Question

I also heard the rumour about FR. I was also told they approached CWL manangement and not the other way around. Reading FR site it would appear they could be laying Aircraft up this winter, I wonder if this is why they are speaking to CWL or am I adding 2 and 2 together and coming up with 5. Any thoughts.

It will be broken up in kemble, it's been sold to Transero of Russia for spares, I think it's in CWl to clear customs/exercise as kemble is a non commercial airfield.

The Cathay Pacific flight was a sight landing, CWL thought it would be good to cut the grass besides runway & taxiway - it was like a sandstorm !!!! Aircraft to depart to Kemble at 0830 in the morning.

Also had a British Airways Openskies B757-200 (with winglets) G-BPEK land just after it - this looks a posh aircraft for use on their new CDG-JKF route.

24th May looks even busier now with Astraeus & Flightline joining City Jet, Aer Lingus, BMI & Axis Airways...................no doubt we will have plenty more requests this week, surprising to see what airlines will be in this year considering there may be lack of suitable or available aircraft around for a Saturday in May !!!

Just checked the FID's system before I left and can now see the 24th May, Heineken Cup Final is going to be HUGE...........the list so far states the following airlines & aircraft

Aer Arann (AT7)
Aer Lingus (A330)
Aero Nova (SWM)
Astraeus (757)
Axis Airways (734)
BMI British Midland (321)
City Jet (AR8)
European Air Charter (732)
First Choice Airways (320)
Flightline (M83)
Futura Gael (734)
Highland Airways (J31)
Thomsonfly (757 & 733)
Travel Service Airlines (738)

Cant think of who else would have capacity, maybe Monarch, Flybe from Ireland and possibly Air Mediterrannee, Europe Air Post & Regional from France, will have to wait & see what happens this week.

98% of these coming from Ireland, only one flight listed for France yet, no doubt there will be lots more to add onto this list. Have heard that Echo & BAMC will be used to accommodate the larger traffic with Signature having Golf for thier traffic. Lets hope CWL will take as much as physically possible instead of refusing traffic and sending them to BRS.......from what I recall, Servisair & Aviance are now dab hands at these sporting events.

BA Openskies back at CWL this morning on training, this looks a real nice aircraft

24 May

Thanks to iflycwl for the info re Sat 24 May. Are all these flights making just the one stop or doing the usual shuttling back and forth ?

Any extras on Thurs 22 or Fri 23 ? There usually are for the supporters on packages - ie they have had to buy 2 or 3 nights accommodation just to be able to stay for one night ! That's how rugby mad these folks are !

Just as 2 years ago this is going to put CWL / Cardiff /Wales on the map and the repeat business from the event will do everyone some good.

Exclamation Summer Schedule.

Excellent, now that the summer schedule has started, its great to see the Vale roadworks team setting up camp at the Cwm Ciddy. We can now look forward to delays, tailbacks, temporary traffic lights etc etc.
Looks like they be there for a while, they have mobile yellow canteen, mobile yellow store box and a mobile yellow welfare/urinary set up in the pub car park. Its great to see the thought of this when they've had all winter long to do whatever they are doing!
Well done The Vale

I am very suprised that nobody has reported on the hawk emergency landing yesterday, suffered a bird-strike which pearced the shield.

Landed safely with both airport fire service and South Wales Fire and rescue service in attendance. Over an hour later 2 hawks did a fly-by and then landed at Cardiff and picked up their colleagues and shot off again.

Most expensive taxi i have ever seen.

I think a towbar head was being brought down from RAF Valley on the highland airways in order for it to be towed and have maintenance in BAMC.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

On the other note what a sight it was yesterday to see the 01 May and the airport looking like a proper airport and been a while since i have seen 2 x 757 land behind each other. Hope the airport gets busier

Ye i was on that shout, very impressive bird strike indeed! The most damage i`ve seen done to a fast jet canopy without going completely through. It managed to damage the MDC also, basically the explosive bulit into the canopy above the pilot.
RIP Mr Gull.

Airport will now not accept any additional flights for the 24th May as at maximum capacity.................can see a few additions since my last post. All we have seen lately is the Airport DM, Aviance Ramp Manager & Servisair 2nd manager juggling handling requests & trying to accommodate as many as possible !

Monarch Airlines (A330, A300 & A321)
Axis Airways (733)

It will be interesting to see the parking stands on this day - have heard that Servisair have a "pending" list with another 5-10 airlines all hoping to land at CWL !!!!!!!!!

Great to see Summer at last, it resembles an international airport again.......3 TOM aircraft plus the TCX A321 joining in with BE, WW, HWY, OHY & IOS so far this week

Winter 08/09

Iflycwl,

Do you know the days/times of the TCX Winter flights to TFS,FUE,LPA and ACE?
Their website is not the most easy to find basic information such as this.

It is all about margins and loadfactors Airlines can only operate routes and dsetinations if they make them money. Obvioulsy therse routes have not probided the company concerned enoughmargin inthe past and have probably had to sell their capacity last minute through cheap late deals.!!!

I have just booked a winter 08/09 TOM flight from CWL-FUE

CWL-FUE FUE-CWL 0705-1120 1220-1635 on Wednesdays

It looks like the TCX flight to FUE departs five minutes earlier at 07:00 compared to the TOM flight at 07:05, both on Wednesdays.

I know the Canary Islands are very popular during the winter but is demand strong enough for two weekly flights to FUE departing at virtually the same time?

It appears there is no TOM flight to FUE for Summer 09.

I think it's only in the past year or so that TOM have had flights to FUE from CWL in the summer. I think Airtours/Mytravel did it for a few years tho, but stand corrected if I'm wrong

Em0866 - Your right. My Travel operated the FUA flight in Summer 2005 & 2006. From 1998 (possibly before) to 2005, Futura operated the FUA flight on a Wednesday lunchtime.

During Winter 03/04 there was also a MYT & BY flight from FUE which landed at CWL at exactly the same time, very similar to TOM & TCX next winter.

It is common at some destinations to schedule flights closely together for these reasons:

1. Hotels often have set 'changeover days'. This means that when planning holidays, tour operators can take up or exchange accommodation with others without disrupting their flight programme.

2. If bookings are poor, the two flights can be 'consolidated' into one, allowing both tour operators to feature the destination, but sharing flights. It means that you don't get two half-empty planes flying the same route at the same time. It minimizes the disruption of doing this for the holidaymaker.

Thus most UK-FUE flights are on Wednesday and most UK-ACE flights are on Thursday. The same applies to the smaller Greek island destinations.

Tcx Winter 08/09

LGS6753,

I accept what you say and that indeed makes sense but some of these flights are doomed before they start -FUE for one.Unlikely demand to fill two jets mid week.
If that had been a saturday departure (which is also a UK flying day to FUE) I,for one, would have been on it and I am sure there are plently out there who have to fly weekend to weekend.Looks like ACE again for me this winter!
Great news with TCX at CWL but we need choice and variety to stop us going over the Bridge!
