Heard from a friend in Despatch up there, that the Towbar connection was damaged, therefore the only other option to push the A/C was with the large tugs that lift the nosewheel.

The info i have heard is that the bolts that hold the towbar attachment on the nose gear sheared shortly into the pushback. The towbar shear pin didn't break. Aircraft was fixed overnight and operated the schedule service this morning to DLM.

Must have been metal fatigue on the nosegear attachment, otherwise the shear pin on the tow bar would have broken first.

As MeNelty said a towbar less tug would have done the job, BJV have them, but BFS dosen't.

I hear the LCY is to be reduced rather than cut completely surprising, as the numbers using it seem to be on the low side. Even though the fares are expensive can it be profitable with such a small number of pax and will reducing frequency help long term?
I see also according to the ST that Ferrovial have appointed KPMG to manage the sale of city, see the link piece attached,

http://business.timesonline.co.uk/to...cle3867881.ece

The ST must be wrong because according to the email from BHD bosses a couple of weeks ago, the airport is not for sale.

New routes???

A few rumours doing the rounds at the minute (both from airline sources):

Aer lingus to start Belfast to Munich and Tenerife from October.
Jet2 to start Belfast to Orlando from October.

Regarding the Jet2 rumour... also heard that their BFS-based 757 was away recently getting ETOPS certification. I can confirm that G-LSAB has been away from BFS recently, but I have no idea about ETOPS certification requirements.

BFS to Munich would be an interesting one for Aer Lingus. Plenty of tourist potential (in either direction), ski-ing options in winter, and at last a German alternative to Berlin.

Time will tell.....

As I have been discussing on the London City thread, the CityJet schedule reduction is effective immediately, with virtually no notice, and the morning and afternoon departures are retained but not the evening one, giving departures from Belfast City at 0805 and 1445. Deleting the third evening departure is stupid, as this business route only has good loads morning and evening, between those times the flghts were just a filler. Furthermore many of the morning pax returned on the evening flight. Looking at the new times it looks like an attempt to run the route with just one crew per day.

Budapest seems to have been axed to make way for the route to Lanzarote. I had heard that Budapest was struggling. Quite surprising when you think it was the only route bar Heathrow where they didn't have a competitor.

On Tuesday and Saturday afternoons from 1 July to 27 September we are operating an extra 2 flights from Belfast to Faro.

On Thursday afternoons from 3 July to 23 October we are introducing an extra flight from Belfast to Malaga.
From aerlingus.com

Routes must be doing very well, shame about Budapest, flights now appear very sporadic throughout the summer.

Yes, there was. One Air Transat and one Skyservice, although i thought the SSV was just fuel stop before heading on to Zagreb. But it returned back to YYZ.

Aer Lingus Routes

Word is that the base is going from strength to strength. Lanzarote, Munich and Milan are all to be added from winter 08/09. Budapest is to be axed.

Improvements to the London Heathrow schedule may be coming too. Ie extra rotation and early morning departure, may come from aquiring a new slot!

I have travelled with them several times now and have never seen anymore than 100 heads aboard. Last trip had 24. I think 'strength to strength' is a little premature. It is good however to see some sensible route offerings appearing at last.

SkyService / Air Transat

Today was the first SkyService charter flight to YYZ since summer 2005, but this year they are operating for Air Transat. One flight on a Tuesday using a B752, Thursday flight was canceled for the whole season.

Air Transat (YYZ) have been affected by Zoom (YYZ) and Globespan (YHM) operating the same route, last years loads on the Air Transat were not good, majority of the time split loads with SNN or GLA.

The SkyService operating to Zagreb from YYZ starts in a few weeks on a Thursday operated by a B752. Stopping in BFS for fuel around 1000, and then on the return at 2200.

Aer Lingus 08/09

BELFAST International Airport has welcomed the arrival of three new routes as Aer Lingus today announced its winter schedule for 2008/09.
Munich, Milan and Lanzarote have been added to the network out of Belfast bringing to 34, the number of direct scheduled international destinations available from the international airport.
Airport managing director, John Doran, said; "We are pleased to further enhance Northern Ireland's economic potential.
"The addition of Italy's second and Germany's third cities to the extensive international route network from Belfast International Airport signifies more landmark progress and adds further substance to the Aer Lingus' route network from this region.
"At a time when there has arguably never been a greater need for companies here to exploit their export potential we are giving them access to Europe that has never been available before."
Belfast International will see almost 6 million passengers use the airport this year and is in the middle of a multi-million pound development programme which has already increased the apron space for the addition of future aircraft and which will see a gradual refurbishment of the terminal building.
"We are giving Northern Ireland, indeed the northern half of the island, the international airport it deserves - more destinations for those who fancy a holiday or a weekend break and for the economy, an economic dividend derived from the potential created by the further expansion of the route network as well as the many commercial activities which feed off an international airport.
"We are very excited about the future and we anticipate continued route development over the next six months."
Along with the new routes additional weekly flights to Malaga and Rome have also been added. The other destinations making up the winter timetable are London Heathrow (three times daily), Paris (daily), Amsterdam (daily) and Barcelona (four days weekly). Flights to Munich and Milan will operate on three days a week (and can be booked from Monday, May 12) and Lanzarote on two days a week.
Anticipate continued route development over the next 6 months... Could it be direct USA??
