Im sure about a year ago Milan was said. it was at the time when flybe said they were looking to base 4 aircraft at NCL.

However i do think BHX, ABZ and CWL routes would succeed, and perhaps a route to the Brest peninsula.
Just need BHX to happen (the only one i would be ever likely to use) and my prediction would have come true.

BHX is a slight oddity as it is so marginal in terms of time.

When I used to do it fairly frequently I worked out that the train vs flight only saved me about 25 minutes. By the time I got to airport, checked in, wait at airport, take flight, wait for luggage, get train/taxi into Birmingham City Centre there isn't much in it!

That said, people still use the flight but would BE really be interested based on the pax number T3 get?

I have known family, friends and work colleagues needing to go Newcastle through work but soon as the Eastern quote gets to the finance dept the train wins each time.

I agree that 312 seats a day (it would have to be double daily) is a lot to fill but with flybe's base fares a lot cheaper, I assume that there would be more takers than Eastern. However, whether it it would be enough to make it profitable operation, I have no idea but it is one route that would not be a surprise.

DL93 Onur Air have a very large programme of flights scheduled to operate through NCL this year, using a variety of aircraft. The provisional programme is below, but things do change and the charterers who use OHY tend to add extra flights as the season nears to starting, depending on how sales are progressing I presume!?

Thu BJV-NCL-BJV 0915/0815 A321 operates peak period only
Thu DLM-NCL-DLM 1925/1825 A321
Fri BJV-NCL-BJV 1000/0900 A300
Fri AYT-NCL-AYT 2145/2045 MD88
Fri DLM-NCL-DLM 2200/2100 A300
Sat DLM-NCL-DLM 0940/0840 A321
Sun BJV-NCL-BJV 0920/0820 A321
Sun ADB-NCL-ADB 1000/0900 MD88
Sun BJV-NCL-BJV 2000/1900 A300
Sun DLM-NCL-DLM 2010/1910 A300

Obviously aircraft types are provisional, but interesting to see 2 A300 movements within 10 minutes of each other on sunday evenings. Last year flights started with smaller aircraft and capacity increased towards peak season.

FLYBE

All interesting comments and theories on route exspansion - hopefully statements from BE will come true, small regional aircraft on city to city routes could very be financially viable from NCL, which is still in essence a regional airport. I definately think they'll compete on virtually every route with T3, though T3 seem to be up for the fight! ABZ will most certainly go twice daily, with leisure orientated and european routes operating during the day, therefore maximising the use of aircraft. It would be nice to see new routes opened up, away from the traditional low cost services to ALC, AGP and PMI!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The MD of Thomas Cook Group says for summer 2009 they are moving away from spanish dest and offering more choice to turkey and north africa dest.

Hopefully something here for NCL? (morroco?)

Thanks for the info on the OHY timetable, should be intresting too see how servisair cope with 2 A300's if that happens!

flybe have a golden opp here, if they can spare the a/c and have the time and the commitment too NCL then i can see either eastern moving out,or biting the bullet and dramatically lowering their charges its not gonna be worth it for them when they charge 300+ for a return compared too a min of £60-80 rtn on flybe, companys and indivuals would pick that hands down, could even do a stop over at a hotel which is what about 70.00 tops a night, and its still working out cheaper than Eastern. also in view of passenger comforts with flybe handbaggage come with not, their a/c are not in away way as space restrited as eastern,

so many perks flybe can offer.... lets hope they show the commitment too ncl and get some a/c's in here asap

2 Dash 8's in paintshop at EXT now being spraytanned orange, and having smallest possible landing gear doors fitted to in order to show off as much undercarriage as possible. Large hoop earrings replacing props, and Flybe logo will be supplemented by an ethnic tattoo around the fuselage below the fin, and a dolphin next to the no.2 engine.

does anyone have any idea how sales on the new WOW services from NCL-NQY/PLH are going ?

would guess if sales go well BE could add that route as well as they have done with GLA

BE to NQY would be ok, however I think it has been mentioned somewhere before that the big dash would have problems operating in & out of PLH due to the runway length.

sorry should of been clearer!

WOW have launched and are selling tickets NQY/PLH-NCL & i was wondering how well the ticket sales are going??

BE wouldnt operate into PLH as the Q400 isnt able to get in or out and obviously neither is the newer jets that BE operate.

was just curious as BE have started selling x3 weekly NQY-GLA a very short time after WOW announced the same service only daily and via PLH

seems like BE are targeting NQY for rapid expansion so it wouldnt surprise me to see NCL added to NQY fairly shortly, obviously assuming its selling!

Pretty certain the Q400 could operate into PLH - the runway is only marginally shorter than GWY where it operates with no problems at all at 1200m - but obstacle clearance is another matter altogether. However, even with one engine out, the Q400 has comparable or better performance than the 300 with both engines, so I don't see why it isn't technically possible.

Unhappy Newcastle a 3rd world airport

When will NCL sort out the staff car park as there are so many potholes? Worse than Niarobbery in Kenya.

How many times have you been stuck in the arrivals hall as the revolving door is stuck shut?

When will we be given a dedicated staff channel through security?

When will the rubbish that festoons the fences be removed?

When will passengers be given timely and accurate information which gate they will be boarding their aircraft?

When will the drains on stand 1 be sorted out? In summer it can smell worse than Cairo.

When will there be an efficient "ambulift" service provided?

One can go on and on.

I think St Nick has pretty much hit the nail on the head there!

We will still be complaining about this in 6 months time though, although I am about to take the car parking thing up with the car park company via my solicitor as im convinved its the reason why my car needed new suspension last week (and its only 1yr old!) its a complete Pi*s take! and yet we all sit back and take it
