N114AT is a Coventry - based aircraft, it's been residing in Coventry Aeroplane Club's hangar.

I was only asking!!
Seems there is a small renaissance occurring at CVT. Those will have the buyers flocking in.
Looking at BHX winter programme, you could be in with a shout at over hauling the scheduled movements...

I hear that some of the CVT SW3/4 freighters have been 'displaced' to SEN due to CVT's restricted night hours now. Is that correct?

LOL......I've been at BHX that long, I think AWA were still knocking up Lancasters at CVT when I started...

I think we have some extra freighters at BHX during the night that are ex-CVT..

I think you may well have. I was surprised to see at Atlantic Airlines ATP parked at BHX all day the other week - here.

I guess it could have gone in to BHX if it were ferrying urgent freight which needed to be at BHX - and I know first hand that a large manufacturer not a million miles from BHX has had a lot of urgent charters of late to keep lines running!

It was in twice last week on ad-hoc charters from KTW, nothing to do with Fedex, the ACL ATR on that route as normal.

Think probably something in the region of 150 ad-hoc freighters into BHX over the last month, seems to have been anything from Twin Otters to AN12's with everything inbetween.

The strange thing though is most have been during CVT operating hours, not just when they're closed.

The reason BHX has had much (but not quite all) of the freight traffic is that Jaguar/ Land Rover have changed their logistics company. The new company prefers to use BHX.

Ah! I've decoded your last post 0523 cov man.

"The ATP at BHX was for FedEx."

A bit easier to read like that I think. (takes cover behind sofa)

Leofric,

Very little of the freight has been destined for Land Rover, the majority has been for Vauxhall at Ellesmere Port, also cargo for BMW at Cowley, and even Nissan Sunderland!

Think that it may be a sign that the brokers(not just one by the way), have lost confidence in the future of Coventry and happy to find an alternative not far away.
Let's be honest until recently nobody would have touched BHX for ad-hoc freight, either operators or brokers with a 10 foot long barge-pole.

Another reason could be that freight operators were fed up of being put to the back of the queue when the passenger operations were on after previously being the bedrock of the airport.

Leofric, JLR's logistics partner changed 18 months ago - hasn't changed lately; and until the future of the two West Midlands plants is decided I can't see it changing again.

JennyB, I can't comment on how much of the increased freight at BHX was definitely for JLR, but I do know first hand that there has been an increased number of ad-hoc charters for JLR (where they landed or even if they were road based I can't be sure); because a lot of JLRs suppliers have had technical and capacity problems in keeping up with production of the new 2010 models (which are very nice btw!). So I would expect some of that freight to be heading to JLR for sure.

Can't say too much more unfortunately.

Heli Craig,

Not saying that there hasn't been any freight for JLR into BHX, in fact quite a large amount, but has been small in comparison to the freight destined for Vauxhall.

Think they have had major production problems for the launch of the new Astra hence the amount of charters into BHX,EMA and LPL, though not many to CVT.

See some posts have mysteriously disappeared without comment again....Bad manners really!!
Anyway......... JennyB is right that a large chunk of the freight of late has been for Vauxhall.
What large freighters do they still have at CVT at the moment?

There was a night airline charter flight trying to op to CVT due BHX closed, but the fire category is not high enough so it's going elsewhere! I guess pax charters will be very rare witrh current fire category.

This is called the aviation industry......It's a pity you can't read the posts properly. I made it quite clear that I hoped CVT could salvage something as it's my home airport, but, realistically they are in a deep hole....Whereas BHX will still be up and running strongly when aviation pulls through the other side. They will survive the comings and goings, have a year of low (If any Profits) then carry on regardless from an even sounder economic base.
If it's so great at CVT why are you always asking if there are any jobs at BHX? If CVT were the better airport I'd be banging on the doors until I got something...Alas, it's not so... I think I'll ride it out at BHX thanks...
