So do I assume that Baby have put a bid in for the contract to run the JER-UK routes in the same way bmi did with F100s/E145s in the late 90s/early 00s? I can't see them coming back by choice that's all.

Cancelled 1440 to ABZ

I was booked on the 1440 Eastern to ABZ last Wed (9th). As usual, the flight from ABZ landed nice and early BUT Servisair only came thro to board us at 1440 and not the normal 20-30 mins before t/o.

It then turned out there was a problem with the door and Eastern had canc the flight. When 'all' pax were gathered to be informed of this we realised there were only 3 of us. When a fellow pax asked if this was the cause of the 'cancellation', he was assured this was not the case, there was a fault with the door but we could be booked on to the 1740 no problem. I then asked what would be the case if door not fixed by then and was anyone on their way to fix it?
I'm still waiting for an answer on that one!
It then turned out only 1 seat left so 2 of us taxied to NCL by rather talkative driver who told us he was called by Servisair at 1420 to take pax to NCL!!!!! Amazing since door only found to be faulty JUST before Servisair tried to board us, approx 1440.
Found on Flight Stats it subsequently dep MME 1455 and arr ABZ 1542.
(On DTV Movements this flight had the code T3586/66L- does 66L mean anything??)

Sorry for length of this post but I'm v annoyed at not getting to ABZ until 1900ish instead of 1600ish.
Can any 'background' guys at MME shed anymore light on this for me??

Thanks

Over worked?? as you say hardly, no my ref to lots of checked bags is because baby now charge for them and nearly everyone going to JER will be a suitcase job = money for a third of the flight time to AGP (AND A LOT LESS FUEL!!)

I can confirm to you that the 66L part will be the aircraft call sign used with Air Traffic.

With regards to the flight operating up to ABZ, it may have been that the fault resulted in passengers not been allowed to travel on safety grounds, but could be operated by flight crew to get the door fixed at a more suitable maintenance base with the correct parts.

The reason Eastern are quite expensive is that they operate with small numbers on some flights and that the busier flights subsidise the quieter ones, so they would not cancel your flight because of only 3 pax.

At least you did get to ABZ and not at your own expense, when some carriers would have dumped you with a refund and told to return in 3 days time when the next flight operated

The reason some carriers use two sets of codes such as Eastern with the 66L, is to avoid confusion with other flights; i.e. if you've got the EZE586 due at the same time as say, a PGT586, there could be some serious confusion between the pilots and ATC.

On a Wednesday evening, there's an XLA449 goes into NCL at about the same time our OHY449 comes in, I don't think it causes much confusion to ATC as they're usually on different frequencies, but it causes spotters some headaches!!

Iberworld

I am sure that the Iberworld IBZ flights, along with the Iberworld ACE and the Futura PMI are only routing to Glasgow until the end of July (Scottish school holidays) and then they are back to operating from MME.

I'll be flying out to DTV from LHR in the next few weeks. Are BMI still operating the ERJs or has it gone back to being A319 yet?

Its a mix of A319/A320 at the moment on most flights, Saturday morning (332/333) and teatime (338/339) are usually ERJ's as are Sunday morning I think, other than that it's all Airbus.

I'm booked on a number of weekday 331's and 338's in the next few weeks and they're all 319/320 according to ViewTrip.

For info; finally the Sunderland Air Show traffic has been confirmed, DTVA has four Dutch and Belgian F16s as well as the Dutch AB412. The rest of the traffic is said to be operating from 'other fields', whether this is NCL or not I'm not sure.

Onur Air

Surprised to see an Airbus A320/1 Onur on final going over Guisborough last night inbound from Dalaman-even more surprised to see it was 50 mins early!!Surely GSM could learn a lesson!!

Seriously though, I know the KL F70 arrives over Guisborough most days but why/when do other airlines use this approach? This is the first non-KLM I've seen flying over this way?

It will be because it routes up the east coast from OTR, as does the KLM occasionally if the traffic in the Vale of York is light. The reason most other aircraft don't fly over Guisborough will be because they come in through GASKO to the southwest of the airfield and a downwind join for 23 (even left hand) will only take them as far as Nunthorpe-way before turning in.

The ones coming over Guisborough will most likely be on a visual approach or on a tighter base leg join from the southeast.

Hope that helps

Some good news for a change...

Firstly, the two Iberworld flights and the Futura flight is now operating back into DTVA as normal, no more going to Glasgow. Secondly, Holidays4U have added a second Onur Air flight to Dalaman during peak time next summer (should make three Dalaman flights total, with one Bodrum). OHY4505/6 will operate on Tuesday evenings with the current OHY449/450 becoming OHY459/4504 operating Wednesday nights.

Ryanair

Notice FR have announced GRO and ALC from LBA-does this mean no return for GRO and the end of ALC from MME?

I wondered that, but I believe there's a difference in days/timings that means it can't be.

I note that the owners of the only ? 'on site airport hotel' the Spa have placed it on the market. Turnover seems low at £250k p.a. Presumably a mirror of the level of activity at the terminal. Bit ironic that 'up the road' £Millions are being spent on new 'on site' Ramada Businesses for sale - brief details

Not suprising that turnover is low since the hotel has only 19 bedrooms!! There is an article in today's Northern Echo about Hilton submitting a planning application for a 130-bed hotel on the site opposite Cleveland Motor Homes so let's see what becomes of that!

Globespan hitting all the right spots

Here we are in the height of the season when all airlines are stretched and delays are the norm yet Globespan are bucking the trend into MME and are now invariably on time.During the Winter and Spring they were pathetic but now when the chips are down I may be forced to review my travel arrangements to the Canaries in future and use them rather than travel up the road to the great satan of airports.

Summer delays

It seems that it is Ryanair's turn for delays as parents were delayed 30 mins out of MME to GRO yesterday. Ok, not the 10hr delays GSM have racked up in the past but very unlike FR!
