EI-EAV?

Any truth to the rumour that EI-EAV is being dry leased to an airline in China? (Source: another forum)

EI-EAV

Unfortunately, there is a lot of truth to that rumour...

In fairness, EI have a long and relativity successful track record of leasing out 'surplus' aircraft during lean times.

well if the A/C is not being used then they might as well try and earn some money from it

Taiwan, not China

The aircraft will apparently be wet-leased to China Airlines of Taiwan, for a period of 5-8 years.

Also, EI-JFK will be leaving the fleet in September.

JetPhotos.Net Photo » EI-JFK (CN: 086) Aer Lingus Airbus A330-301 by John Fitzpatrick

This will leave them with a fleet of seven aircraft for the Winter: four A330-300s (DUB*, ORD, DUZ and EDY) and three A330-200s ('DAA, LAX, DUO).

(*The only one still without up to date IFE).

AFAIK, DUB is the oldest aircraft in the entire EI fleet at this stage, so unlikely to see any significant expenditure on her.

DUB and ORD ...cant see them staying for much longer being so old so maybe you just might see the fleet down to 5 before long.

EI-ORD has just had the new cabin fitted so I think it will be staying a while.

So when does EI-EAV leave for China? Seems odd to lose the young and reliable aircraft and plod on with EI-DUB sill on the books ! Ah well investment and all that....

Yes, I'd expect to see 'DUB gone in the short to medium term.

My only concern about 'EAV is CAL's fairly spotty safety record. In the last 40 years of jet operations, EI has yet to lose a jet aircraft; in the last 20 years, CAL has lost (from memory):

1 747-400
1 747-200
1 747-200F
1 MD11
2 A300-600R
1 737-200

Mind you, they have, like KE, cleaned up their safety record fairly drastically over the past decade.

Hi,

Are you sure it's not an operating lease to China Airlines? Seems unusual for EIN to do a wet lease, especially to Taiwan.

Cheers,

And especially a wet-lease for 8 years...! You sure you don't mean dry-lease? I'm not sure EI will be sending crew and maintenance services to Taiwan for 8 years.

EI DUB operates SNN JFK, SNN BOS, DUB JFK, DUB BOS - direct and via SNN, DUB ORD and DUB MCO and of course DUB AGP. As do all the other a/c. EI DUB is not stuck on one particular route. It flew SNN JFK today.

You could kind of see all the changes with the TA route comming.

Interesting to note Aer Lingus have announced a route from their Gatwick base to Vilnius, essentially taking over the previous FlyLAL route. I note this with particular glee as I was castigated by several posters here when I suggested this route several months ago!!

Aer Lingus requested and got 924 slots at Eindhoven for the upcoming winter season.
This equals to 3 daily flights, I expect them to return 616 slots, but thought it was still worth noting.

Foreign Bases

EI should have opened a base in Malaga years ago, before Vueling/Clickair. They already have flights from Dublin, Cork, Belfast and Gatwick flying there daily. And they should have some experience of the Spanish market from their dealings with FUTURA. It really seems to me like a missed opportunity.

Already huge market served from UK/EIRE - AGP. On a sunny Saturday alone, there are 29 flights from London airports from A319 to B757.

MAN: 8
LPL: 4
BHX: 6
BFS: 3
EDI: 2
NCL: 2
EMA: 4
GLA: 2
DUB: 4

Plus probably 10 more from other, smaller airports in the UK plus all the charters. It is a HUGE market. If it was to be for intra-continental flights, they don't really have the image across the continent as much as they do in the UK/EIRE.
