Summer 08
I'm going out of NCL next Sept on Thomsonfly (or whatever they're likely to be called then) and am wondering if anyone has an idea what aircraft they will be using.
Long shot, but after FlyJet, I've had enough of tired 757's and hoping for something built this century.

You are unlikely to have anything this century. Currently i think plans for newcastle are 737-300 and 757-200s. Poss a 767 if ur going to florida/cancun/pop.

IainB,
All depends where your travelling to. Nothing wrong with there 757s and there 737 little G-THOO has not missed a beat all summer great little 733.
Flyjets 757s were bad because they were not taken care of properly.

The TCX618L was actually an inbound flight routing ALC-MAN-NCL, was just put on the wrong board.
On another note rumour has it we'll be getting a nice shiny new 737-800 for next summer instead of the 733, delivered direct from seattle.

Thomsonfly from NCL
Our hols take us to Dalaman this time, so I guess it'll be a 757. Would a 737 have the range to do it?
No probs with that, as long as they work properly. We went with Flyjet three times in the last couple of years and got lucky with tech probs, others were not so lucky. As has been said many times on this forum and others, the crews were ace, the planes less so.

EZY buys GB airways
Wounder if EASYJET will move a few A320/1's from lgw and man to other bases around the UK?
Could we see EZY take on JET2 with the TFS and LPA from next summer?

Interesting story about the ex-CEO in today's Chronicle
Quote:
"The accounts are expected to reveal that “one-off, exceptional bonuses’’ totalling £8,547,000 were payable to two directors in 2006 in connection with the re-financing deal."

Unlikely that DL is implicated if he is still in office.
From the report and interview on the BBC last night the Airport (GM) said that they were initiating legal action against Parkin and the late Finance Director (his estate?).
It also stated that the Chair of the Board had resigned; not surprisingly if the Board 'missed' the fact that 2 directors sleeved £8+m! Unfortunately local councillors and business rarely mix successfully and this is another episode that highlights the dangers of the 'lead by the hand' management style required when dealing with these people.
What chance of recovering the money? Probably little.

Yes. You are right , I hadn't seen the story in the paper nor did I see the news. DL is probably innocent of partaking in that particular scandal. However, I doubt he was unaware of the goings on though given his close relationship with both of the named parties particularly the late Finance Director with whom he shared a number of other businesses built(?) from policies initiated by Parkin. As for the Chair person, I see that she is also named on the board of the sinking Northern Rock!

You know we could go on discussing this unsavory episode all day. What it illustrates that when there was £160 Million up for grabs & all the greedy Local Authorities saw no further than what share they were getting out of the 'pie' as a windfall to balance their own budgets, they over looked the bigger picture as to where the remainder was going and the actual effect on NCL's finances going forward. Clearly Mr P is shown to be a 'prima facie' beneficiary of these payouts & that it is this issue which has caused his subsequent fall from grace. It is now up to the courts to decide as to what now transpires. As for NCL's position in all of this, there is 'no free lunch' and the £160 Million, did not materialise out of thin air, but has been borrowed and has to be paid back along with considerable other borrowings that were in effect the 'new finance package'. What this means to NCL is that instead of having funds available for much needed improvements to the infrastructure, these funds are being diverted to service and repay the debt that has now been taken on board.

Heard some interesting banter and rumours yesterday evening and wonder if anyone can enlighten me.
Returned as SLF from BRS mid PM just as Emirates was departing and chaos ensued.
No steps to a/c as we were early and I think just caught the guys on the hop slightly but EZY had another a/c departing from the same gate so when steps arrived about 15 mins after arriving on stand we had to wait another 10whilst the gate was cleared before disembarking. During the chat the cabin crew mentioned that they have been told that EK's stand and the two adjacent can't be used 90 mins either side of scheduled arrival, stay and departure by EK.
This seems a bit bizarre and they claim this is the source of all customer malcontent at the moment. Also claimed to know that Jet2 are planning a big expansion but as usual had no specifics. The whole stand thing seems a bit wide of the mark but can anyone elaborate ?
Thanks
