If so it probably would have been posted, and judging by recent press releases and news articles I doubt any will come any time soon.

Reasons given are that they are technical delays, seems like that time of year again, this is why we are seeing the F50 nearly once a day at the moment.

New name!!

What's everyone's opinions on this idea to rename the airport??

Heard a little about it this morning on 'Real Radio'....suggestions put forward include - "Dame Shirley Bassey International Gateway"

Tom Jones International, Richard Burton International and wait for it.....

Gavin & Stacey Airport.......this seems to be a front runner

Seems the airport are spending quiet a bit of money looking into this.

Possible name change for CWL

My opinion- total C**P!! Why don,t they spend time and money on improving the access roads and getting more destinations. I don,t think any of the suggestions I have heard so far would make one bit of difference to the number of Pax. using the airport.
The best of the many suggestions that I have heard is Dr.Who international

Why re-name it? It won't make the product anymore or any less desirable. (Unless Ryanair fly in calling it Bristol North!) Seriously though, re-branding costs thousands! Surely they could spend that money better somewhere else!?

Name...

As I mentioned previously, only name for me is T-Rex International - not so much prehistoric, but a dated relic of the '70s.

My goodness some of the suggestions are crazy...and I SO do not want to work at the airport if it is called Gavin and Stacey!!!

Tom Jones airport would be not good either

Prince of Wales Airport would be quite good

New name!!

Hope I've not got too many of you hot under the collar with regards to this question

The best one to date has been Princess of Wales Airport..........BUT.

I have to agree with cyfartha, what a load of

Spend money of something that will 'improve' the airport, the journey from the M4 hasn't improved in over 25+ years, I can remember trying various different routes every weekend from the valleys many moons ago.

That was when you could travel at 'respectable' speeds without the curse of the cameras as well!!

I agree with you on this. Why bother renaming it. What a waste of money and time. I admit in some cases it works. The one that springs to mind straight away is John Lennon Airport. However, who can come up with someone so infamous from Wales? I'm Welsh and proud of it but....

No one has suggested Max Boyce International or Rhydian (X-Factor runner-up) Airport

Prince of Wales or Prince Charles Airport would be acceptable, and perhaps Owain Glyndwr, but please keep the celebs out of it. It'll end up being a laughing stock otherwise, not to mention a waste of money that could be spent on more important things

Access...

Bristol Based Taffy, I think access is a big issue, worthy of being sorted as you suggest, but CWL is in competition with BRS and the access there is probably the worst in the country - I've probably tried all the routes possible but the best is Barrow Gurney !! Say no more.... it's the destination routes / carriers that have to be prioritised... like BRS have done... EZY, FR.... then when all the above is up and running and, importantly, successful, perhaps the airport can play with names ??

Access to CWL isn't the best. But i think any new roads links or improvements are not only aimed at CWL, but at Barry and further Vale areas and St Athan.
Access from West Wales either means routing through Bridgend and the Vale, past Llantrisant. Carrying on the a48 to Five mile lane, or heading further up the M4, off at Junc 33 then back on yourself through the nightmare that is Culverhouse cross. None of these being a pleasant experience at certain times of the day.

As for the name. They tried cwlfly.com. Great promotion for the website, but thats about all it has done. Why they tried to brand the whole airport with this beats me.
Something simple and to the point, like the present 'Cardiff Wales Airport' is sufficient. It defines being Cardiff's Airport, and Wales' international gateway (if you can call it that)
I really dont see why it needs to be named after someone. There are very few places in Wales named after famous people - Stadiums, parks, landmarks, Bus/train stations, its not a common thing to see.
They could always play the Welsh card and rename 'De Cymru'. But how many people from abroad, or even some Welsh residents would really understand or care if its a Welsh name.
Better still, to drum up support they could create 'Ohwhatsnotoccuring.com' international. To see what the public want to see at the airport!

The whole idea of rebranding is a load of crap. Why spend the money in re-branding and renaming the airport when the money would be better utilised in other areas such as completing the departure lounge or upgrading the ILS. Another thing which could be done is whole of upstairs being transformed into departures which would allow more area for security along with possible larger area for retail and the chances for a selection of food airside rather than just landised since WH Smiths do not offer sandwiches.

The road issue is currently being soarted by the Government and a consultation is allready under way.

Being the mockery that is this so called international airport i can see it being called gavin & stacey airport along with nessa at info making announcements. (owww whats occuring, flight ww2001 departure to Edinburgh is now boarding at gate 1).

Oh noooooooo it's bad enough sometimes with announcements without the accent of Nessa!!!

Would love the whole of the first floor being departures, not many airports now have a large F&B offer landside, even our Brissol cousins have moved theirs airside now!!

(WHS do sell sarnies now...just for info...)

If only CWL could be a point of difference for regular travellers we could make a huge difference to the overall revenue (and TBH renaming is NOT the way to go...must be keeping the new marketing structure in jobs )

renaming airport

Have any of you considered where the "re-naming" ideas are being raised?

I reckon it is all media hype as they are desperate for something light hearted to talk about.

Every time the story pop's up, it seems to be originating from tabloids and then rolling on by the more credible media as they feel they are missing a big story.

But still no indication has come from the airport that a name change is actually going to happen. All I have interpretted from their quotes in the press is, "we are evaluating our brand's position and considering our options." This seems like a sensible thing for a business to do if it needs to use it's brand to help generate more business.

The press have said things like "spending loads of money" and talking about names and short lists, creating an almost story feeding frenzy.
I suspect they have spun it into a totaly different story to what is actually happening.

Same old story, don't always beleive what you read, especially if it originated in a British tabloid.

I`m not going to lie to you! Your flight is late

Seriously though, complete waste of money!! Will not make any difference to the attraction of the airport. Cheap seats with good destinations is the only answer surely? Marketing department+money=airlines.......

All this at a time when money is tight, take the airport fire service, they are about to take a ballot on industrial action over a 1.5% pay rise offer Sort out the important things rather than P***ing about.

Moan over.

Hey, im a long time lurker here but this name change lark has bought me out of the shadows for my first post.

Why on earth are they considering expensive re-branding when they havent even finished the new departure hall. I thought the whole reason behind that not being finished was down to lack of cash? Time after time bad budget decisions are being made, don’t even get me started on those stupid green and red ‘sign things’ they’ve put up everywhere.

The airport is falling to pieces in places, some doors do not even lock creating a BIG security risk and despite being told they do nothing! (One airbridge door in particular has been broken for a year!!)

Cardiff is not the worst airport but is could be so much better if the time was taken to ask its employees their opinions.
