Three route info snippets:

- it looks as if the DUS route will be upgraded from ATR42 equipment to a BAe 146-200 during 2009.

- as widely reported in the various Manx threads, apparently a new thrice-daily Aer Arran service from LCY to IOM is in the pipeline.

- according to the OFT website, Eastern will be the new competitor on the AMS route with an eight-times daily service. Eastern's proposed flight schedule is as follows.

LCY AMS AMS LCY
06:50 09:05 07:30 07:45
08:15 10:30 09:35 09:50

I give it six months. Head to head with BA and KLM flying the smallest aircraft of the three from an airport they recently dumped.

I could have sworn that KLM use 50 seater F50's and Eastern use 50 seat Saab 2000's except that the Saab 2000 is about twice as fast

From experience, you can only overtake a F50 if you're airborne within 5 to 10 minutes (max) after it takes off from AMS. Otherwise you're stuck behind it with speedcontrol and vectoring from london. It's a 'fun game' trying to overtake. I've found LCY-AMS to be no problem. It's always the return sector where you get slowed down. I think they must know you're on your way home...

Brazilian aircraft manufacturer Embraer has scheduled a number of flight trials for its new E-190 aircraft at London City Airport, Air Transport Intelligence reports.......Trials including take-offs, landings and manoeuvring will take place at the airport all day on Saturday November 1.
This will be interesting, given that London City closes completely at 12.30 on Saturdays. Do you think anyone at Embraer knows ?

Definitely not happening tomorrow and was never going to. Embraer got a little ahead of themselves. The aircraft doesn't even have CAA clearance to enter UK airspace, let alone trial at LCY.

Really ? Both the Embraer 170 and 190 are daily visitors at Manchester, operating for Finnair, while LOT Emb-170s can be seen overhead LCY operating into Heathrow.

Something to do with it being a modified prototype perhaps?

I think you'll find that it was the OFT rather than CityJet who imposed the relatively novel condition of having to "find a competitor" before they would approve the VLM deal.

New route to Billund

Sunair will open a new twice-daily Billund service on Jan, 19, 2008 with a Dornier 328. As you will know, Sunair is the Danish BA franchise, so another BA route added to the network.

Press release (only in Danish):

http://tmcomponents.travelmarket.com...semed06NOV.pdf

Not sure to what extent the Sterling demise comes into play here as I do not think that a BLL-LCY service by Sunair can be seen as a direct replacement of a LCC-style service by Sterling. Anyway, there will be competition in addition to the Ryanair service to STN as Cimber Air will introduce a once-daily LGW route with effect November 24, 2008.
