First Jet2 flight
Flew with Jet2 for the first time last weekend, from Rome to Manchester. Had pre-booked seats, but at check in, were informed that some muppet @ Manchester had not sent the details of pre-booked seats onto Rome, so they were just allocating seats when people checked in. Why do they charge for you to select your seat numbers, if somebody in Manchester cant be arsed to pass the message on to the handling agent in Rome.
On a positive note, the senior steward, Ken (Irish), was such a laugh. It was a pleasure to be entertained from take off to landing

Inglebyboro,
Unfortunately you picked just about the worst airport in the world for efficient passenger handling. Manchester probably did send the request but there was no way anyone in Rome was ever going to read it, let alone respond to it.
When the football was on a few months ago, the turnround took several hours because all the handlers simply evaporated. With that kind of attitude, your pre-allocated seats are hardly going to interest anyone.
Despite this, Jet2 and its crews do their very best to serve this difficult route as best they can and the average end-result isn't too bad. You won't find many Kens in EZY or Ryanair.

Jet2 / JFK
I think Jet2 would do well with a STN-JFK service,
If you look at the JFK flights from STN, Maxjet, Eos and American they all offer a very differant kind of servise, you have Eos with high price business fares, Maxjet with low cost business fares and American Airways with high business fares along with (y) class fares.
The only thing missing is an Airline that offers low cost fares, step up to the plate Jet2, just think of the passengers that would be willing to stop using the above three airlines and start using Jet2 after all price matters.

No demonstrable difference between AA and LS really. AA throw an inedible meal at you and a few airmiles. C'est tout...

Why would Jet2 want to try STN-JFK or indeed STN to anywhere in the US? The London area is already well covered to the US.
Surely if they were going to try long haul there would be more sense in trying NCL-JFK as there is no US service from there at all at present.
Any airline trying something new would want to minimise the risk they take and an open playing field like NCL to the US suggests either (a) there's no demand or (b) a good chance of turning a profit.

You wrote a few weeks ago that a big announcement will be made soon........
I'm still hanging onto the edge of my seat! Will Jet2 still be likely to get one or has that rumor finished??

I understand they are in full retreat from MAN. 3 a/c already out for next summer back to LBA with a chance that others could follow. Be interesting to see what comes out of the slot conference this weekend......especially interesting to see if the retreat coincides with an EZY onslaught.

Nope, all wrong I'm afraid.
The 757's are CAT 3b but due to LBA being a crap airport. i.e. The runways to short and its bent in the middle , plus its stuck on a hill that sends the Rad Alt do-laly they cannot autoland there. And Leeds being Leeds, when it's not windy, it can get very foggy.
However, the 737's may still use CAT 3a into Leeds.
Just Jet2 applying a bit of common sense!!

You well may be right. It does look like LS have pulled the plug on the MAN-FAO route probably to concentrate as sole operator on BLK-FAO.
Should this be the case, I cannot say that I am totally surprised. There are quite a few operators on the MAN-FAO route and I personally feel that their flight timing was less than ideal for a single daily operation to this destination. Whilst I have no idea if the route was a commercial success during the past summer whist operated by a B757, they did seem to suffer quite a number of rather lengthy delays.
