If they want airlines to provide a proper service then the Airport will have to get away from its part time role.

Assuming Manston is still up for sale, perhaps this will attract a buyer who will make it a more attractive proposition?

So ... connecting MSE with the world anyone that should be arriving, from the world, back in to AMS after 0915 (ish) of a morning, which will be the vast majority of them, is expected to await until 2050 of an evening for their connecting flight to MSE? ... Yep, that's really going to work

And as for the comment regarding KLM's marketing and this service should work ... What happened to KLM's Liverpool service?

I'm not so sure about that. A huge number of the Schiphol arrivals from North America, Africa, Middle East, Far east are first thing in the morning. But clearly KLM are just testing the waters initially - this will be their only twice daily service to any UK destination.

As regards preference for 28 arrivals/10 departures, again, not so sure - it will depend on KLM's preferences within the ATS route structure. Departures are just as - perhaps more - likely to go via JACKO than via DVR and KONAN. JACKO is due north of EGMH and would give slightly shorter track miles for a 28 departure. Arrivals will probably come via Y76 and ERING, which would favour landing on 28, but that may depend on what level they're released at from controlled airspace, plus the crew's judgements about how long it takes to backtrack from a landing on 28 compared to straight off 10 at B2 to the terminal apron.

I don't think there be any northbound departures from Manston. Crossing the four inbound lanes in to London from the east Y76, L980, L610 and L179 to get to the eastbound fix ARTOV and L620 will probably not be granted. A more probable routing will be DOVER, KONAN, KOKSY, FERDI, HELEN, TOLEN, RIVER, EH605 and then a continued RIVER transition to AMS. I agree with you NorthSouth, Y76 and ERING is the most likely route inbound to MSE.

Well, departures via JACKO (to enter Dutch airspace via REDFA or SOMVA) are in the NATS Standard Routes Document, so ATC is geared up for them. I agree the issue there is clearance across the inbound routes to London. Then again routing via DVR involves similar issues. Getting a clearance to climb into controlled airspace that is a bi-directional airway with lots of London outbounds plus en route traffic above won't be easy, as EUjet found in their ops from Manston 2004-5. Lots of chugging around Kent at max 6000ft waiting for climb.

With Infratil doing a buy one get one free deal on PIK, what future for Manston?

Just looking on a map it seems too far from London to be attractive as additional runway capacity, and the noise concerns from Ramsgate/Herne Bay and possible conflicting traffic from Southend and the London TMA make development problematic?

Can Manston be developed at all, or is it just a future housing development in waiting?

KLM Customer Service

I hope customers trying to use the KLM service get better treatment than I am getting. Booked to fly to Manston from Amsterdam on 2nd April, booked separate tickets from Brussels to Amsterdam. KLM have now changed the timing of flight to Manston, not even bothered to inform me. Contacted them and now they won't even help me by amending my Brussels flight to through ticket to Manston to save me time and possibly missing Manston bound flight. I fully support this new service, just a shame KLM appear not to care at all about its customers, when they change things.

tewmike,

Why not take the train to Oostende and then the ferry to Ramsgate?

Time to spare? ..... Then go by air!

It's a better idea than KLM sadly Transeuropa Ferries don't take foot passengers!

Well how about rail from home to Brussels, then Eurostar to Ashford.

Personally, for short journeys like that I avoid air like the plague, it's just too much hassle!

Ah, OK then, times have changed since Oostende Lines and Sally Lines, sounds kinda stupid that passengers must be attached to a motorized vehicle, either stupidity or a licensing issue I guess.

Back in the day these were the best fun to travel on
