What im hearing is that LTE are rescuing pax from Faro to Prestwick and they are to do the PMA flights tomorrow if the MD is not back
The Slovak B757 is at Manston ( so I hear ) and is operating the Faro outbound ( should have been today ) very early in the morning after crew rest

Relevance of posting about grass and weeds!
"Meanwhile, the grass grew higher and the weeds grew longer. And while they were all talking about the glorious future, it turned into a patch of derelict scrub. The End"
You boring man.......the grass will be cut and the weeds will be sprayed....thats what happens at airports...and in peoples gardens etc
move along ....theres nothing to see!

'Move along.......there's nothing to see!'
You are so right!
In the meantime in today's Telegraph Business section it seems
that there is going to be some building at the Manston Business Park.

Business Park
Yes......there is going to be an engine overhaul company moving onto the site.
No......the article in the telegraph is nothing as all to do with that. The full article, if you read it, is all about millions of pounds of investment from China being invested at the business park but no mention of the airport

Grass = Hay
Manston has a policy of letting the grass grow long. It puts birds off landing on the airfield as they like to be able to look around when they're grounded. Local farmers do indeed use large tractors a couple of times a year to mow the airfield and produce hay. You can see it stacked all over the airfield if you happen to be driving through at the right time.

GRASS
Just to educate some of the great unknowing, grass on an airport is in most cases, a managed commodity. There are contractors who will mow the product and use it as hay or silage, thus generating income for the airport.
There is also the question of bird control. Most birds do not like walking in grass that is too deep for them to poke their heads above it to look for danger, so grass is normally deliberately allowed to grow tall enough to hide the birds completely. That helps to prevent birds from gathering on airfields and is an aid to the prevention of bird strikes, thus aiding air safety.

That's amazing, we must have been typing almost identical posts at the same time. Nice to see confirmation of my information from an independent source.

Grass
Who would have thought that plain ordinary green grass would manage to stir up catflaps so much.
Here is a link to some CAA info on the subject of keeping grass long. Plenty more info out there if you look. As for the 'polluted' grass being fed to cattle you'll have to talk to a farmer.

Exactly the same haymaking operation goes on at our place and a nice little earner it is to.
Our contractor used to sell it nearly exclusively to the stables at Newmarket, that was until it was found to contain a miniscule amount of "aviation pollutant" (fuel to you and I).
Since then, it's had to sold elsewhere, ironic though, you'd have thought it would have made the neddies go faster....

Poor catflaps.
Obviously not a son of the soil. I would rather eat meat from cattle grazing off hay or silage grown next to Manston's runway than silage cut from
fields next to the M 25!
A couple of flights a week is hardly Chernobyl!
In any case I should imagine most of it goes to feed the horsey world, so if anyone should worry about their cutlets, it's the French!!

GRASS
Catflaps
Just to satisfy you that grass management is not a figment of my 30 years aviation experience, have a look at the CAA website. Go to "Publications" and download CAP 772 Birdstrike Risk Management for Aerodromes. As they say, read all about it.

Totally agree - used to work with the contractor who did LPL and MAN (amongst many other places) and then turned the grass into animal feed (and claimed an EU subsidy for doing so...).

o, and catflaps. I thought you was in the know with how airports are run.
You continually suggest the management at is getting it all wrong and how certain deals are hearsay to the supporters.
What planet are you from and rubbish do you talk!

OK, let us put this into perspective.
The majority of us would hope that Manston does well and succeeds as a commercial enterprise.
The "Old and cynical" amongst us have seen airlines and airports come and go, I personally would love to see any UK aviation enterprise do well and be a success, not particularly for the owners, but mostly for the local people.
I for one, as has been said, would love to be proved wrong, but I can't see that the current owners can continue to pump money in with no realistic return in the forseeable future.
Infratril are not Ryanair,BP or BAT, they don't have unlimited funding or the ability to cross subsidise and I think we have to realistic.
Lets hope all will come to fruition and keep the place going, perhaps, unlike the previous hopeless shower, the current Investors are in a position whereby it would cost more to pull out than stay there for the long term, I don't know, nor do I suspect does anyone here.
Good luck anyway.
