Similar drivel to whats being said on here. I know it is called Proffesional Pilots Rumour network (Wish it was left to the pilots to discuss the rumours instead of any tom dick or harry)

If I Am Allowed

This is not rumour but facts.

GSM have sold aircraft at both EDI & GLA this week.
2 x 737 aircraft.

A possie were being shown their aircraft and heard from HQ/Colinton
the deal was done.

Why do you sell aircraft that are only 1 or 2 years old?

Well just as I expected GSM have NOT gone into liquidation this morning and all seems to be business as usual.

I wonder what those that are posting such terrible rumours are getting out of this? There are good people in that airline that do not need to be hearing these rumours about their jobs, especially in the current climate. That goes for any airline. Lets just stop the negative spin and get on with the job at hand, the press make it hard enough without thoes in the industry turning on each other.

Re the two 737 sold 'this week' (was actually some time ago) are in fact old 600 series and unsuitable for the kind of work GSM do. Davyday - don't post 'facts' when they are indeed not fact at all. Those aircraft are certainly not 1 or 2 years old, they are just simply too small and unsuitable!

Oh, looks like I won't need those extra beach clothes today! Very much, business as usual. Flight's almost all full and all on time, with two exception's.

What is it with the need of people to post such utter rubbish DAVYDAY? You are obviuosly very ill informed. Come back with some hard facts, or please do not post here.

This past week, we saw one -600 G-CDKD start it deep maintenance before going to it's new owner in Korea. It's certainly not 1 or 2 years old.

The other two we sold much earlier in the year, were also -600's G-CDRA & RB, both of which went back to the owner's we purchased them from - SAS!

Why were they sold? Simple really. We were offered a very good price for them and they are not really all that suitable for our routes. With the load factors we have, in the region of 85-100%, we only just achieve the legs. And given where we will be going in the future, they just do not fit the business needs.

If I undertsand correctly, we are seeking to lease new airframes to replace the sale of the -600's and the two -300's which are due to be returned at the end of the year. More 7's and 8's for those interested.

Thumbs up MOD Contracts

I hear GSM have secured two MOD contracts and another a/c being leased out over the winter. While others are grounding a/c at winter GSM have secured lucritive contracts for some of their planes with the others continuing to operate their winter schedule. It seems to me they have a solid business plan and with lower oil and less competition they will get through this downturn and continue well into the future.

mickeyman,

I had heard the mention of 9's some time ago, months ago in fact and as you say, there are a few available. They are ER's too which is what we'd need. I notice also XL had two on order and not due for delivery till some time in May. Who knows, might even see those as that's when we would need them.

Still, I'm not sure how well fitted the 9 would be. They could only operate from EDI and GLA on the much longer sectors, such as Egypt/Turkey/Cyprus for them to be of worth. But then, that's maybe the plan!

But of course, it's all just speculation?

Get the -900s. Get them ETOPS approved and use them over the pond... Its not as if GSM dont use the odd 737 anyway for the Sanford when needed. Basically the same approx pax as a B757-200 and probably a whole lot cheaper to run.

(Not that theres anything wrong with the good old B757!)

Come on Glamm get back on here and tell us where your reliable information source went wrong. You must have had a chance to thank him/her for the incorrect info by now. Ok this is a rumour network and you do see some other tosh on here, but in the current climate you probably gave one or two people a sleep ness night last night.. Perhaps a thought to have, prior to posting in future. What you post can affect people!

To balance the books so to speak, Flyglobespan is in a good position considering the current market, there biggest issue being too much work coming in.
Flyglobespan will be around for a long time yet, is not in debt and contrary to what other crap is posted on here, is a pleasure to work for.

Chickenstrips/All - I apologise for my poor judgement in posting what I did. My source is a family member who works for a travel agent. I jumped the gun as their last info re exel was correct.

Flyfish - It does warrant not posting silly rumours causing possible sleepless nights for people. I have never been great at thinking of others so my fiancee tells me. Def thought required before future posting.

Donpo - I did no other posting than on here. Maybe my source's source got some info from the other forum.

Again, sincere apologies for what turned out to be senseless and factless rumouring. I do wish Globespan well as like I said, many people I know would be affected by any loss.

GLAMM,

Your response and apology is accepted. These are tough times in aviation and most of the folks here, myself included, have jobs, wives, family homes to pay for. More haste, less speed!

The travel agent, would happen to be Barrhead Travel? Feel free to PM a response, but one would be appreciated.

True I agree last night was a difficult than need be experience. However it is admirable and refreshing to hear someone have the guts and humility to admit that they're wrong.
We all march on and wish for a happy ending

Mind you on other forums it became clear that last night all too many people get some kind of kick out of others misfortune. Some people should have utter conviction that difficult times will never come to them.

GSM are a very stable, cash-rich airline and tour operator. The rumours started here last night have been proven wrong - airline is still flying and will continue to fly for many years to come for many reasons.

A/C that GSM fly are new and use less fuel.
A/C leased out to AI, Air Callin, MoD, Oman Air, etc, all provide luctrative revenue for the company
Many Ad-Hoc charters taken up at short notice to cover the gaps left by Futura, so this will provide lucrative revenue.
GSM do not fly unprofitable routes - if they don't make a profit, they go.
Lots of other Ad-Hocs to come for W08.

Overall, this airline is strong, with a lot of assets that are debt-free. Projected to make a nice profit of £2-3m this year. The reason they got rid of the 600s is the lack of range for GSMs routes. These have been sold off at a profit to the company.

Rumour

Heard this rumour last night when i was on shift, this is why i logged on here. No chance are we going down. Check the loads we are taking, 80% or more. The 600- useless couldnt cope with the routes and if i hear FAO and KT/KD in the same sentence again i will snap. Our situation isnt being helped FC being crocked either Things look good at moment MOD, Air Calin, Oman Air....looks like we could do with more aircraft, 900s sound good to me.

Jet2 are to take on Flyglobespan on a route for the first time!
EDI-IBZ they will fly 2 x weekly Tue & Sun. Must have noticed there was a gap because GSM's schedule is very small only flying a couple of Sat's.

*Can bee seen on the Jet2 website in the news section
Cheap Flights | Book Flights Online | Jet2.com

Hopefully GSM do aquire new a/c or somebody!

webby1919, when does the MOD charters start and which a/c is lined up to operate it, or will it rotate among the B767s?
