Anybody know how the planning is going as regards to the permenant terminal?
I see also that Thomsonfly are starting to replace the B737-500's with B737-300's, are there any issues with using these from Cov's runway?

Newsflash aircraft has go-around!
Airport worker says woman was allowed to carry on unquestioned. Airport say otherwise? Hardly an airport worker blowing the whistle on lax security. Did someone at CVT have a bad day with the management?
Nice to see the fine Coventry Telegraph is upkeeping its excellent reporting standard

As the a close relative of a member of the airside crew on the day (shift) of the event - please be assured that the gentleman driving the truck was dismissed from the business fairly and subseqent representations to the press were as a reacion to the sacking.
A gross error to SOP's on the ground was not tolerated by anyone at CVT.
He's gone.
The issue at Security was confused because the person (a woman) had a anti rape device on her and the ground staff were unsure as to how to handle the compressed gas device.

"Morale in security is so low you could limbo under a sleeping snake's belly"
Methinks someone is trying to make a rent-a-quote, but can't actually be bothered to state their name.
Rather pathetic really, obviously a slow news day.

I see Wizz have brought forward the launch date of the Coventry service, it's now the 13/07
Also, I see Jetstream Executive who are based at Coventry have began scheduled services out of Blackpool under the name of "Jetstream Express". Would they look at scheduled flights out of Coventry although not many routes spring to mind that can be operated by a J31 & isn't served from BHX or EMA. Possibly SOU/BOH, EXT, PLH (although all these are served by frequent trains from Birmingham), maybe MME or even CAX?

Rumours have surfaced periodically about a jetstream operation from Coventry for the last couple of years without any firm details.
Although Southampton and Bournemouth are served by a good train service from the Coventry region, Exeter and Plymouth are not you have to go via the dungeon called Birmingham New Street which is a real pain and time consuming. I'm not sure that a service already on offer from Birmingham or perhaps more pertinently East Midlands automatically rules one out from Coventry.

The inquiry finished some nine months ago but we still await the announcement of the verdict. Could it be that it has been delayed by the local elections in May, the local politicians did not exactly cover themselves in glory on this issue?

The Managing Director of the airport, Chris Orphanou, has stated that he believes a decision has been made.
Couple of theories:
Positive outcome for the terminal: with the environment being high on everybody's agenda, the Government delay the announcement of the application being granted for fear of a backlash from Green groups
Negative outcome for the terminal: following massive job losses in the area (Peugeot, Jaguar and their associated companies) the Government delay the announcemnet of the application being rejected for fear of a backlash from Joe Public who is struggling to find work (particularly since the Government seems incapable at keeping industry in the UK), for whom the airport could have provided some jobs.
Either way, don't expect an announcement before end of June at the very earliest...at least this might give the politicians time to try and wriggle out of the propaganda that they try and con the tax payers with

Why the end of June? If you want to bury announcements from the national media do it when Tony Blair steps down they will be far to busy then. Its going to be big in the local media whenever it is announced.

Coventry - Katowice flights (along with other routes) are now on sale until 13 December.
Flights shall again be operating three times per week.
Hopefully this is a good sign that they do actually mean that flights were selling well, upon the announcement of bringing forwrad the CVT-KTW start date.
I would have thought that had the flights been selling poorly, then the route would have been axed at the end of October.
Hopefully, as was the case at Doncaster Sheffield, WizzAir might announce one or two new routes for next Summer?

G-THOC and G-THOD are still in service.
So it shall be 2 737-500s, and 2 737-300s.
G-THOO (the wingletted -300) has been in Coventry for a while, not sure if it will be based there for Summer, or whether Coventry will be getting one of the older TOM -300s

Why would they need controlled airspace? It's class "G" and see and avoid. They saw, they avoided, where is the problem? Thomsonfly knew the rules when they made their risk assessment before they started flying there did they not? So, if it was not a problem then why should it be now? One of the bigger flying organisations did ask for a meeting with the Thomsonfly Chief pilot to explain fully the situation at the start of their operations, but for what ever reason this did not happen. The approach to 23 cuts straight across a busy VFR route between EMA and BHX so look left, look right and look left again before crossing and carry enough fuel for a couple of approaches. If you try to fly a 737 through a busy bit of sky like this you should not expect to go straight in every time and to think otherwise would be foolish. Not all light aircraft have radios. Remember the radar controller is supposed to keep the 737 at least 5nm from any unidentified traffic and if it got closer than that someone in the radar room is not sticking to the rules unless the crew went "visual" in which case it is their choice and they have to provide their own separation ! May sound harsh but that is the way it is.

I agree with badbear - there's enough CAS around there without any more.
If airlines want CAS these days they should operate from airports where it's already established. Thomsonfly chose Coventry, in doing so they chose what goes with it - class 'G'. It's not a big enough operation to warrant class 'D' and never will be.
