LUTON JOTTINGS
Flew into Luton on 25 April (Wednesday) from Gibraltar with Monarch, arrived on time parking on stand 44 so not too far to walk to Boarder Control - straight through (2.30pm) and straight on the shuttle bus to car hire. Off airport within 30 minutes.
Returned Monday 7 May (Bank Holiday in UK) so decided to take a taxi at 4am to beat the 5am shambles (hire car had been returned earlier in the week because the hire company wanted 50 pounds out of hours excess!). Arrived at 4.20 - very little traffic checked in for Monarch flight back to Gib and then to security. Straight through and was airside by 4.30am for 7.15 flight which departed on time. Staff very civil. Sat and watched aircraft being de-iced! Well worth losing a little sleep to arrive early and not get involved in the melee around 5-5.30am. Saw quite a few people rushing around at 5.30 trying to catch the 6am flights. So not too bad an experience considering.
Chelsea have used Luton in the past when Farnborough is closed and there aircraft cannot get into Heathrow or Gatwick because of no night slots). On 19 May there is the Champions League Final and if you care to take a look there are charters from Luton to Munich on the Friday and Saturday although most of the flights will operate from Gatwick. On the same day there is the Heinekin Cup Final at Twickenham with two Irish teams participating and there are charter flights from both Dublin and Belfast due into Luton. The previous evening the Amblin Cup Final is being played at Harlequins ground in London with two French teams participating so I would imagine there could be some charters for this match as well. All in all it will be a very busy weekend for airports in the south-east.

Your local airport being only 3 meters above sea level and only 8850 passengers in 2010, I think you would be glad of only one A320 once a week! Oh no, a twin otter is about you can handle
I think you have been in the sun too much and away from old blighty
Luton is on the radar for expansion, whichever plan gets adopted, it's in the right place for catchment area & transport links.
The best option would have been Cublington (Wing), but that's history now, a lost opportunity which could have driven MK and the M4 corridor further.

Thanks for your update on charters, looks like LTN will get a bit of extra business! :-)

Actually I thought you was furious with little old me but which dump are you referring to as Bedfordshire has many hills
Are they passengers or crew? I guess they must be passengers as they are not wearing high viz jackets.
Never knew you was Jonny Foreigner, might explain why you got confused with the UK rail network. If you need any advice on your next trip to the UK I would be pleased to help
How could I possibly be furious about LHR, LGW, SEN, STN or some dump on top of a Bedfordshire hill?
Here's a pic from my local airport, have a nice life in Luton

The only definite information so far I have is Jet 2 LS6228 to Munich on the 19th 737/757 but Gatwick has a Thomas Cook Scandinavia A330 and an Excel Airways France A330. When I get more information I will certainly let you know.
Also I see the Monarch Munich service starts in early September - interesting.
There was a Jet 2 737 in last Saturday for the Cup Final carrying the Liverpool prawn sandwich brigade - parked on stand 71.

Amazing Virgin have a spare A340 over this period and valuable night slots get used up at LGW.....but things could change.
I suppose LTN will benefit from Rugby charters instead.

Munich Football - just had a look at that list and speaking to my contact yesterday, LTN hasnt lost as much as the lists suggests as apparently the CRL B744's, TVS 738, HV 738's and the JAF B763 have all been handed back due to lack of demand and will not operate.
The VS A340 is a case of 'who you know' and HAS to operate if you know what I mean...
Buster - I'll look out for you on the 20th...
