It doesn't add up ! Surely the incremental costs of EWR parking fees, coupled with the costs of a 3 night 'Beano' for a full complement of crew, not to mention the loss of alternate revenue, would seriously erode any financial justification for running such trips in the first instance. The case put forward that there is not an alternate revenue source for surplus 75's if it were true would suggest that JET2's business plan is itself suspect and that perhaps 'desperate times require desperate measures'.
However it does mean one crew can do the out and back trip and have their required rest period in NYC.

airhumberside, you could send any of those 757s from LBA/NCL/MAN to the Canaries over that period and fill them, and if you can't fill them, then your in trouble.

Come on people look at the whole picture before you make yourselves look daft and this post is not aimed at anyone in particular.
Why do you think that every low cost operator and charter airline loses money by the wheelbarrow full in a 6 month period in the winter months?
I would guess that every charter or low cost airline operating in the UK would if they could just park up for the winter and not fly if it meant that they would break even for those months.
It is supply and demand, to much supply and not enough demand for seats.
It will not cost Jet2 a great deal more in parking in EWR than in the UK, the only extra will be the crew costs in EWR. Now for the lost revenue, as l said previously what revenue, you only have to look mid week in the winter at MAN and LGW to see lines of aircraft parked for a number of days at a time.
My own airline in the winter with a fleet of 32 aircraft had on some days only 7 or 8 flying, so you can see where l am coming from and for info Easyjets loss was over £40 million for the last winter 6 month period.

the Dubai pax figure for April was 12,525 pretty much in line with every month this year.
Healthy increase on Copenhagen at 2,738 and Aberdeen well up at 2,736 with the increased frequency and Flybe entry.
Cardiff was shown as 10 pax....MUST be a mistake.

12525 pax for EK during April which has 30 days in it. Would mean that 417.5 passengers werw carried daily. An Airbuss A330-200 ONLY CARRIES 278 PASSENGERS.

I do believe there was an incident surrounding an airbridge and an aircraft this week in NCL, think it was Thomsonfly?! Alledgedly only minor though
Summer season off to a good start by all accounts, minimal belt failures and queues not as substantial as last year, maybe the fact that a few charter units have been lost has been a slight benefit to problems which occurred last season. Still a shame to see reduction in certain flights, but long haul charters seeming to prove popular!
