Well, they are making sure that the technical equipment required is in place and the IOM seems to be the place where the equipment will be installed first. And with exploding fuel prices, Flybe, like other LCCs, will be desparate to generate as many ancillary revenues as possible as quickly as possible.

charging for check in
Flybe confirmed internally weeks ago that it would not be charging for check in. Apparently the way RYR introduced it led them to believe that it had become too tarnished.

Indeed Flybe will not be charging for personal check in - according to Mike Rutter. Flybe have been slow to correct that news item that came out a few weeks ago - maybe they will now. I suppose they could also do with selling the positive aspects of the new check in machines - I've used them elsewhere (Not T5 I hasten to add!) and they are a godsend.
Flybe do not charge for sitting next to you're friend, lover or mistress. Like all airlines, including EMX, people who check in as a group are sat together wherever possible - the later you check in the less flexibility there is for this to be guaranteed. What Flybe do offer is a facility (at a premium) to ensure that no matter what time you check in, your seats will be reserved. Even if you have separated seats, the Cabin Crew can normally sort things out on board.
I've not seen the EMX junk mail yet, but it sounds a bit disingenuous and clutching at straws. I'm sure Flybe will be quick to retort and correct a few of the 'errors' that are apparently contained within and sling some mud back in the other direction.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to my first LPL rotation next week - last done in an ATP five years ago !!.

Captain H fella you must be one of the old Manx boys then. You know the mud you get there in Douglas bay when the tide goes out well its the same consistency as those flymaybe fellas have been chucking about the local press at those euros these past few months. Kettle, pot, black fella.

This is the Euromanx thread - mods please feel free to kick this and others into the Isle of Man melting pot (for a small island we do generate loads of words, it seems).
Couple of thoughts:
BE PR people are young, amateur and imature. When the FlyBe absorption of BaCon started FlyBe trumpeted that the IOM-LGW route pax numbers had jumped under their stewardship by some 20%. Either they forgot, or they hadn't been told, that BaCon had upped the LGW rotations by 33% (4 instead of 3 - Luton dropped). Oops.
FlyBe website motivated pax to pre book their seat "to ensure you are sat together" or words to that effect. Thanks Capt H for telling me that me and my family will be sat together (provided we check in early enough). It's sad but when FlyBe first took over BaCon one of the website messages was that seats were alocated on a random basis so pick your's now. I've been on many a FlyBe flight where hubby and wife have been appealing to the cabin crew to be sat together. In the early days it was blamed on the lack of familiarity of the handling agent with the computer system. Maybe they've got past the T5 moment now.
So I've been paying an arm and a leg to ensure we sit together. Needlessly it seems. But no! I've actually been using EMX more often because I have no appetite to be party to the seating lottery suggested by the website. I've been flying the competition. Another BE own goal?
Actually (and here is a rare flash of honesty) my approach to booking flights has been
a) am I comfortable with the 'plane (nothing tiddly, please)
b) how much?
And my money has probably gone 50/50 EMX/BE (even after paying for seat assignments...)
Don't misunderstand me - I am happy flying either BE or EMX provided the price is right. Which is ironic because before FlyBe arrived I happily paid full wack for a great service (from Manx and, yes, EMX & BaCon) - but now pay on average 40% of what I paid before. But I travel more in the hope of arriving, rather than the certainty I enjoyed before....

Getting Facts Right
Well its not just EuroManx that gets its facts wrong !! Its long ago that in a flybe advert in the IOM they were comparing prices of their London Luton flights to prices on 'Euromanx's flights to Gatwick' how bad is that not even knowing their own routes !!
Oh sorry this must have been the brilliant marketing team at Flybe.
Euromanx are right to point out to the customer what their key selling points are !! as does flybe every week in the local papers.
However is is nice to see in their summer timetable on the front page that we can get to London City now for £19.00 what a bargain !!! well done EuroManx for the £19.00 fares beat that flybe.

Will you lot all stop worrying about who allows you to sit togther and who doesn't... and who charges for it.. and who doesn't!!!
What it boils down to is that Flybe are aggressivly increasing market share on the Isle of Man and to the expense of Euromanx. It's only a matter of time before LPL becomes a bloodbath.
Flybe's PR team maybe young but they certainly know how to pull a punch and get bums on seats unlike the usual drivvle from JS, Kermit, Gonzo and the rest of the team.

Word in the aircraft trading world is that the two Dash 8s have been sold... given that there are few if any replacement aircraft on the market and limited ACMI availability, what is the future fleet for Euromanx?

Surely, according to the summer timetable they are acquiring another Dash8.
It is no point worrying about the PR from FLYBE/Euromanx. Advertising will only ever give you the plus points and just the information that make the client look good, no more. You never ever give the whole story

Gloustour? LOL. I don't live in Gloucester, but rather elsewhere in Gloucestershire.
Anyway, there's nothing on EuroManx.com about from £19 to/from LCY. Indeed, it clearly states on its frontpage Liverpool, Manchester and Belfast to/from Isle of Man from £19 one-way. Moreover, it states, in its Latest News section, that:"...fares to Liverpool, Manchester and Belfast to just £19 one way." That should, of course, be from £19 one-way, but hey. There's no mention therein of London City from that price. Indeed, the minimum I can find for IOM-LCY is £49 one-way including taxes.
If you think differently, perhaps tell us when the from £19 fare to/from LCY will start. It should say on your flyer.

Shock News
Austo7 has been appointed Euromanx new chief executive. "My first actions" said Austro " will be to replace the two Dashes weve just sold with two new Cessna 150's. This way we'll be able to increase our capacity utilisation to 100% on every flight. Fares to LCY will increase from £19 to £19,000 per passenger and in flight service will be to the same unique standard as BHD."
Welcoming Austro7 to the new position JS said "well no one else could come up with a plan that worked and we've just about got enough dosh left for a couple of Cessnas so we ll be giving him our full backing"

Just looked through the four page EMX glossy. The big theme is NO hidden charges. Very noble.
Beneath that statement on the back page, in the smallest font on the flyer is the statement - 'please note for those wishing to pay on line with a credit card or debit card a fee is applied'.
Now, there you have it, NO, hidden charges apart from, that is, the one about using credit cards in the micro font so hopefully you won't see it .
EMX charge £1 more per person per return journey for the use of a credit card than their 'main competitor'.

After pondering the online fees for credit cards and debit cards, I finally realised that if you want to pay precisely £19 for a flight you must book it at an airport ticket desk.
