Ryanair seemingly presses ahead with attack on Wizz
Ryanair will lodge a complaint at the European Commission against rival carrier Wizz Air, claiming that it violates European ownership rules, said Michael Cawley on Tuesday.

Wizz Air is in breach of the European airline ownership rules [he said].
EU regulation stipulate that the majority owner of carriers operating within the bloc must be European, and Ryanair claims Wizz Air has no such owner.

Aviation is not liberalised worldwide. It is regulated by bilateral intergovernmental agreements where flights may be launched from which cities. In the European Union, though there is the 'open skies’ accord, that allows carriers to have flights anywhere from any city provided they are majority-owned by Europeans.

Ryanair has obtained new information about the ownership structure of Wizz Air, Cawley said.

Wizz Air Holdings is registered in Jersey on the Channel Islands, the two subsidiaries of which are the Hungarian and Ukrainian carriers, Cawley said. The company is owned by a company registered in Malta, which is also owned by a Maltese company that is also owned by a Maltese firm, he added. Overall, you can get to Wizz Air Holdings via four layers of owners, on top of which there is a person called Stuart Blackburn. Ryanair claims he does not represent European owners.

Although the Ryanair chief was asked what they base this claim on, he declined to answer.

Cawley said "Wizz Air is not an airline Hungary needs, on which the Hungarian (presumably Budapest) airport can lean on. It lacks loyalty and sustainability."

He noted that they will lodge a complaint against Wizz Air to the aviation body of the European Commission today.
From the new article published by recently cited portfolio.hu.

It would suggest that the last investor ties between Wizz and Ryan were broken and the playoff is real.

BUD needed capacity to replace Malev. Wizz Air have provided some of that

It lacks loyalty
How many times have Wizz pulled out of Budapest? Zero. How many times has Ryanair pulled out of Budapest? Once

At the very least FR see Wizz as an annoyance, at most a threat to their expansion plans

Could be that or someone in Malev / HU Govt had some papers and access to a fax machine.

Maybe EC should consider issuing a ban for Ryanair not to expand anymore. So many companies went bust because of them, so many people lost their jobs. These guys becoming monopolists. Enough is enough.

Ryanair not a monopoly and airports have a choice as do passengers.

Of course it's airport business, but look around how many bases they have, name me please any other LCC that has such network as RYR does. Ryanair is always doing business unfair. Always trying to weaken other companies by some stupid allegations. I hate them for that. I hope that some day people will open their eyes and other companies will sue O'Leary ( Ryanair) for that.

Today's so called sale by Wizzair is nothing short of disgraceful and something which should be investigated because it's highly misleading at the most mild term.

According to their site all of their "Exclusive Club" members can get 20% off all fares on all routes on all dates for today only. A great offer you may think if you paid the 40 euro for such club.

However from looking at flights yesterday and today, it seems that the Exclusive Club prices are exactly the same as yesterday on every single flight. They have not been reduced. Instead what has happened is they have increased the non club prices by 20% overnight.

And they're STILL charging 10 euro government tax from Irish airports despite the fact it was reduced to 3 euro over a year ago. If this was Ryanair there would be an outcry.

Interesting that Eindhoven is among one of the three airport seeing service from DEB, same goes for BRQ. Seems as if it is a good performer for them!

Eindhoven

Don't forget RIX (Riga), also served by a W turn with a Katowice-based plane. So EIN has Brno, Riga and from december Debrecen with W turns. I know the Eindhoven-Riga route is doing very well

Wizz Air filling the void?

Would'nt suprise me if Wizz Air launched a new Prague service to the Midlands soon, both Birmingham/East Midlands without a service to the Czech Republic from September.

Btw.

Did you notice that Potuguese Daniel de Carvalho has switched from Ryanair to Wizzair recently? Formerly working as Ryanair's European Communications Manager, a couple of months ago he was appointed as the Corporate Communications Manager in the Hungarian low cost carrier.

Although competing, both carriers have much in common, it seems.

Right so someone moving from one company to another is evidence of er nothing.......

Not like people to move from one airline to another like
Willie Walsh, hundreds of pilots etc etc
