And I dont think Lydd will become an airport
Lydd is an airport, and it has regular scheduled flights. It may be small, but it is an airport

If it will grow or not, is what you mean I guess?

Lydd

Deedave

Lydd is a pig to get to!!

I have had the unenviable pleasure of driving from Canterbury to Lydd Airport on many occassions and the journey is subject to a great many problems. Tractors, single carriageways and traffic in Ashford with the new 2 way circuit make the journey time very unpredictable but allow at least 1 hour.

Weevherditb4

From the horses mouth the damage to equipment caused by the lightning strike was paid for by insurers to the tune of 1.5Mill. I was even given the contact to assist in the confirmation of my claim. No smoke and no mirrors.

I have also driven from Canterbury to Lydd on a number of occasions, and have found the journey satisfactory.
I am happy to allow people to investigate this for themselves, either by making the journey themselves or checking AA route planner.

Are you?

It is amazing that people are still plugging Manston like mad when after 8 years of full time market testing, it still operates at tickover level.

Also amazing that these same people dismiss Lydd as a failure when it has had no contemporary market testing at all.

BTW - Manston on the front page of Isle of Thanet Gazette this evening.

I'm surprised that the link in my previous post was edited by the Moderators and the link removed, however they must do as they see fit.

The press release was actually issued by Kent International Airport and is available on their website. Amongst other things, it imparts their take on the flights which were cancelled.

Lydd

deedave

I am sure there are variations in travelling time based on time of day and even time of year as there seem to be increased farm vehicles on the road in Summer. I can only report on my journeys which semm to have been painful getting to Lydd but not as bad in the return direction.

AA Route planner is great, and I use it frequently, but it assumes ideal driving conditions and therefore for the reasons above it is rarely accurate in terms of travel times. It does however quote 49 mins from canterbury to Lydd so my "allow at least an hour" statement is not far wide of the mark.

Some other times for you

to Lydd
from Maidstone 53, From Ashford 30 from Canterbury 49
to MSE
from Maidstone 57 from Ashford 46 from canterbury 24

I live in North Canterbury so when travelling to MSE I go towards Whitstable and down the Thanet way, Dual Carriageway all but the last mile about 20 mins all told to be in the terminal.

All of this however is totally irrelevent unless one of the airports actually has some reason to travel ie flights!

For goodness sake gentleman can we stop this tit for tat moaning Lydd and MSE are 2 different airports and it is obvious on this forum that some of you do not want MSE to work. WELL GET OVER IT because fingers crossed it will and then maybe all you negative people out there will stop moaning, but then again you will probably find something else to moan about.
Why cant some of these posts be more upbeat than down beat. So what if there was an article writen in the local rag. It was only a Thanet paper not the Telegraph. Have you not read things in news papers before and thought they were totally one sided and not got the true facts. Please people start using your brains a bit.
As I have said before people work at this airport who have homes and families and they must get fed up with reading these negative posts and wondering if their jobs are safe. Give them support not negativity all the time. It is not LGW or LHR or LYD it is MSE

Hi all,

I am new to this forum, and this is my first post, so please be gentle...

I have been reading the threads about Kent International Airport (MSE) with lots of interest because I have a desire to be able to set-up an airline, and have considered KIA as a potential base for my operations, so I felt that I should add my opinion. As I have said before, this is my first post, so I do apologise in advance if any of my opinions are the same as others, but I am merley contributing.

So, what do I think of KIA/Manston/MSE?

Well, I think it does have a lot of potential to become a decent airport. The South-East region of England is crying out for a regional airport, and Kent International seems the most logical choice to me.

Lydd, which markets itself as London airport (dont know why?), does actually have a bigger target market, however, it only has 2 check-in desks and can only handle a 737 size aircraft, as the recent trials will show. Manston on the otherhand has 6 check-in desks and can already accomodate 767 type aircraft, which opens up a whole range of possible destinations, including the USA and the Carribeaean.

At the end of the day, it all boils down to supply and demand...if there is demand for air travel from the region (which clearly there is!), all we need now is for someone (hopefully me!) to be able to supply it.

If anyone is interested in helping me to set-up an airline, please feel to get into contact with me via PM or e-mail.

Regards,

Cloud_9

P.S - Good to see you on here Manston Airport (James)...didnt realise you were a member as well!

Neg posts about Manston

If you make a search on most engines
say asking (Kent International Airport flights)

You do find these neg post about KIA, I and sure thats why they are made time after time after time.
But it's a free country, however it's not helping Manston and there staff who jobs could be put at risk.

Jobs at Risk

Herne Bay

I am sorry but this is a rumour network and as such there is no way in the world that senior people at Infratil would look at these posts and conclude that with all the doom and gloom they need to make people redundant!

Most of the posters on this thread know nothing about the inner workings of Infratil and I would be amazed if any of them would be remotely close to decision makers within Manstons management.

Your concerns about job losses due to the posts on this thread, whilst honourable, are unfounded. Don't worry Infratil and prospective airlines know what they are doing, and will not be swayed by comments on PPrune.

Another good load on the Cargolux today: five produce lorry-loads plus 2 jet engines. FlyteComm continues to show a CLX7179 flight scheduled for Wednesdays. Could this be the putative 2nd service?

Kent Business this week has an interview with Matt Cark Manager KIA
Which is worth reading, a few points
He confirmed talks were continuing with number of airlines regards scheduled flights, but only deals that were good for the long term.
Said we're introducing new charter flights.
Talked about Egypt Air and Cargolux (not a word about MK)
And about a new brand image and slogan for Manston.
Prestwick ( pure dead brilliant ) Wellington ( Wild at Heart )
I sure PPRUNER can think of a few ?? for MSE

Is Matt CEO or General manager

Infratil in talks

I must agree. Just how long can talks go on for!

What did Elvis say "A little less talk and a lot more action!"

Even I (a firm believer in the airports viability) am getting fed up of the ongoing, advanced, serious, major, significant talks!

Don't get down-hearted, chaps. Cloud 9 (where else?) and James are rumoured to be setting up Yoof Air. First routes will be to Oxford and Cambridge.
