Waterford Aerodrome will continue ops for the foreseeable future, if a carrier is not found by next april it seems the runway will be put out of service, but Helicopter operations and hangers will still be available.

Curious to known why you believe the runway will be "put out of service" in April next year. No reason for this to happen. The airport gets a good few exe jets in and has a very active flying club.

I don't know too much about Waterford, but would it at all be feasible to have easyjet operating an A319 to luton? Fares would be much better than anything VLM could ever dream of offering

4700ft runway is definitely do-able with an A319, but I don't know about facilities on the ground

Very sorry and I don't meant to be rude but what a load of bull.. Do yourself and all of us a favour and stop posting pure sh**e on here (and that other forum you post on - if in fact you are who we believe you to be) regarding WAT and other aspects in regards to aviation.

CHC have a contract to fulfil, they require full fire service and airport operations to be able to use the airport. Take a look at Sligo for example, have they closed down due to not having a carrier? No.. Yes, don't get me wrong that have downscaled a lot of their operations but they are still running and will continue to do so for the coming years.

Sligo is purely operational as a helicopter base and will never see revenue service again. Even if an airline wanted to put a service in.

Maybe the truth is too difficult for you, I don't know. Don't attack me for it thanks.

Aer Ryan

There is a good level of private traffic to/from the airport. The runway will not be taken out of service next April if there is no carrier.

You really need to start checking your facts, Sligo has an active GA base, regularly used by the Air Corps PC9s, in the last few weeks has seen regular business traffic (Citations, PC12s, Islanders)...

In the case of both Sligo and Waterford, for performance reasons the S92 arrives and departs on the active runway and its rare to operate straight to the pad.

Hi AerRyan, people are not picking on you but you are making statements that you do not seem to be able to support with fact.

Where did you get the idea that Waterford would close the runway in April ?

Sligo is still there, have a look at their faceb**k page. When it comes to scheduled services never say never when it comes to regional airports they are masters on survival.

Hi,
I wonder would Scandinavian out fit "Sun Air" be an option for the LTN rotation?
The have Dornier jetd and also I see they have jet streams. The opperate under a BA franchise with BA tails so the ticketing side of things is already in Place?
Just a thought...

EJ - SunAir do not exactly follow a LCC business model; their fares are seriously expensive. Would enough passengers at Waterford pay premium fares in the knowledge that Dublin is not that far away ?

Obliviously not, considering VLM left.

Runway extension+ Ryanair or maybe another 6-12 month stint with a small airline are the only options.

There is no options for Waterford at the moment till at least next march. I would hazard a guess that the there will be cuts in the staff at the airport if there is no service.

VLM Airlines files for bankruptcy - Luchtzak Aviation

I hope they paid Waterford all fees due already. Might have done since they pulled out a while ago already. #silverlining

Does this mean WAT-LTN is cancelled?

Surely with your fantastic insight regarding the airports future you would have known this already. Closing the runway next April eh?

Do us all a favour, please...

Ah lads that was a joke!

Considering my birth place is Dungarvan, I do have an interest in the airport! I would love to see it succeed, but with the short runway and the near death the place seems to be almost suffering all the time, its time for it to either stay or go.

And yes the April thing was what I've heard, I've a childhood friend who is part of the Waterford Chamber of Commerce and that's the last they heard.

Less of the defensiveness, its obscene to suggest WAT is or will ever do well, just as SNN seems to struggle to find a break.

Hopefully WAT dies off, followed by KIR and CFN.

You just completely contradicted yourself in that post.

All I can say is watch this space, plenty of work being done over past few weeks as far as I know. Hopefully some interesting/good news is to come in the future.
