I'm sure if BHD offered a good deal jet2 would not hesitate to move, after all they are treated second rate in many respects in comparison to ezy and ei, with regards to the freight....remember gill air used to operate pax out of bhd during the day ....ferry to Bfs and do freight at night!

Stranger things have happened in the NI airline industry in recent years, don't rule out anything!

A good point ards boy! During the winter there wouldnt be much need to position the aircraft back and forward seeing as it does next to nothing during the day, except for LBA on Friday afternoons and couple of pax flights at weekends. Summer is a completely different story however

I once heard that the Royal Mail contract alone pays for 1 x 737 and any pax flights the aircraft operates during the day generates extra income for the aircraft. Same goes for Titan. The mail alone pays for the 146 operation.

Im sure BHD can offer Jet2 a cushy enough deal if they want, but i doubt theres enough stand capacity for an couple of additional based aircraft.

Jet2 at the city would be nice, but as pointed above, there wouldnt be any stands for them to use. The airport is already crowded with the stands used up each night, and both Manx2 aircraft on the Victoria Apron.

This will only get worse when the Baby moves in for the STN flights, probably a Flybe will be remote parked too, the airport dont seem to be doing anything about it either.

Also, as pointed above, with the night curfew, cargo ops from Jet2 wouldnt be possible at the city, but it is a massive form of revenue for them. Some of the BFS-LBA flights, if they get the usual 60 or so pax on them, its just extra money, and a way to keep linked up to their head base.

Same for Titan, i spoke to the head of their fleet a while ago, theyre holding onto the 146s and older 737s because there isnt really anything else thats newer and can take on the combi roles that they do

yup still in the old hangar at Aldergrove, though they now use the old Helicopter hangar at Ards, theyre going to do most or all the light/single engine stuff down there, there was a nice N-reg King Air outside it recently

I think there's more to relocating than just the city airport offering airlines a deal, and that in itself is not that easy. Citys passenger numbers have gone well in recent years but their financial performance is not so good. Their last published accounts, 2009, when FR were operating showed profits down to just over £400k. Having invested some £132.5m can't imagine the owners, who have already written the cost down, are that keen on 'deals' particularly when the airlines don't seems too keen to stay after the introductory offer ends. Some airlines may like the flexibility the comes with longer opening hours and longer runways.

airport66

I hear from some people who work at BFS that senior management want to close the place at night that could certainly influence a decision on jet2 position at Aldergrove. It seems it may well be on the cards the amount of business they will chase away when that happens talk about bad management if it does.

The above is true, they have stated that they are thinking of closing at night. Can't see it happening though. TNT would have to go to Dublin etc and BFS simply can't afford to lose any more business at the moment. Its just a threat from the useless management up there. BFS staff are pushing for a pay increase and this kind of thing is the managements response (amongst other threats).

They are trying to scare the staff into thinking that their jobs are unsafe and they know by doing this no-one will push for a pay increase.

I dont think anyone is stupid enough to swallow this nonsense from Mr D and company.

Anyhow, its probably busier at night than it is between 1000 and 1300 during the day !!!!

Surprised it took that long for that to come on here as it started flying around a month ago, im impressed... was started by someone in operations, who either misunderstood something or well i dont know what they were thinking. It was one of the options on the cards for saving money, but as stated they would end up losing money if they went ahead with that, after all the RM contract has the Titan 146 operating throughout the night as well as other small aircraft, to close the airport between the rumored times of 2230 and 0600 would more or less make the cargo city useless, theres quite a bit of time sensitive items that come off the cargo flights which need delivered by 0900 etc etc... is a scare tactic

Started a month a go? Heard that rumour 18 months ago! If it's only bubbling around the ramp now it must of been a slow news day!

Yes it has been kicked around for quite a while, but recently they have been talking about it more. They went as far as mentioning it on the staff newsletter this month.

Sorry MontyP, perhaps i should have said, started a month ago for those who dont work directly for the airport or to have spoken to someone who would spill the beans. It bubbled around roughly a month ago, some staff even went to the duty managers at the airport to find out if it was true, which at the time it was denied it was happening but it was looked at in the past

When did the two threads combine again?

It's as bad as the Eglinton thread here......and no doubt they will be along in a minute.

Exactly Dog in the Park... It's a Northern Ireland topic and we like to wander wildly of topic. I don't mind all the inter-thread babbling! But perhaps we should just have one thread for the three airports!

BHD allow the first post free but charge if you return within 30 minutes! How are baby doing at city, has performance improved, they were c..p at BFS, with delays, cancellations and combining flights. Birmingham to East Midlands to Belfast was happening too much in the end.
Are things better now that they are at BHD?
