I can say 100% it did go up 2 weeks ago.
Picked a friend up (in the drop off bay) on Sat 29th Jan - £1.
Dropped friend off (same place) on Mon 31st - £2 - with stickers obviously hastily applied in that 2 day period.
If there had been any signage would probably have dropped him off at the mid-stay drop point.

January 2011 Figures
Number of passengers which used Luton in January was 579,073 a 9.5 per cent increase on last year. The rolling 12 month figure is 8,784,311 3.1 per cent down on the corresponding 12 month figure which keeps the airport in fifth place overall regarding the number of passengers using UK airports. Air Transport movements were up a healthy 8.7 per cent to 5,267.

Wow! I'm sure if more cencrete would be laid for VVIPs and if the next six pack of airliners stands would get the thumps up then we would once again get maxed out at peak times. Come on Luton get some Spainsh agreement for the future which will benefit all!

I wonder how much of that increase in numbers is due to Luton escaping much of the snow disruption this time round. Presumably it was able to accept a lot of diversions when other airports were closed.

Diversions
CAA stats show that Luton lost 9 flights in 2010 and gained 15 from other
airports (If I can add!).
What of course it does not show are the cancellations but looking at this
it seems that the increase is down to more flights operating
ATM's for 2010 5084 and 2011 5267 although the latter is provisional.
Seems it was a good start to 2011 for Luton.

Extra Monarch Aircraft
Yes just had a quick look at the schedules definitely a fifth based aircraft needed. Also extra Larnaca flights as well as the above mentioned.
As regards the Wizz Zagreb the termination of this route was announced some time ago. easy are starting a service from guess where - Gatwick so I would imagine Wizz decided to try a new route not otherwise served i.e. Skopje.

Monarch boosts summer capacity from Luton by 100,000
Feb 18, 2011 08:00
Monarch has added more than 100,000 seats from Luton to Spain, Portugal, Cyprus and Turkey this summer in light of “soaring demand from customers”.
The expansion in the scheduled programme, announced this week, will mean 108,500 more seats from Luton to Gibraltar, Malaga, Alicante, Majorca, Faro, Dalaman and Bodrum.
There will be an additional 11,000 seats from Manchester with an extra weekly flight to Larnaca, and another 16,000 from Gatwick through the use of bigger aircraft on services to Alicante, Faro, Lanzarote, Larnaca, Majorca and Malaga – adding more than 135,000 seats on 14 routes in total.
Monarch will add four flights a week from Luton to Gibraltar, meaning 11 in all with double-daily services on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. There will be an additional two flights a week from Luton to Alicante, Malaga, Majorca and Dalaman, and one extra to Faro.
That will make Luton’s Alicante and Faro services daily, and take Malaga to double daily on Monday and Saturday, Majorca to eight flights a week, Dalaman to five and Bodrum to three.
All the flights are scheduled from May 27 and available for booking now, with one-way fares from £40.99.
Monarch Airlines managing director Kevin George said: “Bookings for summer are already up 27% compared with the same time last year, so we are delighted to respond by adding seats.”
The carrier reported its highest-ever January passenger numbers and has already increased its April flight programme from Gatwick and Manchester to Spain, Portugal and Cyprus.

Is this an attempt by Monarch to fill seats left vacant by Olympic? Or an initiative by changed management?
Anyway it will be nice to see five aircraft at LTN if that's what's needed. Can't remember when that many aircraft were LTN based?
Three or more 720Bs and two One-Elevens in the seventies?
