True. As Germany's second largest city, with it's interesting night life, culture etc, I'm sure it will prove more succesful than Bremen.

Another Long Haul Destination ?

South African airline Comair, or its low-cost arm, kulula.com, may soon compete with SAA, BA and Virgin by offering flights to London. The group has applied for a licence to put on daily flights between London and Johannesburg.

Gidon Novick, joint chief executive of Comair, was not certain whether the full-service airline or its low-cost division would fly the route if a licence was obtained. He said that would depend on market research. Both were strong brands in the local market and there were precedents for low-cost airlines to fly long haul routes successfully.

It was not certain whether the flights would be to Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted or Luton airports. Mr. Novik said: 'The choice is between proximity to central London or congestion. Heathrow is very congested and so is Gatwick. There is also the question of connecting flights to Europe or the US.'

Mr. Novick added Comair would look for two suitable wide-bodied aircraft for the route if a licence was obtained.

Alteon Training Centre to close

Alteon Training LLC, a subsidiary of US aircraft make Boeing that operates flight simulators across the world, has announced that it is closing four training centers, including one at Luton Airport. However, it will expand its operations at Gatwick and Manchester airports.

Training centers in Long Beach, California, Dallas and Kunming, China, will close by the end of this year and another in Luton Airport will close in mid-2008. As part of the restructuring, the company said it will expand its training centers in Miami and Seattle as well as Gatwick and Manchester airports in the UK. It will also open a new training center in Shanghai, China, that will house the first Boeing 787 full-flight simulator in partnership with Shanghai Airlines.

Alteon Training...another in Luton Airport will close in mid-2008
Scot Airways are closing thier Luton office
So what? Alteon's closure will only affect LBC's income, not LLAO's and as for Scot Airways, well for years it's contributed 0.0% to LTN's daily business activity. However, Alteon's closure at LTN will have an effect on easyJet's recurrent training programmes on the Boeing 737, making it more difficult to facilitate for its LTN-based crews. However, as far as LTN/LLAO is concerned, neither is an issue to about...

Strange move by Alteon, are easyJet ditching their 737's early, or did Boeing build the sim in preparation for massive future orders that went to Airbus?

Remember easyJet is mostly flying Airbus now.

Did Alteon get an H M Govt grant that has now expired?

Building might make a new easyHotel or Ryanair's new tinminal!

These are already operated for Thomson Holidays. I assume they will operate them as combined scheduled and charters. Be interesting to see how often they operate.

This Link - the "Delta Service Road" - should be open within a matter of weeks. It's certainly planned to be fully operational by the time that Silverjet starts parking its aircraft on the South Apron stands, and so will need quick and unimpeded vehicle access for cleaning, servicing, catering, baggage and passenger movement, etc.

Well as this is a rumour forum.

A shortened name for the Mediterranean and the last three letters after easy _ _ _?

Rumoured 2 MD-80's, but then again, I stated 'Baby' were coming 4 years ago!

Don't ask me any more as I only know what was stated above, and probably an inaccurate story?

Rumour Forum.

easyJet are starting to convert Luton to an Airbus fleet from August 08. This seems to conincide with the closure of Alteon at around the same time.

So where are the -700's going? Liverpool will then be the only Boeing base!

MedJet, possibly VIP MD-80's?

Maybe I'm wrong but I thought Liverpool was already an Airbus base and Boeings were at Newcatle and Belfast.
