Flybe
Hi there,
Just a query on the new Flybe service to CWL. Just looking at the schedule for Sept and the route operates on Sat morning and Tues afternoon which I would have thought was a bit out for leisure weekend break travellers. Air Wales used to offer a Fri evening and Sun evening schedule which was good fit. Just wondering if there's an opportunity for a review for the W15/16 schedule?
There's also good synergy potential between CWL and ORK.CWL has recently got routes to DUS, MXP and MUC services so could be opportunity to offer the Flybe shuttle service to one of these destinations with CWL potentially benefitting from transitting passengers and splitting loads between two points of departure? ie. CWL-ORK-CWL-DUS-CWL.
Also wondering if ORK has been in discussion with Flybe on their project blackbird referred to on Flybe | Corporate | Media | News archive If so, what routes could suit? LCY, DUS? Any thoughts?

The times also make rugby fixtures problematic (although the world cup matches are on Sunday and should be OK). I would have imagined rugby fans constitute a not insignificant part of the Munster-South Wales market.
Nevertheless, I would imagine that the aircraft is in use on days that better suit leisure passengers. There are loads of routes out there that could be made to pay operationally on a Friday and Sunday/Monday, but it would leave aircraft sitting round on other days incurring depreciation costs while not earning revenue.

So one new route to be annoinced, Paris is not new however whats the connection Jack refers to yesterday, BHX-SNN was announced...
If it is Ryanair I hope a discount is not given, otherwise Cork takes two steps forward and one back!

Shannon-Birmingham was announced on 23rd March, so I assume "yesterday's events" refers to the Germanwings accident. Possibly they were going to announce something, but either because they are short of an airframe or because it would be insensitive at the moment, it won't be happening.

Cork needs to improve its connectivity like a double daily to Paris CDG, not Beauvais... if EI won`t do it, I wish CityJet would.
Hard to believe that Lufthansa fly multiple A321 services per day to Dublin but nothing to Cork.
Cork-Frankfurt should be another top priority for the DAA...if Cork airport wasn`t an afterthought for them.

Cork has great connectivity IMO. Double daily to Paris would be economically possible with AMS at double daily and Heathrow at quadruple daily. If it was to happen, it would really undermine AMS to the point where it may be cut to 1x or 0x daily, back to where ye started.
Dublin has a far bigger market, and you can't go expecting to get any more than a fifth (that's pushing it) of what Dublin gets. Its the harsh truth. You need to get your passengers to say in and drive down to Cork before you go introducing service that the vast majority of people won't know about.
Something like 5x weekly to Madrid may work and help be in line with the Latin American departures there. That's about as much connectivity that Cork can stretch ATM IMHO.

Anyway FRA/MUC have very limited capacity and to be honest COrk will not be top priority, just look at their networks from these airports.
Best which can be hoped for would be a Germanwings connection to DUS or CGN.
As for CDG, WX would fail like at SNN.
Just look at how successful SNN is free, what have they attracted bar Ryanair, why do people think its the answer to Cork traffic problem and the big bad daa are all to blame?
