If it's where I'm thinking of, the Air UK office was furthest away from the main terminal door, nearest to Broomfield House if you like! Mind you that was 1998!!

Assume the Canadian bizzie was clearing customs before departing.

See the Flybe seat sale ad in the local paper this morning did not include NCL.
So I wonder if Flybe are leaving the NCL route to Eastern (thus using the NCL-based 8 on another route) or improving it either from July, or later in the year, on a more business-friendly schedule - once they deploy an 8 in ABZ (if they do).

Angel Fly Be

Are they cutting back on all routes of just Newcastle? Thought Fly Be were wanting to expand from Aberdeen?

To be honest I am not sure. The route cutbacks made did come out of the blue a bit but as I have said in the Flybe thread it seems to be a good move in theory despite the fact that it will affect passengers.

It is a case at the moment of getting rid of the non-profit routes and building on the sucessful ones. Flybe have been very pleased with the ABZ/LGW route and this will stay I am sure.....not sure about the others but its early days.......

True, but I am led to believe they have their sights set farther afield than NCL. As much as Flybe want to see the back of Eastern, it would make sense for future expansion to involve places that are not already served from ABZ.

New oil boom - double edged sword?

*up to 30m boe
*30yrs+ left
*300 new fields potentially developed

Seems the high oil prices may set off a new "oil boom" in this part of the world, if some of the straplines I've read along the above lines come to pass.

Whilst the rest of the economy in the UK & beyond struggles, this area may see new growth thanks to the high oil price, assuming the forecast oil prices stay high (some predicting $150 soon).

However will ABZ gain or lose overall with the current fuel costs making conditions extremely difficult for the aviation sector? Flybe's decision to axe their NCLABZ route soon proves that we will not be immune to the downturn in civil aviation - given our location, many routes to/from here will use up more fuel than elsewhere. Could there be more victims on the horizon? Example, what about the off-peak services to the likes of EMA, LBA, etc?

There is a good chance that any growth plans by airlines could be supressed because of the fuel costs, no matter how successful the Aberdeen economy may become because of the high oil prices. There's an irony there somewhere!

Above notwithstanding, have read BA may be sending the odd B763 up here next summer? BA used to send one up in an Offshore Europe week (biannual) but I can't remember the last time one appeared, & BA haven't utilised a 767 as far I as I know for the last couple of OEs conferences.
------------------------------------------------------------------
More talk that whilst the runway may be resurfaced in S09 mainly overnights, the ext may not happen because of the tight finances of BAA & Ferrovial. Also that 36/18 may be out of action for forseeable future? No money to resurface that either? One wonders if now would be a good time for ABZ to be sold off if BAA are reluctant to invest airside!
------------------------------------------------------------------
Can't recall if I posted this previously but 2010 may see a one-off Aberdeen-Barbados flight, to link up with a cruise in the Caribbean, Fred Olsen travel. 2010 is a long way off these days though, so whether it comes to pass...

Runway ext. and runway resurfacing due to begin in April, and will take up to 12 weeks.
Airfield will be closed from 23.00hrs-06.00hrs. Nothing in or out (Fixed wing anyway)during these hours. Not even Gama. Only Heli-med will get in.
Have faith Richard

You have got to hand it to the BAA for their excellent planning! Closing the airfield down during the night at the start of the summer. A reduced summer timetable for Globespan then!!

I think it might have something to do with the better weather at that time of year and maybe the brighter nights (not sure though).

See Kevin Broon has been venting his spleen recently over the poor transport infrastructure around the airport, & cites an example of people from Stonehaven preferring to travel to Edinburgh to catch their flights.

Also mentioned the lack of hotel accomodation (cooncil turned down two hotel developments near the airport recently), linking it with his attempts to tap into the German tourist market, the insinuation obviously being that he cannot - apparently - tap into this market as the accomodation shortage is counting against the area. Can't imagine that's the only reason of course...

Who's responsible for the taxi contracts that are permitted to use the airport, & what about this hitherto (non?)existant shuttle bus from Dyce station to the terminal? And Stagecoach have dumped their airport link on their bus route up the A96...we are left with the typically Aberdonian & uniquely farcical situation of having to change at Blackburn to reconnect with a city-bound bus to get back to the airport!!!

in a few weeks I'll travel to catch my holiday flight in Edinburgh from the Inverurie area and it's got bugger all to do with getting through the city

If they are going to run a shuttle bus from Dyce station maybe they had better build a proper station first. Anyone tried to get in and out of Dyce station in a vehicle recently? Not withstanding the 45 minute journey in rush hour to get from Dyce station to the airport (on a good day). They'll need more than a shuttle bus to make this work.

I still don't understand why they can't have a think about building a link bridge from Dyce straight into the terminal area...I mean look at that guy the other month who decided to route direct....surely a moving walkway on the bridge would help!!!!

Reminds of Prestwick which had a new Terminal building from 1964-1994 before the genuis idea of building a railway station to connect with a railway line across the road came to fruition.......
"If you build it they will come." Sadly however, they did, fecking millions of 'em and now I think it's gone all downmarket

( Yes that does sound terrible ! ) eeep !

Well the Cooncil built the cycle track from Bond to the Main Terminal. So what's needed is a fleet of Trishaws,to whiz punters from east to west in luxury and comfort. I'm sure Project-Sakura would built a lecky version.
Or a huge moving walkway next to the cycle track,or under the runway.
