The 95 seats are probably at 31ins pitch. I don't think it is any worse in cross-section than a 737 so compared to say Ryanair it would more roomy as they are I think at only 28/29 ins seat pitch.

EI-RJF

Anyone got any ideas how the tug ended up pointing the same direction as EIRJF after the pushback collision in DUB on 02 MAR 09?
Seemed so bizarre...........

EI-RJF at NORWICH

Noted this evening that Avro RJ-85 EI-RJF is in the storage area at Norwich Airport. Can anybody shed any light please? Is it being stood down?

The rumor is that EI-RJF will be put in storage, stripped down and used for spare parts.

Hi all,

Seeing as there has been so much discussion about Cityflyer, I thought it'd be a good idea to take a look at WX also. How are things going at the airline? Have the LCY services picked up again in line with the increasing trades / profits we're seeing in the City? Also, how's the integration of VLM going?

Regards,

P2C

Was just thinking the same thing the other day?
I did end up flying with them a few weeks ago and it was great.
Read on another thread they were doing the AZ Linate run too.

For what it's worth I had not been through LCY in years and it is fab.
Zipped through as a connector. No hassle at all bar catching my bag in a door a breaking of a wheel.

From what I have read and heard from friends Cityjet loads on certain routes are now at their highest for 2009.

Also seen some of the VLM F50s in new Cityjet skin, and understand the whole VG fleet will be repainted in due course. The first F50 repainted was named "Spirit of VLM" which is a nice touch.

Major remodelling is about to start in LCY terminal building - Central Search to be expanded and relocated, and Departure Lounge yet again extended.

I think on number of destinations and number of flights Cityjet are the biggest airline at LCY arent they? ?

And during September, it felt every street in London I walked down either had a Cityjet billboard ad, a branded Cityjet taxi, or Cityjet ads in the papers.

There .com website is loads better than it used to be as well.

'twas myself who wrote about them having taken over the London City to Milan Linate operation (don't know from what date), was on it earlier this week. We noticed that, by their speech, the crew up front were presumably CityJet from LCY, but the cabin crew seemed Italian, although with CityJet uniforms. Have they opened a cabin crew base at Linate ?

Aircraft in one direction had small add-on safety placard stickers at each seat with the "life vest under" details etc repeated in Italian, and the AirOne logo on them.

It was one of those operations where you just wonder how many airlines does it take to run a service. Aircraft in CityJet livery, mags in the seats were Air France, flight announced equally as AirOne and Alitalia, passing mentions of KLM as well. Does make me wonder whose insurance, from which country, you are on .......

Catering was standard CityJet, which is a bit disappointing for a longer run, small pack of biscuits, small pack of cocktail munchies, and a drink. Loads were unfortunately not great.

Well that's some promising news on the WX front at least, nice to see someone doing well for a change. I'm a little confused by the Linate references though. What aircraft operated the route? Was it an Avro RJ? Seems a little unusual to have so many mixed references to CityJet, Air One, AF and KLM.

Is there a longer term plan to integrate VLM into the company i.e. for the VLM AOC to disappear and be integrated into the WX AOC?

Finally on another musing....how old are the ex VLM F50's? I imagine they're getting old enough now and would have thought there would be a fleet replacement evaluation underway??

VLM's F50's are around 18 years old, with 2 of them already having been returned to the leasing company. Shame to see the VLM brand go in favour of CityJet.

There have also been a great number of ground staff leave LCY since Menzies departed LCY.

I'm not familiar with the situation on the ground in LCY. Did Menzies leave or were they pushed?

The F50 fleet is alot older than I thought. Just did some digging on airfleets.net and it turns out they also have some of the original DLT F50's. ATR and Bombardier must sense a sales opportunity on the horizon here.

Menzies left of their own accord. Scot Airways went over to CityJet and then Eastern pulled out leaving Menzies with VLM only. They announced in Nov 08 that it was no longer viable to remain at LCY and the staff were transferred on Mar 1st 09 to a recruitment agency working under CityJet.

The LCY-Milan Linate route is now operated by a CityJet aircraft. For some years, since Air One started it, it has been done by an RJ70 leased from the Swedish carrier Transwede and painted in Air One livery, but still Swedish-registered. This has now gone back and a normal CityJet RJ85 operates the route, under joint Air One/Alitalia flight numbers.

The timetable is still that of a Milan-based aircraft operating two trips morning and evening to LCY (which is what makes commercial sense as well), so the CityJet aircraft overnights there, and has a long midday stopover there as well.

Air One have effectively bought Alitalia after some complex financial negotiations so are now in the Skyteam club. Air France/KLM have a minority shareholding in the new merged company.

The 'VLM' service from MAN-ANR is now an Air France only code, but with Flemish staff, same excellent service and catering, but rather surprisingly, 'The Economist' as the in-flight magazine. No announcements in French. Manchester-Rotterdam, ten minutes earlier, carried a VG code. Unscientific survey at Antwerp seems that about half the fleet are painted in Cityjet colours.

As I am sat in the LCY depature lounge at the moment, OVERBOOKED on CityJet to Edinburgh, waiting for the next one and with my day in Scotland squandered, I guess that loads have picked up somewhat. This for a fare of £314 day return to Edinburgh, by the way !

Would never have happened on the route in Merlyn's day.

VLM Flight Codes

Is there a reason why the LCY-Netherlands services to RTM and AMS are still on the VG flightcode? Dare they not use an AF code in KLM territory?

I know the AMS is a KLM codeshare but the "real" flight number going by the callsign remains the VLM one.
