"Just noticed today at work EI-CVA, EI-CVB, EI-CVC & EI-CVD are marked as ''tfr AMS Airlines'' from Jan 11. So their getting rid of 4 A320's to AMS Airlines & replacing them with two, first fleet reduction in a while at EI............"

I asume you are looking at the jethros fleet listings site? I was talking to a mate who is a subscriber to the Irish Air Letter. It is mostly on the money for EI news. It states that EI are withdrawing 3 of the A321 from the fleet and taking delivery of 4 new A320 in Q1 2011. It even has the MSN numbers for the 4 aircraft, although I don't have them to hand myself!

In terms to the extra charge for rows 1-5, I tihnk this is mainly to cater for the pax who wish to get off as quickly as possible.

Great to see EI coping so well with all the snow problems at DUB and by leasing in extra aircraft to operate extra schedules and putting on an extra JFK flight 2107 tomorrow.

Well DK22 what can one say about AL's decision to-day cancelling all DUB departures after 1600!
If RYR did it there would be an outcry, like what do you expect from RYR?
I am very surprised and disappointed at AL's decision considering the obvious discomfiture to its PAX at this time of year.
Is there anyone 'out there' in a position to give a rational explanation for AL's decision?

Yes but Santa Claus is otherwise occupied.

Simple. They knew the DAA couldn't cope and the airport would not reopen tonight and so it has proved.

Makes no difference that DUB is closed until 2300. EI cancelled all flights from 1600 Thursday. Nobody is going anywhere anyway.

If you had looked at the arrivals board before 16:00 most flights were delayed until 19:00 - 22:00. No planes and crew out of hours. Nothing they could do. Aircraft will be all over the place tomorrow morning because the airport is closed until 05:00 tomorrow.

Point taken Jamie2k9.
Pity AL didn't explain it the way you have, then it would be easier for all of us to understand why they had to stop departures after 1600.

Meanwhile it is obvious the DAA will have to invest more in snow clearing equipment and manpower even if it may only be used infrequently.
Other European airports will have to do the same.

It has been reported Gatwick invested 5 million pounds in extra snow clearing equipment compared to half million by Heathrow.

Incidentally I believe the Scandanavian airports do not have the same problems with snow clearance. Lets learn from them.

Hopefully lessons will have been learned by all concerned.

EI obviously knew what the story was and wouldnt u rather know in advance what was happening. They knew both operationally and logistically it was impossible. I see there is a extra inbound boston flight tomorrow EI2138 aeeiving just after midnight, on christmas morning.

RTE reporting that Ryanair are cancelling flights from Dublin from 1200 onwards. With clear blue skies and runways clean. This is very disappointing for stranded passengers. Maybe it's a mistake by RTE. Would Heidelberg and racedo like to provide us with a rational explanation?

Both Ryanair and Aer Lingus are forced to cancel over 30 flioghts from Dublin as Cork and Shannon have run out of dse icing fluid for diverted aircraft which are no grounded.

Tooloose - like I said earlier 'Hopefully lessons will have been learned by all concerned'.
These are exceptional times weather wise and it is too easy to criticise - myself included - without appreciating how exceptional the situation is due to weather.
I suppose it's fair to say steps will be taken to ensure there is more deicing fluid held in reserve for future 'exceptional weather' situations.
Anyway a very Happy Xmas to one and all and my heartfelt sympathy to all of those who did not make it to their home - wherever it is - due to the weather.

See alot of the EI transatlantic flights r cancelled 2day. Get over one snow storm at our end then a massive one hits the East Coast. There's just no let up. U put on extra flights to bring stranded pax home and when u think ur getting somewhere and have cleared the backlog u hit another snow storm at the opposite end.

Aer Lingus are using most of their A330's on Short haul routes to Europe today to clear the backlog which is good in one way but not for US passengers. The hired aircraft will be around for another few days as well.

I was really pleased when the company decided to remove the .com logo from the aircraft as it jarred with the rest of the livery. Having done that they have now decided to add two gigantic white letters to the top of the tailfin in case Mr Magoo doesn't know what aircraft he's looking at. Dear me!

TC, care to elaborate as to why the additional identification is required for T2?

Not bashing, I'm a big fan, love the colours and the airline, I think they're quite elegant, especially having lost the red plook of the "aerlingus.com" add on when they went loco. I just think aesthetically it looks naff having two massive letters on the tail like that. It clashes with the branding I think.
