I have lived in my house for 11 years
Only 11 years?

Well ~ assuming his house was built then (and there's a completely separate thread here, about planning permissions being granted with little or no regard to nearby airports and airspace routes...) ~ he should have lived there 35 years ago.

Things are now a lot quieter than then. Anyone remember the sound of a Trident, Comet or an unhushkitted BAC1-11 taking off from Luton, particularly in wee small hours?

Now that's what I call a "noise".

The government want a major expansion of housing on green belt land to the west of Stevenage. No doubt then that the new home owners will be campaigning about aircraft noise as soon as they move in.

4.6 miles final approach to Luton's runway 26 or east of Luton's runway 08 to be precise. And yes, the airport operator at Luton did raise an objection.

Also planned is massive housing expansion in the area between Leighton Buzzard and Milton Keynes - strategically located underneath Heathrow's WOBUN departure route and Luton's OLNEY departure route (information about which is freely available and in the public domain).

As I said, there's a completely separate thread here, about planning permissions being granted with little or no regard to nearby airports and airspace routes...

Perhaps if the Government's Home Information Pack initiative actually sees the light of day, it may enable propective purchasers to elicit this sort information before signing on the dotted line but even so, given the madness that's now endemic, they would still probably complain and have their complaints supported by politicians, councils, community groups, etc., and upheld in the courts.

The Isle of Man thread carries a story that Aer Arran are ending LTN-IOM after Christmas, and replacing it with LGW flights

Bad news if true.

I maybe wrong but I think the reference is to four BA flights to LGW, instead of the current three, not Arran replacing it with LGW flights. That would give IOM-LGW 8 daily; I think not.

Night Closures

I see from threads posted last week by Buster and CAP493 that runway closures start tonight.

I've just looked at the NOTAM on the NATS website and am confused

Q)EGTT/QMRLC/IV/NBO/A/000/999/5152N00022W005
B)06/10/01 06:36 UTC C)06/11/30 04:45 AGA (A2510/06)
E)RWY 08/26 CLOSED MON-SAT 2259-0445. RWY WILL OPR WITH FULL CAT 3
AERONAUTICAL GROUND LIGHTING. FULL DETAILS AVBL IN SUPP S6/2006.
Now if I read the NOTAM correctly, the airport is only open Sunday night/ Monday morning ... but CAP493 mention the airport being open on Saturday and Sunday nights. Which is correct please?

In addition, surely the NOTAM needs to be altered to take account of the change from BST to UTC at the end of October ... or is the airport really going to close at 22.59 local?

johnnychips, in reply to your comments: The letter is so flawed with blatantly obvious inaccuracies to anyone spending a few moments to consider the facts. Why not just write a letter stating that living close to the airport, it is noisier now, than it was 11 years ago? A good starting point and one open to debate?

Contrary to what the environmental campaigners would lead you to believe, the 'extra' carbon emissions over South Bedfordshire as a result of a real change in flights paths have not caused Buster to turn into a pencil...yet!

IOM bookable for summer 07 on the Arann web site.

The purchase of Flyjet should see Silverjet take to the sky sooner, hope they have room to park all the B767's that are coming!

One for Buster the Bear-LTN-JFK

Silverjet secures launch aircraft

Start-up all-business class carrier Silverjet has acquired Gatwick airline Flyjet and related aircraft leasing business Skylease for a combined £9.5 million.

The double deal gives Silverjet an additional Boeing 767 through Skylease which will act as its launch aircraft for £999 return flights from Luton to New York "within three to four months".

The acquisition of Flyjet, which operates two 757s leased from Skylease for tour operators from Gatwick and Manchester, provides Silverjet with access to an Air Oeprators' Certificate and a worldwide route licence.

The acquisitions cost £5.5 million for Skylease and £4 million for Flyjet but mean that Silverjet will not need to outsource the operation of its aircraft to a third party or have to apply for its own AOC.

"As a consequence, Silverjet will achieve significant operating and capital expenditure savings and will be able to commence operations within a matter of months," a company statement said.

Silverjet has also been granted an ATOL by the Civil Aviation Authority.

The airline plans to announce the launch date for flights within the next few weeks when a reservations system will go live to take advance bookings.

CEO Lawrence Hunt said: "The acquisitions we have announced today mean that Silverjet will be ready for take off within three to four months."

Report by Phil Davies

Seema very complicated.

Just a minor point but Silverjet will use EWR and not JFK. This was confirmed again in the press release issued by Flyjet on their website

I realise that I am a cynical Bear, but this lot seems to be both well funded and well managed.

On paper, the deal they announced today was awesome, but being cynical, if Silverjet are still flying 12 months after launch, Buster will be celebrating.

I am fully prepared to be asked if Silverjet can name their first plane 'Buster the Bear'.

Only joking! Good news for the UK, time we gave a local response to EOS and MAXjet...........

Any news on my seat for the inaugural flight?

Not too sure how the Flyjet folk will like re-locating to sunny Bedfordshire?

Luton Airport has appointed Elliot Renton as finance director. He joins from MFI and was previously at drinks giant Diageo.

Mr Renton, 39, has spent two years at MFI Furniture Group as supply chain and global category finance director, stabilising and enhancing supply chain finances, negotiating varied third party agreements and undertaking some active operational roles. Prior to MFI, he was eight years at Diageo, in a variety of financial roles across the organisation encompassing group finance, market and product development and product sourcing and supply.

Well, well,..... since MFI have resorted to selling off the 'Crown Jewels', their stores to private venture in order to survive and the Global capacity he had was limited to the UK, has this chap been 'Head Hunted' off the dole?

Wasn't MFI sold for just £1 last week due to poor financial control

Night Closures

King Pong - yes Supp 6 is available on line and downloadable. However, it clearly says that the details are subject to change by NOTAM and as Supp 6 was issued in March readers of the NOTAM will be confused.

The bottom line is that the current NOTAM does not appear to show the correct hours of closure once local time = UTC and the number of closures per week is different to what is in Supp 6 and more importantly to what the esteemed CAP493 has published on this thread .... and he should know!

Maybe the airport are trying to drive away business by confusing them as to opening times in order to resolve the parking problems!!

I shouldn't worry yourselves overly since the second tranche of runway overnight work is going exceedingly well again and so the end date of 30th November looks like it might come forward to the middle of next month (something the cargo boys are exceedingly keen on being achieved...)

CAP493 - that's good news.

So how many nights a week is there no closure please? One as per the Notam or two as per your previous posts?

I realise it is a rare beast these days, but the Gulfstream 2 had its 40th birthday this week. I would hazard a guess that most if not all have visited Luton over the last 40 years?

Talks between easyJet and the Maltese Government have failed, so Ryanair will not face any competition on the new route.

What has happened to the Airport Masterplan, is it being held back for release?

Remember, May 2007 and local elections. Politicians currently must be feeling very uncomfortable with a re-election looming in the knowledge that the airport is likely to expand greatly. The political colour of the Town Hall could once again change, this time from orange to.......?

Wards most affected by the expansion proposals are Stopsley, Crawley, Putteridge & Wigmore. All are currently Lib Dem strongholds.
