gsm s09

In a way thats better because it prob means that there is a bigger demand and they need a full plane 4 them all. on the other hand it would be better if there was a tuesday fligt aswell!

Jet2 Belfast winter season

I have been checking Jet2 winter flights from Belfast.

Blackpool and Barcelona closed from end of Summer season, the summer only flights will be running until end of October as expected but it looks like the winter will only have

Leeds/Bradford 14 flights a week in each direction.
Malaga .. not released yet?
Murcia ... not on sale for winter? But timetable for summer 2009 listed.
Tenerife.. not released yet?
Gran Canaria.. not released yet?

Seems odd to not be in a position to have the complete winter timetable on sale by the mid-end of July?
And there certainly is not enough work for 2 let alone 3 aircraft on scheduled services from Belfast this winter. Last winter we had Blackpool, Prague, Murcia and Barcelona. Sad really so much cut backs.

Anyone have any more info on this ?

I would not be at all surprised if Jet2 and Flyglobespan join forces over the winter? What does anyone else think?

Rumours were, from either this site or rival, that Jet2 will only be operating LBA from Belfast this winter, plus the Saturday Chambery flight. This is in addition to the aircraft being used for mail flights.
Far as I can remember, though could be wrong, that LBA uses a Leeds based aircraft, so potentially no based LS aircraft this winter!!

SSV7068 TORONTO 11:15 11:05EXPECTED AT TS 862 TORONTO 11:15 11:05 EXPECTED AT

From BFS arrivals board

As SSV is flying for TS BFS/Toronto this summer is this one flight combined, because last week they seemed to arrive at different times.

Easyjet, "Belfast Challenging"

The airline said revenue performance was encouraging across its network of 356 routes, but added that Belfast and Madrid were ‘challenging’.
Full story at http://www.travelmole.com/stories/1130269.php

Not the best of news. Wonder is this directly related to Aer Lingus and Ryanair competing on many routes. Yields must be under pressure with the level of competition.

Bit of a PR own goal there. I think what they meant to say was that Belfast is challenging compared to previous years. It used to be very much a jewel in the crown before the competitive onslaught began. It's certainly not losing money but not making as much as it used to. The competition on the other hand...I shudder to think how much has been squandered by those who took on the orange machine . As predicted months ago, schedules are being reduced, routes being chopped. I hope the ££20 fare brigade enjoyed it while it lasted.

Zoom 09

Appears that Zoom flights now bookable for summer 09.
After a very quick search, Vancouver weekly and Toronto twice weekly from June onwards. Weekly up to the middle of June... As I say, was only a very quick search. Glad to see Vancouver back, after its drop for the winter (I presume as is still not on sale).

VLM Carrickfinn/Belfast/Rotterdam

I see that the VLM weekly charter from Carrickfinn to Rotterdam will land at 1pm in Belfast.

Does anyone know if this has been the case every week as I havent noticed this in before, the only VLM that I was aware of was the Sarturday Fokker flight.

Last Saturday it left for Jersey at 1703 and landed there at 1849 according to Jersey apt website. (1 Hr 46 mins!!)

Info on the Donegal/Rotterdam route: News & Events from Donegal Airport - Flight training available from Sligo Light Aviation Club

I was told that BE operated the Jersey/BFS flight on a Saturday. Every Sunday morning that I have looked at the arrivals board for BHD there has been an arrival from BFS 11.00am into BHD, which I thought was the aircraft used on the Jersey flight, there were no delayed BE flights the night before diverted to Aldergrove!!!!! I have noticed the VLM jersey flight into BFS on the internet, never actually saw it. Would it be a BE aircraft.

BE Jersey

gate 22

Thanks for the reply! The last few weeks the Jersey flight is definately a VLM F50. I did one week see the Flybe flight from BHD-BFS and back. I posted asked what that was and some one if I remember replied saying that it was a fearless flying programme flight, ie course for ppl scared of flying, but I dont think thats it. Maybe 195 training?

I live very near to BFS but never saw a BE ac coming in only once or twice as late night diversion from BHD.

Actually that Sunday morning BHD - BFS flight is a Bombardier sponsored charter flight which is listed as BHD - BFS (BE8400) but actually goes BHD - BHD. Its just the way they show it on the system. The flight generally carries school kids, first timers, fear of flying, special needs and cross community stuff! Pretty much if the weather is good its a VFR flight up around the Antrim Coast and back, with running commentary on whats happening and where we are. About 30 - 40 mins airborne. Done on the Q400 for obvious reasons!!!

The obvious reason being that if you get over the fear of flying in one of those things you`ll handle anything!! HA HA!!

Florida

From what I can remember, FlyGlobespan will operate weekly for summer 2009, but rather than the flight being shared with Glasgow, it will be a dedicated aircraft from Belfast. Van't be sure as to whether this service goes twice weekly over the peak end June/July period.
Thomas Cook have a weekly dedicated flight May to September, but over the peak holidays, think this goes up to 4 per week, that originate mainland UK and operate via BFS.
I know quite a few people that actually use CO via EWR to travel to Florida. Suppose its convenient for those not wanting to be based in Orlando necessarily.

As for actual loads, sorry, can't help...

Source: Slow take-off for Belfast/Heathrow route - Irish, Business - Independent.ie

A YEAR after its controversial decision to switch Heathrow flights from Shannon to Belfast, Aer Lingus has cornered just 10pc of the Belfast/London air market, new figures show.

...

An Aer Lingus spokesman, however, defended his airline's Belfast/Heathrow performance, saying market share "wasn't the main consideration" and stressing the route's improving performance.
Industry figures from the UK's Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) show Aer Lingus carried about 87,000 passengers on the Belfast/Heathrow route between January and May.

That figure compares with the 132,000 passengers who used Shannon/Heathrow over the same period in 2007, and is also less than 10pc of the total Belfast to London market, which came in at 888,000 for the five months.

Aer Lingus's sole competitor on the Heathrow route, BMI, meanwhile, carried almost 220,000 passengers during the same five months this year.
Correct me if I'm wrong on this, but that should be read bearing in mind that BD has (?) 8 BHD-LHR rotations every weekday versus 3 BFS-LHR?

10% of the passengers to / from London with what percentage of seats? I've counted 14 flights to STN / LUT / LGW this Monday with EZY, 4 to LGW with FlyBe, 8 to LHR with BMI, and 4 to STN with EI...

So a total of 33...which puts EI roughly on target with 10% of the market...

Hope they do well...the product is definitely the best to London at the moment.

Doesnt make sense. I would have thought their target would have been more pax to LHR than SNN had rather than a % of the market? Else why the move?
