A 'new airline' is just about the last thing Coventry needs - start-up airlines an absalute nightmare.
They need a recognised, profitable, branded airline with routes that are not competing in any way with BHX or for that matter East Mids. That's quite a tall order.
With airlines as risk averse as they've ever been, who would take a punt on this front today? All the regionals are going for the safest options on proven routes at established airports where they are not being kicked in the teeth by Ryanair or others with similar philosophy.

CVT must surely make more from parking that BHX
Think you've been sniffing correcting fluid me old fruity!!

Since the departure of Thomson, I have not held very high hopes of such a prospect materialising, but optimism, whether enhanced by any kind of poison or not, is still free!
let me assure you that the latest owner is NOT interested in the airport as an airport.
I for one would not be supporting any kind of Plymouth type "viable" campaign, given that the airport has had every opportunity since the Airports Act to make itself viable.
As I said above, to any of the locals who danced a merry jig when Thomsonfly left, there is no reason to expect that a redeveloped airport site wouldn't be turned in to a host for some form of dirty / smelly / antisocial activity, especially as we already know there are materials underneath, although I have not seen any reports of their actual value.
a new airline starting at cov later this year ?????
We certainly don't need another new "express" type airline.
The only scenario I can see working is an established loco player being offered very sweet terms to jump in, but not so sweet that the airport makes zero and they swan off after 2-3 years.
Back to the car parks - given that they are already in place, given that those at BHX are much more substantial structures, why could the airport not make money from them, when assessed as their own entity, separate from aviation revenue, which I understand is a challenge?

Re Car Parks - already making money without any passenger flights judging by the number of lorry trailers and coaches parked on them.

More than you'd make from parking for passengers using the terminal!

There was a good turn out to watch the fly past of XH558 today. This brought an unexpected bonus to the Midlands Air Museum in Rowley Road. They had a bumper day for visitors.
I must admit that although I have lived only ten minutes drive away for over fifty years, I had never visited this museum. The kerbside appeal gave me the impression that it is a few sad old aircraft in a field, but it so much more than that. Of course I ended up spending too much money in the shop, but that is no-one's fault but my own. It is a great deal bigger and more interesting that I thought it would be. Further developments are planned apparently.

Can't see any positive impacts on the commercial side of the airport though. If anything, land currently used for parking now has a development value.
Talk of 14k jobs, obviously that creates business and leisure demand, but I suspect that will largely be handled by BHX.

What is the latest here? All gone very quiet.
I see freight wise there is just an ATP + Shed at night. Is it really worth opening up so late for 2 flights?
General Aviation < Biz > has probably picked up slightly. But with this and the freight they are not going to pay the bills.....................

Aeros, Almat and Atlantic Flight Training are all very active on frequency at EGBE.. plus GA flights, the helimed is always buzzing in and out of there and visits from other FTOs I'd say Cov is doing well.
AirBase is leaving for Southern shores, I think the DC6 diner is also doing well.
It was packed last weekend.

Looking to the future
With the DC6 diner doing so well it will survive and have plenty of new customers when CVT becomes a housing estate to supply workers for all the expansion planned around the former aerodrome.
