Seen G-STBA in the flesh today for the first time...most impressive. Got me thinking about the remaining 747 replacement, and whether the 77W has any real competition.
It looks like the A350-1000 is not going to match the 77W in terms of outright capability, not to mention the 777NG is also in the works somewhere. So BA can buy additional 77Ws now, and harvest the benefit for the next 10 years...thereafter the 777NG may come into play, or the A350-1000'ER' might be in contention. So when will we see additional 77Ws ordered? And in what numbers?
The bigger question is whether the A358 / A359 will replace the 772ERs...or will the 787-9 / 787-10 fit the bill?

Personally I think, financially for the company, this is by far the best piece of business they have ever done:

It's not at all clear whether they are launching a new livery as part of the brand relaunch. Perhaps they might want to settle with BASSA before every sign, every logo, every badge and every piece of livery needs replaced?

UK bases for BA crews .
Will British airways ever return to have crew bases again at Glasgow/Edinburgh or the other airports that they closed as bases. Or is that not allowed now.
I was thinking, surely it costs more money for them on a yearly basis to be night stopping all the crews in hotels and all the other costs they have to pay the crews to night stop at hotels.
Surely it makes sense to save money.
Any views on this welcome.

Unless you are going to always nightstop the regionally based crews back at their home base then you're going to be paying hotel costs for them somewhere else around the network.
Not saying it won't happen, but with BA being very Londoncentric I don't think it'll happen any time soon.

Diversion to Shannon BA239
239 LHR-BOS turned around about 200 miles of SW Irish coast. Fuel dumping and diverting to Shannon. Now on base leg for a 12 mile final - seems like technical problem

British Airways 747s
Hi there
Just wondering if anyone knows if BA have any further plans for re-calling their remaining 747s stored at Victorville. G-BNLU arrived Cardiff end of March and will return to service after maintenance. According to Jethro's website G-BNLG is due to return to Cardiff from Victorville on June 20th. I believe that would leave 3 aircraft left in storage. I am aware that G-BNLB and G-BNLC are being scrapped at Cardiff.
I feel they may be recalling all of them in time as advance schedule plans for Winter 2011 seem to show a number of routes returning to 747 ops rather than 777.
Any other news concerning their fleet plans would be welcome.
BA Gatwick seem to to be having a positive summer so far. Any further plans there?
As always many thanks for any information.
V.

By co-incidence not long after my post some other forums began to discuss the BA 747s lol!! According to the' BA Source' G-BNLG has been moved at Victorville and is being made ready for ferry flight to Cardiff. Maybe as each returning 747 completes its D check another one is recalled. We shall wait and see.

British Airways News
I hope it was ok to start this new thread. I was looking for the previous one and couldn't find it. I apologise for any error on my part.
I was just wondering if anyone has any news about BA fleet plans or possible new services. For a major UK carrier it seems to get little coverage on here. I do manage to find news at 'Airliners net' and 'The BA Source' but I do value the views and comments of the knowledgeable posters on these forums too!!
With another Boeing 747 completing a major check at Cardiff for return to service after storage at Victorville any news of the 3 747s that remain there? I know that the two that never made it out of Cardiff are in the process of being scrapped but is there a possibility that the fleet will get to 55? It should be back at 52 in the next few weeks. I know a couple of 777-300s are due for delivery later this year but even so scheduling does look tight. Been a few cancellations recently when a long haul aircraft has gone tech. In the past there seemed to be more slack to allow another aircraft to cover. I appreciate this can be expensive but it is not a good idea to 'delay' the premium traffic that seems to be improving the fortunes of BA.
As always all news and opinions appreciated.

Hope this info is of some help, some of it is second hand info.
BA do not plan to return G-BNLA or G-BNLD to service. Last I heard G-BNLH was planned to remain in storage for at least the S11 season.
G-BNLG returned from VCV last month and is currently undergoing pre return to service maintanance.
G-STBD is due to be delivered in October with G-STBE arriving in December and G-STBF will join the fleet in February.
The summer schedule remains tight through until September.
Looking ahead BA have already made a number of cuts to frequencies during it's W11/12 timetable. During the Winter BA will begin the refurbishment of a number of there 767 and of there non AVOD 777's.
At LGW a decision on the shorthaul fleet replacement is rumoured to be iniment. The aircraft ordered will all be delivered new to LGW. The order is almost certainly to be awarded to airbus. With a mix of the A318 and A319's rumoured to be the likely replacement for the 737-400

For shorthaul, were A318's not supposed to be heavy dead ducks ?
All very well for commonality but if they are heavy and not efficient as other airlines have found) why not consider Embs for Gatwick Mainline ?

i can only guess that some A318's could be ordered to expand the LH services ex LCY as these services are crewed ex LGW, so perhaps they could be delivered in all J config.
an all airbus order for LGW would be good, however i would of thought a mix of A319 and A320 to allow capacity to be matched to demand would be ideal ?

There would be a good case for moving G-EUPA (the oldest A319) and her sisters from LHR and sending the new aircraft to T3 / T5 but that's NOT what I think Gatters deserves after losing so much I think. Fingers crossed.

If they were going to go down the all J model I suspect it would be out of LHR, the current focus and business model at LGW is more leisure, in both long and short haul.
it could well get put under a BA order for LGW as the LCY services on the Airbus are crewed by Gatwick staff.
