I was really looking forward to the experience. My thoughts are now with the employees, having been there three times myself with other airlines.

Rebooking with Big Airways and paying the extra I'm afraid.

AA weren't doing too well either

AA weren't doing too well on the STN/JFK route either. They obviously only put the effort into the business class: they had 767 with an old cabin fit in the back half of the aircraft for most of the economy, and a new cabin fit to the front half of the aircraft with about 6 rows of new economy seats/overhead bins, and the rest of the front half was the newest business class seats. The business class was full-on, but the economy was well behind current standards, with no individual entertainment.
I used that STN/JFK route since I live near STN and don't care about inflight movies. Sometimes the aircraft was very empty, 20-30% full in business and 10-15% full in economy on several flights I was on.
I'm pretty convinced that AA moved into STN both to increase their seat availability and pick up some north-of-London business traffic, and to cause Maxjet/EOS/Silverjet some pain. I expect they would have kept the route open if it made money, but now it's served one main objective of killing off the three upstarts and isn't making any money, it's for the chop.
I wonder what's going to happen to that AA business lounge I saw under construction out at the end of the STN gate satellite the AA flights used? Best coffee shop seats in Stansted perhaps?
Pity about Silverjet, I only heard good things about them from the passenger point of view, and some staff obviously loved working there too. Perhaps there can be only one? Maybe someone can make it work as the only business airline out of Stansted, especially if BAA have a lot of lounge space going cheap and want the cachet of a transatlantic service there...

Okay children, before you start crying - listen up. The first post was made on my iphone and the second post was made by the browser not closing properly and therefore leaving my original post open. The 'reply' button was activated a second time by some part of my anatomy when I put the phone in my pocket some time later. Maybe I just have fat thighs.
So wind your sodding necks in.

As for SJ - I'm incredibly sorry for the staff and customers who have been affected by this. My point was that I held back on booking with SJ as I was worried about the amount of speculation in the press and on these boards about the company's financial position. Anyone with any nous could see that, as I'm sure could the people who worked for them. This hasn't exactly come as a surprise. I was pointing out that I'm relieved that I'm not starting married life queueing up at ATOL for my two and half grand back. If that's wrong then shoot me.

a pity

Sorry I never got to try them either. I was patiently waiting for a LAX service to start, which never happened. Just booked BA CW to SFO instead. Best of luck to everyone out in the jobmarket again.

Our thoughts are with those who made a real effort to make this work.

With out attempts at product innovation where would our industry be ?

Some things work, some don't - some are blessed by good factors and timing - oil being North of $120 a barrel I am sure is a factor.

Perhaps we should reflect on the good fortune of our own situation before try to act like smart arse smug fools saying " I told you so !"

Usually these people change the record when success happens as well and try and take credit for "predicting that" as well

Very sad news but I must admit when I saw promised funding from the Middle East I did wonder.

A lot of those promises seem to come to nothing.

Best wishes to the staff. Things like these happen in life. One just needs to pick up his belongings and move on. Joy comes in the morning - look on the bright side.

“To all the managers Chief exec and money men at the top. You should be ashamed of yourselves. Your nothing more than con men.

Taking peoples hard earned cash in the knowledge you were going bust is disgraceful. Even to the extent of offering free tickets if we bought a full fare ticket ONLY YESTERDAY. Many angry people who have lost thousands of pounds”

Hudson bay, based on your intervention I suspect you have never had the opportunity to manage, secure finance on, or run any kind of corporation (or indeed an airline).

Very sad day. My thoughts with all the staff.

A very friendly airline with good intentions.

May you all find employment soon.

Really sorry to hear the news, hope you all find alternative employment soon.

Taking peoples hard earned cash in the knowledge you were going bust is disgraceful. Even to the extent of offering free tickets if we bought a full fare ticket ONLY YESTERDAY. Many angry people who have lost thousands of pounds.

This staement staggered me! Surely, something can be done for those who were shafted very recently. If not, then whoever came up with this brilliant idea should be strung up on a short rope from the top of the control tower.

As with most others above, it is very sad news.

As a treat I took myself and the good lady for a holiday to the big apple early last year and we flew with SilverJet and found the whole experience to be absolutely superb. (I have never flown anything outside of cattle class before). I found the whole setup at Luton and all the way to Newark first class and am genuinly sad for all concerned.

I wish all the very best to all SilverJet employees for the future,

V3

The last flight

07:30E LFU SLR254 B762 OMDB EGGW A 400 07:15 07:30E N I 07:06A N N

What must the crew be thinking knowing in a few minutes you do not have a job.

My thoughts go out to you guys

I hear the last 13 crew are being flown home tonight by Zoom FOC from New York if thats any consolation.

It is very sad that so many people were conned into thinking this was going well. To the very end the management were talking of expansion and new routes.
With regards to that and the offering of free seats this week - that is the job of management. All mangers MUST keep being outwardly positive irrespective. Every single failed airline management has done the same.

Unhappy

So sorry to hear about Silverjet. I was hoping this carrier was going to give AA, BA and Virgin a good permanent run for their money across the Atlantic.
Once the oil prices settle down, the big 3 will be able to charge what they like for Business and First.

.

Not quite true:
Q: I have a reservation that I've already paid for on a future Silverjet flight. How can I get a refund?
A: If you have paid by credit card, we suggest you contact your credit card company from whom you should be able to obtain a refund. If you have paid by debit card or charge card please contact ATOL, Section CAA, 49 - 59 Kingsway, London, WC2B 6TE. Alternatively, if you booked your flights through a travel agent or shipping company, please contact them for assistance.

Good luck to you all at Luton. Did you get paid this month or is that another blow
