If the speculation of daily WAT-BHX on the Flybe thread is correct its going to be a fantastic boost for WAT! Hopefully a sign of more good things to come if they are willing to go after the market from WAT that strongly.

Have heard that Lorient will not operate for summer 2012. Anyone confirm RE are due to announce a new service if word is to be believed. It didn't do great this summer if LF are to go by.

Post from another site:

All Aer Arann flights will be branded and sold as EI Regional by the start of the Summer season and all current RE flights changing to 4 digit EI flight numbers.

The 1st of the ATR42's is currently getting painted with Eirtech in Shannon and getting the interior ripped out (hopefully burned), new seats and vibration padding, once the 42's are completed, The remaining ATR72's REH & REI then follow for respray both also getting additional refurbishment and new leather seats.

Yep read this elsewhere today too! Crew we're talking about refit when I flew on EI-CBK and yes it was pretty dire! Shame for the RE brand to go but their best chance of survival, they will sell many more seats that way Im sure. Wonder will the 42's get the leather seating as well as the 72's?

Aer Arann to increase flights from Waterford for summer 2012.

From May
Manchester will be 6 weekly (4 weekly in 2011)
London Luton will be daily (4 weekly in 2011)
London Southend will be 13 weekly

Lorient has yet to be confirmed.

Wonder if the daily Luton flights will carry more passengers than the double daily Southend flights or carry a price premium?

The new terminal and railway station is fully operational this time around LTNman, better awareness of SEN from both Waterford & UK pax plus there are some possible connections to be made to Barcelona and the Costas. I'd expect to see traffic up - Summer 12 is the big test

With DUB only about 90 mins from WAT and then ORK is about the same, I see no connections to be made from SEN.

Southend was meant to have replaced Luton as the London terminal. Now it has become messy with three flights a day to two London airports, which are both north of the Thames.

No doubt if Luton had remained the sole London airport for Waterford there would be no more than two flights a day to London but now there is three so is there enough passengers to support both routes?

Great news about the extra LTN flights this summer, though probably still too much to ask for the late night LTN-WAT flight to come back.

DUB from my experience is still 1hr 45min from waterford city centre travelling at the speed limit+40 euro fuel + tolls + parking if applicable. Think people are always too quick to downplay the convenience of WAT when everything is factored in.

Have you looked at the CAA provisional stats for January 2012? These show that there was an increase of 46% in the total number of pax using the WAT-LON route compared to January last year, when LTN was the only destination served. Whether this is due to SEN generating additional traffic or for other reasons is open to speculation, but I would suggest things are moving in the right direction.

I would say the schedule is spot on now. If you are leisure passenger heading for north London you have a choice of any day in the week, if you want day return for business in London you use SEN. Would it be fair to assume we wil see no GLY flights this year from RE?

Of course that depends on your perspective. Unless you happen to live in Stratford or work in the City, from most other parts of London it is still hard work to get to SEN, wothout even mentioning the journey times when theres engineering work on the rail line to SEN etc. No doubt SEN has a bright future on bucket and spade/european routes, but for the Irish market I remain to be convinced.

Regarding the stats, what was the full schedule on WAT-LTN last winter? Diden't some BHX flights make way for the current enhanced LTN schedule in winter 11/12. Probably made commercial sense for RE as I'm sure it must usually be easier to fill a aircraft to the LON region rather than BHX.

P13 has the WAT-LON stats for anybody interested.

Whatever way the routes are cut, the main thing is it's great to see WAT have a solid schedule of traffic this summer between flybe and Arann.

Well by that tack stn is also of no use to the irish market as its liverpool st terminus. Catching train to Ltn involves a bus connection so how easy is that?

It can be a pain in the arse but you can also catch non stop trains from St Pancras which takes only 22 minutes to get to Luton's station.

Yes Southend is easy to get to by train from London but for car users the place is a nightmare. Think it is around 20 miles from any motorway.

Yes, it's about 20 miles from the SEN terminal car park to J29 on the M25. Normal journey time is about 25 minutes, although in the rush hours it could be considerably more. Still, if you can get to your car within 15 minutes of the aircraft being on-stand you can be on the M25 within 45 minutes in total.

Out of interest, what would be an average 'aircraft on-stand to M1' journey time from LTN, assuming you have parked in the longstay car park?
