bmiR to Kristiansund
They are still searching for the tail section, which is where the data they need is housed and recorded. Hopefully they can find it soon.
bmiR have now commenced flights to Kristiansund in Norway - didn't realise it was so far north.
Future bmiR routes from Aberdeen may involve more Scandi - their jet fleet suited for thinner business-orientated routes, and they specifically mentioned the oil/gas sector. I would think the likes of Oslo, Alesund, maybe Haugesund could come into their thinking - although you can never rule out the lure of Stavanger!

Flight data recorder found; Super Pumas cleared to return
Today the salvage team managed to retrieve the FDR of the CHC 332L2 from the sea bed, so hopefully the enquiry will move forward apace now. Having stopped off at Lerwick, the Bibby Polaris is en route to the Alwyn.
However, the Helicopter Steering Safety Group have announced that the Super Puma family is cleared to fly again in the UKCS.
Question is how many bears will get on them? Some will, willingly. Others - less so. Others - not at all.
But this announcement, without the the results of an AAIB enquiry, suggests to me that the helicopter was not the cause of this incident. Otherwise why clear the type to fly again so soon?

Upon hearing the AAIB Preliminary report I immediately cleared the aircraft of any fault in my head.
I think it could be down to weather events - maybe a microburst or sudden windshear which has brought aircraft down in the past. Flying relatively close to cliffs as well could produce some unpredictable wind patterns.
Just a theory and by no means am I saying I'm right but if I was a betting man I know where I'd be putting my money.

yesterday at Aberdeen - one of the two hand dyers in the Mens Washroom land-side still u/s after 36 hours
A permanent queue of 20 people waiting to buy a beer airside.......
place absolutely packed airside (and no, there weren't any serious delays or cancellations other than the usual couple of Scatsa flights)
a lot more investment needed here

Well the madness that is Offshore Europe kicks off tomorrow, so are we likely to see any interesting or large movements?
In previous years weve seen the occasional BA 767 on some of the Heathrow rotations and last time round there were rumours (and nothing more than rumours) of a 747SP.
So far all I can see in terms of "exotic" movement is a Transavia 73W daystopping tomorrow and an Arkefly 73W for later in the week. was secretly hoping to see a widebody, since ABZ never seems to get any nowadays (and I cant recall a 767 touching down since the days of Air Scotlwand chartering Air Holland back in Summer 2006).

Don't think there is much happening that's out of the ordinary. I would have expected BA to send up a couple of heavies had it not been for Virgins intrusion on the route so just a couple more A321's at best.
KL have got an extra 737 on Friday, LH the usual 735's, some AF 190's but really bugger all difference from any normal week.
Last proper widebody was in 2010 with a BY 767 to the Caribbean IIRC via BFS. Unless a C17 is counted which pop up every now and again. Pre-dates my interest in aviation but I don't think BA have had a 767 on the LHR run for 10 years at least.

Wow wasn't expecting that one at all! Congrats to ABZ. With Eastern European population ever increasing it does seem like a route that could have a chance.
Imagine it will be 3/4 weekly 737-500?

Long way in a Dash but could be nevertheless. SVG is near enough a comparable airport so it could be a mix of 737/DH4 if their schedule is anything to go by. Being reported on Routes Online as 4 weekly.

Riga had been mentioned as a possible but I never thought we would get the route.
Let's hope it's worth airBaltic's while whatever equipment is used, & that it's not another Baku.

Baku - that destination of choice for the North East of Scotland ..... or is it shall we tap into the money rich oil barons ..... wait a minute there's not that many of them go to Baku after all.
Just because someone flies there doesn't mean anyone wants to go.

Ill stick my neck out and say the service will have gone in 9-12 months. I find it hard to believe Riga specific oil workers and North East stag do's can fill a 737-500 on multiple frequencies year round. Baku lasted ever so slightly than I expected so we might be surprised. ABZ has so many other destinations which would be bound to make better services. Who's making these decisions ?
