Start of the second daily flight to EWR seems to have been put back from 22 July to 31 July.

I understand that the deferment is to allow G-SJET to undertake a major check before going double-daily.

Had some bad weather and ATC delays ex EWR recently, suspect a lot of discretion required. I can see SJET having to put 3 Pilots on these trips soon to avoid loosing crews due to hours, in July there will be enough sitting around

Grrr

But will there be enough crew once the two additional ex Britannia 767's are delivered (making 4 in total) later this, and early next year?

Maybe they are planning on using the ex Flyjet crews after the Flyjet operation ends after the summer season.
I understand both B757s leases end in November.

I very much doubt that any Flyjet crew would even want to work for them.

A company that has treated us so badly, we have not received any payslips for at least three months (is there any law against that?), no P45's sent out (is there a law against that?) and have not payed the crew correctly.

The Inland Rev have been contacted about this!!!

Don't forget that a lot of crew did go for interviews a while ago and hardly any one was offered a job.

We were told at a meeting that flyjet was like a taxi company and silverjet was like a limo!!!! Great managment skills eh?

Anyway it looks like the limo is not working very well can't say I am sorry

Silverjet today announced a load factor of 70% for June, compared to 62.6%for May. Also confirmed that the second daily flight to Newark will start on 31 July, whilst that the route chosen for the third aircraft, starting in November, will be announced at the end of this month. From past reports, Chicago looks to be the favourite.

bad stats

they carried less people in June than May according to the news reports. The load factor was up as they dropped lots of weekend flights due to tech problems and checks. Putting two planes on a route with only an average of around 70 passengers in total sounds like a bad plan. They will need big discounts to stop the load factor dropping to 35%.

Befree, the LF dropping to 35% presumes they carry exactly the same number of pax once the 2nd service starts, which is pretty unlikely.

The extra flexibility of a second flight will encourage more to travel with them than do so now, also a second flight will double the number of lowest price seats available so expect a few more leisure pax. The LF will drop with the extra flight, but it will pick up again over time. It is the same situation as Eos, who now have 4 flights on certain days.

Silverjet loads

Silverjet are now using the likes of Amadeus GDS, and are selling travel agency and tour operator packages to NYC for £1600. This seems like an attempt to sell their wares to the mainstream city break crowd and to allow agents to sell Silverjet seats remotely. That should improve the load factors, but would possibly result in bulk discounted seats being sold to the travel trade.

I do not expect the load factor to be 35%. It was more about needing to fill twice the number of seats as before or even more. It seems they were flying about 6 sectors a week each way in June. That should rise to 13 come August. They can fill seats by discounting and selling packages but this is going to be a step change in the capacity. The problems they had in June may also reduce repeat custom. If the takeup is slow then merger into one of the other startup airlines could happen soon.

Question

Does anyone here know why Silverjet have decided to cancel the second LTN-EWR departure on Tuesday's only.

Their website stated last week that the service would not operate on Tuesday's as of August 6th and now this has comment has been changed to "This flight will commence from 3 September 2007".

It seems odd to just skip one flight per week for one month only. Is this just because of poor load factors on a Tuesday?
