BA upgrades Kangaroo Route to new Boeing 777, shifts to Heathrow T5 - Flights | hotels | frequent flyer | business class - Australian Business Traveller
Rumours abound of B777-300ERs to Sydney and a move from T3 into T5. I suspect LHR-BKK will be moving too?

We all have an opinion ey !
I agree NQY is not a business route and I'm terribly sorry for mentioning it
And I'll try my very best not to annoy people by mentioning it for a while.
I trust that all domestic and European flights ex LHR are purely high yield business routes ?

Regarding the closure of the Gatwick-Manchester route,I believe we need to keep things in perspective here. Airlines start and drop routes all the time. Most of the low-cost airlines do so more often than the legacy carriers, but are careful only to announce new routes rarely mentioning the ones they are dropping. British Airways have announced the closure of the Gatwick-Manchester route for their own commercial reasons. If another airline believes they can make money on that route they will take it up, if not they wont. Its that simple.
As for the BA Gatwick base itself I believe it will continue. They will probably develop more long haul leisure destinations which may include overspill for some routes also served from Heathrow (Las Vegas is an example). The short haul network will continue to serve destinations that require frequency and competitive fares aswell as those niche seasonal destinations that can fill both Club and Economy cabins. This may also include destinations already served from Heathrow where demand for leisure travel is greatest as well as demand for transfer to BA long haul. (Examples being Barcelona, Nice and Rome).
In time newer aircraft will arrive. BA Gatwick will never be huge but will provide a big enough presence that suits London's second airport. BA still carries 5million passengers a year to and from Gatwick. Somehow I don t believe they will be willing just to give them away.
So one route down maybe a couple of new ones to be announced. Hardly the end of life as we know it.
i have posted a similar post elsewhere. I hope thats ok.

Just wondering if Easyjet or BE would look at this route.(Gatwick-Manchester)
I know that BE are unhapy with Gatwick charges but maybe a thrice daily 118 seater E195 would work especially if they had codeshares.
Easyjet Airbuses may be too big, but there again maybe lower fares would stimulate demand.
Anway we shall see in the next few days.

Domestic routes are pretty much becoming less feasible over time anyway, mostly due to the government's stance on air travel, but I agree with Skipness (Manchester thread), that GIP do have to be a bit careful with their charges, otherwise they'll only shoot themselves in the foot. However, I don't agree that EDI / GLA will follow soon...... well not too soon??

Heathrow to Abu Dhabi
I am flying from Heathrow to Abu Dhabi in a few weeks. I think the airline type is a Boeing 777-236, please correct me if I am wrong.
Which are the best economy seats? (with the exception of the extra leg room seats) . I notice the last row (35?) has twin seats by the window. Are these going to be uncomfortable due to the toilets / gallery behind?
Thanks for any tips or suggestions.

Looked on seatguru but the aircraft plan does not match the seat layout in my bookings on the BA website.
If anyone is familiar with this aircraft type & has any suggestions or comments please let me know.
Thanks again.

Try The BA Source - you can look on their seat diagrams, and also view which specific aircraft fly the routes.

There was a suggestion on the Cork forum a few weeks ago that BA were sniffing around as to a possible long awaited return to Ireland's southern gateway.
Do any of the BA specialists on here think there may be anything to the suggestion or is it morely likely to continue as is with the Aer Lingus/British Airways codeshare?
My feeling is that it would be a huge shot in the arm for Cork though it has been a great pity that the old Cork flight number, the BA838/9, has now been allocated to a Heathrow Dublin service.
I guess that means we will just have to return to the Albion 670/671!!
Thanks & greetings from Cork!
