For info, Silverjet have 2 767's visiting MAN next week.
They will be visiting the Monarch hangar.
G-SJET will be present from 22-10 to 24-10
G-SLVR will be present from 25-10 to 26-10
I do not have any arrival and departure times.
This is also subject to change.

Paxing All Over The World
Since the very lively thread in R&N about the adverts of Y7 appears to have been canned, I'd better not repeat the things I said about the terrible mistake they made!
In an interview with ABTN, Silverjet's CEO says they are looking to add extra aircraft next autumn to increase frequencies and add destinations. Possible are LA, San Francisco and Johannesburg.

Dubai expansion?
'Business class airline Silverjet may make Dubai a hub for future worldwide expansion, a senior executive said on Tuesday, as the carrier gears up for the launch of its Dubai-London route next month.
Speaking on the sidelines of a travel exhibition in Dubai, the airline’s Chief of Staff Katherine Gershon told ArabianBusiness.com the company is eyeing expansion to the west coast of the US, South Africa and the Far East from the emirate.
She said Silverjet will be adding two long-range planes in June - bringing its fleet to five - which will open up destinations across the world for the UK-based carrier, including San Francisco, Shanghai, Singapore and Hong Kong.'

I continue to be baffled by Silverjet. I do not understand how it can possibly sustain the dreadful losses of shareholders funds. Raising 25 million and then losing most of that within 6 months is a very poor performance. I cannot work out why DXB is to be operated. That market is totally dominated by EK who have a superb product. Looks like they are straying into the lion´s den. Watch out for bad news.

5th Award !
Silverjet wins Best Airline award for 2007 by the Sunday times travel magazine experts.
The core of the investment is for the longer term and not the inevitable set up costs.

The figures cover the inevitable set up costs including 6 months before they even flew. Lets see where they stand in a years time when more people have experienced what they offer and the five aircraft are operating.

Anyone been there or seen pictures on the web?

On the operation (ie no planes or termails) they are probably turning a profit.
SJet are going places.
Almost every business runs at a loss in its early stages.
Just think, before a £ is received, they have to spend out on wages & salaries, aircraft purchasing/refurbishment, advertising, a decent web presence, (in SJ's case) terminal facilities, training, printing, advance rentals, and 101 other things.
Each ticket sold includes partial recovery of these initial costs, for some years. So what happens is that the initial cash 'burn' has to be reduced as quickly as possible, and turned into profitable growth. Only then do shareholders' funds start to increase. And that's without any additional investment (like additional aircraft, personnel, training, marketing, etc).
It looks as though SJ has got off to a good start. I note that they have - quite rightly - increased their prices, and the lead in price in the new year is £1099 rather than £999 on the New York service. Best of luck to them.

Isn't this the airframe that will be spending a couple of days at next weeks Dubai airshow (touting for business no doubt), prior to the start of the route on the 18 November.
