I see the Irish Travel Agents are claiming that bookings increased by 90% in January compared to January 2012. If this is the case and the trend continues we might see some of the lost capacity restored at our airports. I won't hold my breath as I recall reading similar reports last January and all that materialised was another stagnant year for Cork and Dublin and a further fall at Shannon.

Aircoach is €25 return from Cork to Dublin Airport.
So, trundle to a bus stop from your house, with your luggage, if your serviced by a bus route, into town. Trundle with your luggage to the back of the Metropole. Sit on a coach for 3 hours to Dub Airport. And the misery of having to do it back home.

Lovely.

IF the Ryanair proposals get approval we will be depending on an British Airways and Flybe to provide meaningful competition at Cork Airport. That would be funny if it wasn't so serious. The former took over Cambrian Airways, Brymon, Manx Airways and City Flyer Express at various times in the past. By Co-incidence each of those carriers had been operating various UK routes into Cork at the time of their takeover. BA promptly withdrew from Gatwick, Manchester, Bristol, Plymouth and Newcastle although they did operate to London Heathrow for many years untill the early 1990's. Over the last decade they've shown no interest in the Irish Market North or South untill their surprise re-entry on LHR DUB last summer.

Flybe's brand recognition in the Republic is very limited and it's hard to see them competing with Ryanair for any length of time. I can't see any prospect of competition from Cork to Lanzarote, Teneriffe, Las Palmas, Barcelona, Alicante, Malaga, Palma or Faro. These are all served by both EI and FR at the moment. In fact I doubt if Flybe aircraft have the range to fly to the Canaries.

Cork Airport

Today Monday , always a key day for airports jut two airlines fly to Cork

EI have what 16 flights and FR 5 or 6
I believe Corkwould be the real loser if EI are closed, and that is the ONLY plan, by MOL

BA are back on Dublin becuase they bought BMI , they are sitting on the lots for future LH growth subject to new aircraft arrivals

BE are sacking pilots, cabin crew engineers and office staff this very month

neither airline need CORK .

sorry but thats my view and I hope EI are not closed

Just read that Cork Airport are to encourage airlines to put on extra flights for rebel week in Mid October. It remains to be seen if this paddywhackery will produce the predicted 5,000 visitors to the City but even if it does, I predict that the airlines will shunt them to Dublin and Shannon on their existing services rather than put on extra flights to Cork.

I agree Hangar6, nothing good would come from allowing Ryanair to buy Aer Lingus. O'Leary's track record in using his airline to punish/bully airports and governments, not just in Ireland, but all over Europe, should completely inform the EU that their arms length relationship with Ryanair was the right policy.

The speculation at the time centred on Frankfurt as it has done every year since 2009. However once again it didn't materialise. I'd have expected the Ryanair flights to have been loaded by now. Of course they probably won't start untill June so there's ti e yet. I believe Knock Milan was only loaded this week.

So there is still a chance that the French routes could be added to Cork?.

Cardiff

The route between Cork and Cardiff could do with being reintroduced.

CDG Slot

EI have got.....

Source of this information?

As I said before, very unhelpful deparure time if you have to travel from outside the city... and if you have to get to CDG for the incoming slot.

Paris slots.........hopefully the start of a move towards double daily flights
ORK CDG by EI...
Cheer up, when the late evening departure to CDG starts, in a while,
then you can have more time in bed !

Smart arse, I know they are Paris slots, that's what the OP said, but where did the information come from? It probably comes from the same source as the 'second daily' - vapourware??

It isn't a question of staying in bed, it is about €100 more to be in Cork for an 05.30 presence, not to mention the potential extra cost of being in Paris for 09.00. The exisiting mid morning -mid afternoon is fine.

The mid morning time might be fine for getting to Paris, but not a whole lot else, and even then you were dependant on the Amsterdam flight arriving back on time to collect the CDG passengers.

I was wrecked from the Cork - AMS early time but it helps for onward flights. For flights within France, the mid morning flight arrives too late for early onward internal flights from CDG or getting to Orly. It's a price worth paying.

Extra flights were only loaded for June and July yesterday. Anyone know if they're operating for August?

Well obviously they will, would expect them to be loaded during the week. Can't see them wanting to avoid the biggest travelling month in the year.

FR have released August flights and they include a reduction on both sun and eastren europe routes. LRH dosn't operate and after doing a quick search it would suggest only one aircraft operates all week and the other between Fri and Sun. Third one not required.
